As we reach the end of the Spring term and prepare for the Easter break, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible progress our school
community has made This has been a milestone term, and there is much to be proud of.
The most significant news is, of course, our long-awaited return to the fully refurbished New Building After two and a half years of construction, scaffolding, and temporary arrangements, we are finally "home " Stepping into these modern, vibrant spaces is bringing a renewed energy to the school I want to sincerely thank you for your patience regarding the recent closure days required to facilitate this move We know the "short-term pain" of childcare disruptions is never easy, but seeing the students flourish in their new environment will be incredible .
Beyond the bricks and mortar, this term has seen the successful implementation of new school systems These changes were designed to strengthen both our pastoral care and academic rigour, and the impact has been immediate We are seeing calmer transitions, more focused classrooms, and a stronger sense of wellbeing across all year groups.
Our vision remains unwavering: to deliver an outstanding education for our students, both inside and outside the classroom Whether through innovative lessons or the diverse range of extracurricular clubs, trips and activities, we are committed to providing a holistic experience that prepares our young people for their future, whether that is education, employment or training
However, a building is only as good as the people within it. As we settle into our new surroundings, we continue to work hard on ensuring every member of our community consistently reflects our core values: Aspiration, Respect, and Endeavour While the vast majority of our community model these daily, we remain challenged to ensure that "The Roding Way" is upheld by everyone, at all times

The last couple of weeks were actionpacked forYear 7 sport, with the girls’ teams leading the charge. On Monday, the girls' football team delivered a fantastic performance in a friendly against Chigwell School The standout moment was undoubtedly Embla G-P’s superb volley, perfectly set up by a cross from Sophie K.
OurYear 7 boys’handball team also stepped up to the challenge, traveling to Greatfields for a U13 tournament Despite facing olderYear 8 students from across South Essex, the boys showed great spirit and a clear drive to improve with every match
The momentum continued intoTuesday with the Year 7 Girls’Rugby and the local WESSANetball Rally. Both teams showed incredible grit and determination, but most importantly, they played with a smile Aspecial mention goes to Amelia C, who showed incredible commitment by representing the school in all three events!
TIme is ticking down with ourYear 7 attendance raffle being drawn on the first week back after Easter. Remember, every 100% week in school is an entry into the draw So far their are 801 entries into the raffle with big prizes to be won including Nandos and Kaspas!

As we come to the end of this half term, I would like to begin by saying a huge thank you to all of ourYear 9 students for their engagement and enthusiasm It has certainly been a busy and important half term, with so much taking place from choosing options, attending the Options Evening, participating in taster lessons, to many other activities along the way Throughout it all,Year 9 have risen to the challenge and powered through as always.

The PPEs are completed and for some students the actual GCSEs have already started I hope the GCSE Drama exam went well During the PPEs I have been, on the whole, pleased with the way the students conducted themselves As always, behaviour in exams must be exemplary as every child has the right to a calm, peaceful exam process We will share the final GCSE exam timetable with you after Easter

l would like to draw your attention to the Brook Library Asixth form study space which is overseen by Mrs Parton, our study supervisor It is a quiet space with revision resources, a computer suite and chromebooks which students can use It is used by sixth formers after school and we invite your child to join this mature and proactive working environment to support them with their revision in the coming weeks and months It will be open to year 11 until they go on study leave in May, every Monday -Thursday We look forward to welcoming them into this space and supporting them with their GCSEs in the coming weeks and months
After Easter we will be allowing the year group to go off site for lunch as we did last term I do need to point out that this is subject to positive behaviour and attendance and punctuality, as these are the foci for this term
As always our uniform expectations are incredibly high. We will expect these standards to be maintained throughout the rest of the year. Students are expected to be in the correct shoes and wear their blazers. Should you require any assistance with this, please make your child’s form tutor aware and we will help any way we can

The Epping ForestYouth council elections were held on Friday 13 March. Students from every year group had the chance to cast their vote for two candidates to represent the school in the local council. This event followed a week of assemblies where students were able to find out a bit about the work of the youth council and how it has an impact on their lives.
The Epping ForestYouth Council (EFYC) acts as a voice for young people aged 11-17 across the Epping Forest District. Its primary role is to ensure that the concerns, opinions, and needs of the district's youth are heard and considered by the local council and other decision-making bodies.They work on various campaigns, consult with peers, run events, and aim to influence local policy to make a positive impact on the lives of young people in their area, focusing on issues like mental health, safety, and community facilities.
The results of the elections will be announced next week.
RVHSART
The RVHSArt department would like to present a few Year 11 Samples from component 1 of the GCSE, we wish to highlight the high quality work they have produced.
Andrea Erhardt - Has produced both a tonal self-portrait in pencil and a monochromatic painting using acrylic paint with an emphasis on texture.
Logan Burger - has explored portraits through paper engineering. She has layered paper in a skilful way to produce a convincing likeness.
Charlotte Williamson - has produced a development piece using the style of the street artist Shephard Fairey. Her aim was to combine two images together.
James Millar - created both a transcription and pastiche in response to the street artist Richard Day. His aim was to balance both the representational and the abstract in this piece.

