5000-1400 Years Ago: Early Martial Arts Forms "Pankration" (a combination of striking and wrestling) became prominent in ancient Greece during the Greek Olympics.

Karate, initially known as "To De", started developing on the Okinawa Islands and contributed significantly to modern martial arts.




• Kickboxing began in Japan by combining Karate with Muay Thai.
• In 1963, Japanese Karate fighters went to Thailand, and the event became the starting point for Kickboxing.


• In 1966, Osamu Noguchi founded the Kickboxing Association in Osaka, officially marking the sport's creation.
• The essential techniques came from Full-Contact Karate (Kyokushin). However, throwing and butting were allowed initially to distinguish them from Muay Thai. Thus, Mas Oyama, the founder of Kyokushin Karate, was a significant influenceon the development of Kickboxing.

• Kickboxing was broadcast on TV in Japan in the 1970s, greatly boosting its popularity.

K-1 launched and redefined Kickboxing, excluding elbow strikes and wrestling.
