WHAT IS COMPRESSION THERAPY?

Compression allows patients to live better. Whether they need to wear compression to prevent DVT in travel, prevent tired, achy legs while they're working a long shift, or want to enhance endurance during a run, compression is the solution they seek. Compression therapy uses socks or stockings to apply external pressure to the limbs, improving circulation and reducing or preventing swelling.

How Compression Works True gradient compression garments are designed to deliver a controlled amount of pressure which is greatest at the ankle of the garment and gradually decreases toward the top of the stocking to provide maximum vein support.

How Compression is Measured Compression is measured in millimeters of mercury per square inch (mmHg), or how much pressure is required to elevate mercury. Higher levels of compression offer greater therapeutic values for more serious pathologies. Use the chart at the right for suggested usages.

Great for daily wear, travel, and sports, compression stockings help improve circulation without being too tight on your legs. 15–20mmHg compression garments come in a variety of materials to fit any lifestyle.

Ideal for varicose veins, spider veins, swelling (edema) and after surgery. You don’t have to have a condition to wear 20–30mmHg. People looking for a bit more support than the 15–20mmHg usually choose to wear 20–30mmHg.

This stronger level of compression is recommended for blood clots (DVT), lymphedema, severe swelling (edema), severe varicose veins and post-surgery.

What does mmHg stand for? The medical abbreviation mmHg stands for “millimeters of mercury”, which is a unit of measurement for pressure. It’s the same unit of measurement for measuring blood pressure. Compression stockings use a range for how much pressure it provides, because the compression changes depending on your size.

This is not a recommendation for a specific product or brands. This is general information and not intended to diagnose or treat patients. Comfortable Our garments are made of soft fibers and offer comfortable support encouraging patients to be more compliant with their compression therapy. Moisture wicking fibers keep patients dry by evaporating moisture away from the skin. Soft, comfortable knit-in bands keep garments in place without causing uncomfortable indentations.

Affordable Compression affordability can limit or prevent compliance with prescribed compression therapy. High quality, medically effective Therafirm compression products can be offered at a lower price than other brands. Often the affordable price will encourage wearers to obtain several pairs to allow a normal laundering interval, and to provide a “wardrobe” for various occasions.

Wash garments by hand in lukewarm or cold water with a mild detergent. D o not bleach

Bleach will degrade the fibers in your compression products and cause them to break down faster. L ine or drip dry and do not iron

Prolonged exposure to excessive heat will more quickly break down the fibers in your compression products. D o not wring

Wringing the product can distort and wrinkle the fibers and affect the efficacy of your compression.

Measurement Tips

T he best time for patients to be measured is when they first get up in the morning. Measurements taken

later in the day are not as accurate due to swelling that occurs throughout the day.

2. M easure the calf circumference at the fullest part of the calf.

M easure the patient while he or she is standing. If the fitting cannot take place before the patient has been on his/ her feet for some time, the patient’s legs and feet should be elevated for 15 minutes prior to taking the measurements.

1. M easure the ankle circumference at the narrowest part of the ankle, above the ankle bone.

3. F or Knee Highs, measure the length from the floor to just below the bend of the knee. 4. F or Thigh Highs and Pantyhose, measure the thigh circumference at the widest part of the thigh.

Take snug measurements against the skin. Avoid measuring over socks or slacks.

Position top approximately two fingers below the bend of knee. high Highs: Grasp top of stocking T and pull up over ankle and calf. Position top of stocking at mid-thigh for Therafirm and top of leg for Ease. antyhose: With crotch in a snug, P comfortable position, stretch panty area high with both hands. Adjust waist band to normal position.

Notes

1. Ease by Therafirm and Core-Spun by Therafirm products are very stretchy so it is important the garment is placed correctly (see Step 4). In addition, to ensure a proper fit and optimal comfort, adjust the garment so the material is evenly distributed on the leg. Check that there are no creases or wrinkles. 2. T o avoid snags in hosiery, keep nails trimmed and refrain from wearing. 3. D onning gloves are recommended if patient needs additional help donning.

1 4. S tockings should not be too tight over dressings. Socks must fit the shape of the foot. Socks should have even compression or elasticity so that the sock takes on the anatomical shape of the foot without high compression (binding points) that may create discomfort or circulation obstruction. Observe the bare foot prior to donning the sock. After donning the sock, the foot shape should be consistent with that of the bare foot. If pain, discomfort, or areas of binding occur, the stockings should be removed. Always consult with your physician before wearing gradient compression garments.

A unique elastic tubular bandage for wrists, elbows, arms, ankles, knees, legs, and torso that applies compression for comfort and support under braces. Single layer provides medium compression and double layer provides heavy compression at 50% stretch. At 100% stretch the compression is almost doubled. Doubled layers will almost double compression at both 50% and 100% stretch. Domestic Accounts TE RMS: Net 30 from date of invoice.

Forms of payment include check, money order, cashier’s check, wire transfer or upon approval, credit card (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover) subject to a service fee as allowed by law. Orders will be shipped C.O.D or CREDIT CARD until credit terms are approved upon submission of a credit application and tax exemption certificate. Upon credit approval, open terms will be established. Credit approval remains subject to continued review even after credit is approved. We will not DROP SHIP C .O.D. ORDERS. If C .O.D. shipments are refused, all costs incurred plus a $10.00 charge will be billed. Statements of Account are sent the middle of each month. Our billing month covers invoices, credit memos and payments for such month. Service charges are based on the amount past due and subject to an interest charge of 1.5% per month, effective annual rate of 18% (or the highest rate permitted by applicable law). Collection Fee: All collection charges and fees incurred in collecting past due accounts will be billed and paid by customer and must be paid in full before shipment of orders are resumed. Returned Checks: There will be a $25.00 service charge on all checks returned unpaid. DE LIVE RY CLAIMS: No claim for shortages will be allowed unless made within 10 working days of receipt of order. SALES ONLY IN THE US: Customers shall not directly or indirectly (including, without limitation, via the Internet) market, sell or export the products to customers located outside of the United States or sell, service or promote the products from a location outside of the United States. If customer is a distributor, customers of the distributor may only sell the products to end users in the United States.

ONLINE RESE LLE RS: Thuasne customers may not re-sell or distribute to anyone that may re-sell any Thuasne products on any online marketplaces, including but not limited to Amazon.com, Wal-Mart.com, eBay.com, without written consent from Thuasne. Current online retailers are not automatically granted permission to sell on online marketplaces. All customers must have written consent from Thuasne to sell or distribute to customers that sell through these specific channels. Thuasne reserves the right to not sell to any customer who violates this policy. RETURNE D GOODS POLICY: Acceptance of returned merchandise is at the discretion of Thuasne. Returned merchandise will not be accepted for credit without a valid return authorization number and the lot number for the product. There is a maximum 45-day time limit in which to return all merchandise, should Thuasne approve the return.

Customers should carefully inspect their products as soon as they receive them for manufacturer’s defects. Manufacturer’s defects are flaws that are existent or apparent when the package is opened. Note that manufacturer warranties do NOT include: normal wear and tear, pulled threads, runs, wear at the toe, or holes due to fingernails, toenails, or snags; or any problem caused by the wearer in application, improper use, or improper care of the garment. It is recommended that compression products be replaced every 6 months as the compression can break down with normal wear and care. These occurrences will not be considered as defects. If a customer feels that a hole, snag, tear or run is the result of a manufacturer’s defect, please contact us. We take quality issues very seriously and we will do our best to resolve the matter. Thuasne products purchased from unauthorized resellers are not covered by our warranty. Thuasne products purchased from any marketplace seller will not be covered by our warranty.
