As a senior, I have spent the last four years, in some cases more than that, with the same group of people. The best part is, we have all witnessed each other grow up and turn into who we are now as we’re released into the real world and go our separate ways. We will all become very different people but each and every one of my classmates has shaped me into the person I am, in the same way that I have had a part in shaping each and every one of them. We’ve made it through elementary with cooties, lack of teeth, and making new friends. We’ve made it through the awkward years of middle school, the braces and makeup experimenting that goes with it, and we’ve made it through high school and all the drama. We’ve been through tears and we’ve been through laughter. My advice for the underclassmen is as follows: say what you think needs to be said, but always stay kind; try out for a team because you won’t have another chance and you may be good; stay positive and surround yourself with people who do the same; if you don’t want to be known as someone negative, don’t surround yourself with people doing the negative things; whatever you want to do, do it because “those who mind don’t matter and those who matter won’t mind” (Dr. Seuss). Just be happy, because that’s all that really matters.
This year I had the privilege of being a part of the Impact Institue’s Health Occupations Education program. In this program, students are given the opportunity to experience real life medical events that are unable to be taught in the typical classroom setting. While experiencing a day in the life of an occupational therapist, a 9-year old boy came in for therapy. This young, little boy had just recently started walking on his own and was working extremely hard on talking and making eye contact with others. On my 2nd day at the therapy center, he walked up to me, grabbed my arm, and looked me right in the eyes and said “Hi!” The occupational therapist and the boy’s mother were so surprised and proud of him and began crying. This precious moment gave me chills! This little guy had just accomplished something we all take for granted daily. I’m beyond thankful to have had the opportunity to experience Health Occupations Education.

The last few years I have spent my days waiting to leave high school. Now that it’s here, leaving seems unthinkable. Eastside seemed to be all I knew. Through Student Council, Cheerleading, Colar Guard, and being Class President, I was able to enjoy my high school years. My best advice is to find something you enjoy and embrace every moment of it. Go to Friday night football games and other sporting events and take part in activities outside of school so you don’t regret it later. In high school I achieved many things and became the person I am today. Thank you Eastside for helping make me who I am today.
My favorite part of high school has definitely been the time that I’ve spent in the drama department. The directors and my fellow cast members have pushed me to become a well-rounded individual throughout all the hours of practice, dedication, and perseverance. We’ve grown together as friends and as leaders.
