Welcome back to KREIA and to 2013! It seems like it’s been awhile since we gathered for a meeting at Woodhaven since the Holidays took us to a different venue and experience on the CQ Princess for our Christmas program. I think everyone there had a great time even though it was a bit cozy Thanks go to Dan Jones and Dennis Erhard for putting it together. They are already working on next years program which already promises to be bigger and better Congratulations go to Jay Long for receiving the Ed Melton award for 2012. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this. This is an award we give in honor of Ed who was a great mentor to fellow investors especially new members in Kreia. I personally have sought out Jay’s help and experience throughout the years and can attest to his embodiment of the views and values of Ed. Way to go Jay! Our first meeting of the new year will be Thursday January 24. As is traditional, we will have CPA Mike Grinnan who will talk about that dreaded subject--taxes-something we all will be working on in the next couple of months. Mike will help us interpret and understand some of the new laws coming into effect.

2012 ED MELTON AWARD Congratulations to Jay Long, the 2012 recipient of the Ed Melton Award, the recognition given annually at our December meeting to an individual that has contributed to the success of the Kentuckiana Real Estate Investors Association. Jay is a long standing member of our group and has given unselfishly of his time and talents to KREIA. He has served on the Board for many years, including 2 terms as VicePresident and 2 years as President. Each year the prior recipients of the award have their annual dinner meeting and discuss those KREIA members that have given so much to our organization that they should be publicly honored for their contributions. Jay was found to be worthy for many reasons, but primarily for his contribution to the overall education of KREIA members. Jay for many years chaired the KREIA mentor program. This took much time on his part to schedule 10 speakers over a 5 month period, to publicize the event, sign up the enrollees, collect the funds and properly arrange the facilities. All of the attendees received much in the way of valuable hands on practical working knowledge for their involvement in the local real estate arena. Jay also introduced the infamous Rich Dad – Poor Dad series of books into the libraries of many KREIA members. When Jay first started attending KREIA meetings he met Ed Melton and learned firsthand from the great mentor himself. Jay even bought his first property from Ed. Thus it was only natural that Jay Long should be honored by receiving the plaque bearing the name of Ed Melton. Congratulations to Jay for a job well done, and KREIA now thanks you for all that you have given to us by presenting you with this prestigious annual award. KREIA Annual Dues Update After a big discussion and debate at Thursday nightâ€™s board meeting, your KREIA Board members voted to NOT increase membership dues provided they are paid online at KREIA.com. It is simple, automated, and human free resulting in less errors, less work for volunteers and is more efficient. NEW RULES affecting your membership dues. 1. If you pay your KREIA dues with a check or cash, there will be a $20 processing fee added to the cost of your annual dues. 2. Should you let your membership lapse for 90 days or more, you will be required to re-apply with the $20 application fee.
