Mr Cocker History read of the week.
I thought I would start with a book linked both to the GCSE and our Year 9
Scheme of work. It is a book about a
girl, death and the rise of the Nazis. It’s called
‘The
Book
Thief’
by
Marcus
Zusak. It is a touching and beautifully
told story narrated by ‘Death’ of a girl who feels isolated, finding an escape
through the books she has stolen from a huge mansion house. It is set in
Germany during the rise of the Nazis
and as world events play out our main character’s life is changed forever. The first few pages of the book are available free on Google Books and I am sure you can find a free copy online
somewhere to download to Kindle.

Ms Wheaton PODCAST TIME!
Listen to a podcast called “You’re Dead to me”! This isn’t as morbid as it sounds, it is all about important events / people from history. The presenter is one of the main actors from Horrible Histories and every week they tackle a new topic with a comedian, which helps to keep it light hearted. You could listen to the topics which interest you. Here are some examples:
