Each plumbing fixture in your house has a vent line that connects with other vent lines, ultimately terminating above the roof. These lines are critical to preventing sewer gas from escaping through your drain openings. (If you experience gurgling sounds in your sink, it’s likely the lack of proper venting.) With a bit of effort you could open the wall inside the vanity above the drain opening and install an elbow. Move the line into the side wall cavity next to your medicine cabinet hole and reconnect it above the medicine cabinet or in the attic. They do make mechanical vents which can be used instead of the
piping into the attic. These units draw air when required using a baffle and a spring. They must however be installed correctly and accessible. If you choose to use a mechanical vent be certain to cap the vent you abandoned in the attic where it enters the plumbing tree. Do not confuse plumbing tree with plum tree. There is nothing edible on a plumbing tree. If any part of this is confusing, call a qualified professional. That is what they are there for.
