ABOUT ME
Hello! My name is Kristian Williams, I am a third-year interior design student at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. My passion for design stems from my childhood, beginning with constantly rearranging furniture in my living room, my brother’s room, and my own to explore how space, layout, and atmosphere can shape experience.
Throughout my education, I have developed a strong interest in creating intentional, human-centered spaces that support well-being and daily life. I approach each project with curiosity and care, grounding my design decisions in concept, functionality, and user experience. I am proud of the progress I have made and continue to seek opportunities that challenge me to grow as a designer and create meaningful interior environments.

project brief
The NEXT design challenge presented by Steelcase was creating a law firm office in Los Angeles, my goal is to create a workplace that fosters meaningful, human connections between the firm and its clients. As the legal profession continues to evolve through economic uncertainty, digital advancement, and hybrid work, law firms must move beyond symbols of prestige and toward spaces built for long-term legacy. My design approach focuses on resilience, inclusivity, and adaptability, supporting multiple modes of work while prioritizing collaboration and well-being. Inspired by the balance scale, the office embodies equality, justice, and balanced workflow. Weighted forms come together in a unified, symmetrical composition, reflecting how the NEXT brand merges structure with empathy, tradition with innovation, and people with purpose, using balance as both a symbol and a guiding design principle.
NEXT believes space can shape culture Their new LA office is designed to create a sense of belonging encouraging connection, creativity, and well-being. Guided by human-centered design and the future of work, the workplace blends technology, inclusivity, and adaptable spaces to evolve with its people. AI-enhanced tools, natural materials, and soft, rounded forms promote comfort and calm. The design reflects the firm’s vision of balancing logic and empathy, tradition and innovation, and privacy and collaboration. More than an office, it represents a shift toward a more fair, human, and welcoming future in the legal profession.

project brief
Our client is Makena Ninete, owner and founder of Ruby June and a former UNL Interior Design alum.
She will provide an overview of her company, rooted in sustainable fashion, nostalgia, and craft, along with the programmatic and spatial needs for Ruby June’s first brickand-mortar retail location. The space is intended to serve as a physical extension of the brand, welcoming community and creativity while embodying the values and identity of Ruby June and remaining flexible to support future growth and expanded programming.

Ruby June is a retail space centered on sustainable fabric and the idea of giving materials a second life. The store brings together new and reclaimed textiles, showing how they can exist side by side rather than being wasted. More than a shop, it’s a place for community, connection, and shared conversations about sustainability. The design features a curved floor plan that creates smooth circulation and guides visitors naturally through the space. A mix of rich textures from worn fabrics to soft new textiles highlights the value and story in every material. Overall, the space is meant to feel welcoming, creative, and inspiring.
This image inspires my store by showing how everyday and recycled objects can become something creative and beautiful. It’s about proving that sustainability can shape the look and feel of the space while also sharing a deeper message about reuse.
This image is based on the idea of choice and nudge architecture, by making the option visible and easy, customers are nudged to reuse instead of taking something new, turning a simple action into part of the store’s sustainable culture.

This image highlights the idea of repair and reuse, showing that materials and objects can have a second life instead of being thrown away. The image captures that spirit of creativity, care, and sustainability that I want the store to reflect.

The Testaccio district in Rome has been a centralized area for transformations and reworking/ re-purposing. The demographics of Testaccio took a large turn due to the industrial workplace shutting down and being abandoned. Testaccio was home to families tied to the Mattatoio slaughterhouse. Now gentrified, it attracts artists, professionals, and students drawn by international residents lured by its affordability and culture.
I used aperture to frame and enhance the sensory experience of the space. Large skylights bring in shifting natural light, creating soft shadows and a calming atmosphere that supports relaxation. The wide corridor offers framed views that emphasize balance and guide attention toward key elements like the pools and seating areas. A soothing material palette of marble, light wood, and muted stone adds warmth, cleanliness, and tactile comfort Subtle contrasts between cool flooring and warmer surfaces also help direct circulation. Together, these choices create a serene environment rooted in wellness and restorative retreat.

gesture drawing

project brief
Gesture drawings are quick, loose sketches used to capture the essence and movement of a figures pose. These drawings typically range from 30 seconds to 15 minutes and prioritize energy, flow, and overall form rather than detail. The focus is on working quickly, making confident marks, and getting the entire figure onto the page to reflect the model’s movement in space. This project begins with gesture drawing as the foundation for all figure studies, since even longer poses always start with a gesture. By quickly establishing the whole figure, gesture drawings provide a base for observation, analysis, and correction, serving as the building blocks for more refined and finished pieces.

project brief
This art course serves as an introduction to the fundamental principles and materials of drawing from observation for both art majors and non-art majors. The course emphasizes working from direct observation to translate three-dimensional objects and spatial relationships onto a twodimensional surface. Through handson projects and exercises, key drawing concepts such as line, mark, value, texture, perspective, proportion, and composition are explored. The course also introduces basic drawing materials, techniques, and safety considerations, providing a strong foundation for observational drawing and visual analysis.

project brief
This course introduces the materials, techniques, and traditions of printmaking through a focused exploration of monotype and relief processes. Emphasis is placed on the graphic nature of prints: including layering, repetition, texture, and mark-making, while building strong technical foundations in the medium. Through guided projects and demonstrations, this course develops craftsmanship and a deeper understanding of how images are constructed, transformed, and communicated through print. This fosters an appreciation for printmaking as a distinct and influential artistic practice.