History Has Its Eyes on Roding Valley: An Afternoon at Hamilton
This term, a group of our dedicated Year 10 and Sixth Form English Literature students swapped the classroom for the glitz and glamour of London’s West End for a very special reward trip to see the multi-award-winning musical, Hamilton
Celebrating Excellence
The students in attendance were hand-picked by the English Department, nominated by their teachers in recognition of their exceptional hard work, resilience, and consistently positive attitudes throughout the academic year It was a pleasure to see such a deserving group represent Roding Valley High School in the heart of the Victoria Palace Theatre.
A Hero's Return: Jay Perry as Aaron Burr
While the show itself is a global phenomenon, the highlight of the night was deeply personal to our school community. We were incredibly proud to watch Roding Valley alumni Jay Perry take center stage in the powerhouse role of Aaron Burr.
Seeing Jay command the stage was more than just great entertainment; it was a profound "full circle" moment for our students His journey from our hallways to the West End spotlight serves as a living testament to what can be achieved through unwavering hard work and the courage to chase "big dreams "
Behind the Scenes Magic
The excitement didn't end with the final curtain call Following the performance, our group was granted an exclusive "post-show" experience We were lucky enough to have members of the cast and crew return to the stage to pull back the curtain on the production
From the technical precision of the revolving stage to the secrets of the lighting and choreography, students were given a rare glimpse into the "behind-the-scenes magic" that makes a world-class production possible. It was an invaluable insight into the creative industries and a perfect end to an unforgettable evening

Trips & Visits
Students are invited to join Cooking Club every Tuesday after school, from 3:05 to 4:05. All ingredients are provided. We cook a range of savoury dishes and occasional sweet treats. This week we made hot cross scones, which were delicious! See the recipe below
Hot Cross Scones
You will need...
85g butter
230g self raising flour
50g brown sugar
140g dried fruit
1/2 tsp mixed spice
1 egg
50ml milk
50g plain flour
1-2 tbls water
1 Preheat oven to 200 degrees and line a small baking tray with baking paper.
2 Sift the self raising flour in to a mixing bowl. Rub the butter in to the flour using your fingertips. Add the brown sugar, dried fruit and mixed spice and stir to combine.
3 In a small bowl combine the egg and milk and mix to combine. Add to the flour mixture and mix until it just comes together to make a dough.
4.Lightly dust your bench with flour and roll out the dough to be around 3cm thick. Cut rounds of the dough using a 6cm round cutter.
5.Bring the trimmings together and cut out more. Place the scones on to the prepared tray.
6.To make the crosses, combine the plain flour and water until combined. Knead to make a smooth dough.
7 Roll out and cut in to thin 6cm strips. Make a cross with the dough on top of each scone.
8 Brush the tops of the scones with milk and bake for 15 mins or until golden.
Year 5 pupils from White Bridge Primary School joined Year 7 Messy Science Club to design and build custom parachutes to protect a raw egg! They tested their aerodynamic creations by dropping them from a secondfloor window to see whose egg could safely glide to the ground without cracking.This hands-on activity was a thrilling way to explore physics concepts like air resistance, gravity, and impact force.
Year 5 pupils from Whitebridge Primary School explored density and polarity by layering oil and water, then adding effervescent tablets, to create mesmerising lava lamps. They then put their engineering skills to the test by using only dry spaghetti and marshmallows to construct the tallest tower possible. This hands-on challenge introduced key structural concepts like compression and tension, teaching pupils how triangles and wide bases can prevent their delicate skyscrapers from toppling over
This week at MedSoc, we took samples from around the school to grow in Petri dishes - this will give us an idea of the presence of bacteria at different locations!
Last week, we were delighted to invite former pupil,Tolani, back to RVHS to give a talk to our prospective university applicants on the demanding yet rewarding reality of life as a medical student.
She balanced stories of her clinical experiences with practical advice on navigating the rigorous workload - hoping to inspire the next generation of aspiring doctors! Tolani also gave guidance on how to manage the application process, with tips on revising for the UCAT, finding work experience, and preparing for interviews.
Ahuge congratulations to Yusuf Hussain 9Pl for his fantastic achievement in the Junior Mathematical Olympiad! Yusuf was awarded a Bronze medal and is amongst the top 200 out of approximately 1300 of the best mathematicians in year 7 and 8 across the country To be considered for entry into the Olympiad, you have to be in the top 1% in the Junior Maths Challenge. Yusuf has now qualified for the Cayley Maths Olympiad for Year 9 students and we are expecting great results!!

EduLink can be accessed on any device – PC, laptop, tablet or mobile device – via the web browser or via the EduLink app. The link to access the EduLink login page on a web browser is www edulinkone com
Alternatively, you can download the EduLink App which is available to download for free on Apple or on Android.
Both the App and the web browser will display this log-in screen
The School ID is ‘Roding’ .
Parents/Carers will need to enter the Username and Password they have been provided with and click ‘Log in’
The displayed is dependant of the platform you are logged in to:

• Via the EduLink App
How to Log on to Google Classroom?
Classroom
Students can log into their Gmail using their school email address and their password Their school email will be the year they started at RVHS started plus their first initial and surname @rodingvalley.net (example- 19plarkin@rodingvalley.net).
Once yourchild has have logged in, they will need to click on the google apps button and then select ‘Google Classroom’
Your child will then be able to see all of the classes they belong to. They will then need to click on the class they want to use resources for and take a look at everything that their class teacher has posted for them to work on. They will be able to download items and make comments on them Teachers will be regularly posting new work on their Google Classrooms
What to Do if your child is a Missing a Subject their Google Classroom?
If your childis missing a Google Classroom for one of their subjects, they will need to click on the addition symbol, followed by ‘Join Class’ and then enter the Class Code for their missing subject Class Codes are available from their subject teacher
Top Tips for Our Students
Students must keep up to date with their lessons by using Google Classroom every day
Use their workbooks to complete the work shown on their Google Classroom
Don’t slack on presentation! Keep their notes in order of the lessons on the Google Classroom
Year 11and 13 Students: There will be revision materials available on Google Classroom. Please use them.
