When We Meet We Change the World by Alyce Kelly, CHSP
GMID, what does that mean? I know, Global Meetings Industry Day, but what does it mean for us? Recently, we held our chapter meeting at The StateView Hotel in Raleigh, NC and the MPI Global video from 2013 played while Christian Schroeder was talking about GMID. It’s been a while since I watched that video, but it is powerful. We are all part of a very large and economically powerful industry. MPI-CC Partners for Success! by John Cruz
I get asked all the time about my MPI-CC journey and where I get the biggest value from my membership. My answer has always been a simple one…it’s the connections and relationships that become established and grow year after year. A great example is a recent event that I produced. When planning a meeting, I have two major buckets that are crucial to me: the venue and the keynote speaker. I reached out to two fellow MPI-CC members to partner with me on this conference. I’d like to give a special shout-out to our own Benny Williford of Pinnacle Speakers Bureau for finding an outstanding speaker, who fully exceeded our expectations. The second shout-out is to our own Kate Jansen, Corporate Sales Manager of the Raleigh Convention Center, for both hosting us and for being a true partner in the process. An additional shout out to another MPI member Roger Goodwin and ON Services that managed the production side of my event taking the presentation to the next level. As luck would have it during our March MPI-CC meeting, I received a last-minute request to stage conference furniture and was sitting next to MPI-CC’s Aundrea Hopkins from American Furniture Rental (AFR). She leaned over and said, “I can support you.” Within minutes the order was generated and that request was

handled. So, you see, this collaborative effort between myself and these MPI-CC partners really contributed to the success of my event. I was both proud and thrilled to produce a successful 5th Annual Blue Cross NC 2018 Tech Summit. The purpose of the Summit was to provide an update on our IT vision and strategy and to provide a full day of learning opportunities to our technology professionals. While we explored a variety of technical topics throughout the day, the emphasis of this year’s event was on robotics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. So, it was a major return on my investment by being a member of Meeting Professionals International Carolinas Chapter. n

Maureen asked everyone to review and reported that we are still in pretty good shape even after cancelling the January meeting. Most importantly, we were able to contribute $2,100 more into reserves, which exceeds the budgeted goal for the year. Alyce Kelly, CHSP asked for a motion to approve the financials as presented. Motion: Nicole Keshler made a motion to approve the February P&L and Balance Sheet as presented. Second: Alison Harding, CMP, GTP, CMM Vote: Approved Chapter Office: Christine Irwin, CMP reviewed the March meeting financials, agenda and meeting room locations. Christine reported that most January meeting paid registrants moved their payments to the March or May meetings. Only a handful asked to be refunded. Christine reviewed the metrics report. Consent Agenda: Alyce Kelly, CHSP asked for a motion to approve the consent agenda.

Second: Selah Bideau Vote: Approved Communications: Nicole Keshler announced that she has a new marketing chair (Jessica Bernhardt) who is in charge of collecting information for the Midweek Member Minute. Every department needs to send their information directly to her. The communications team is also working on a social media master plan and will poll attendees tomorrow during chapter announcements. Auctions: Mica Parekh, CMP announced that they will be doing an “F” dollar fundraiser at this meeting. One raffle ticket for a dollar, if the dollar has an “F” on it, you get two raffle tickets. Mica requested the entire Board’s help in soliciting for Annual silent auction donations. November Meeting Survey Results: Amelia Hodges reviewed the results from the November Meeting survey and addressed feedback with the Board. Our speaker, Mike Hourigan, was well-received. CMP Bootcamp: Amelia Hodges presented on a proposed new CMP Bootcamp. After much discussion, the Board would like Amelia and Deanna to go back to the party that proposed this with a few follow up questions before deciding whether or not to move forward with this and what that format looks like. CrowdCompass Agreement: Nicole Keshler announced that we have renewed the CrowdCompass App partnership for another 4 years. New Business January Meeting Cancellation: Alyce Kelly, CHSP reviewed the details for how the January meeting cancellation was handled. The Office of the President
and The Management Office were monitoring the weather and continually keeping in contact as things progressed. As soon as the Governor declared the state of emergency and urged all non-essential meetings and travel to be postponed, Alyce Kelly, Alison Harding, Barb Dragan, Christine Irwin and Sarah Johnson all got on a conference call within minutes to discuss the plan of action. Attendees and the hotel were notified immediately of the cancellation. Alyce Kelly wrote a formal letter to the Director of Sales notifying her of the official cancellation and assuring her that we would look to rebook the hotel in 2019.

Board Retreat: Alison Harding reminded the incoming board that the 2018-2019 Board Retreat will be held April 12-13 at the Siena Hotel. Steven Foster will be our facilitator for both the April and November retreats.

Global Meetings Industry Day: Alison Harding announced that the Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) event will be held on April 12 also at the Siena Hotel. We will wrap up with the retreat around 5:00pm, and begin the GMID reception with programming starting at 5:30pm.

Hotel RFP per person pricing: Amelia Hodges presented on behalf of herself and Deanna House. They notified the Board that it has been a few years since we have increased the per person pricing on our hotel RFPs. After discussion on per diem pricing as well as standard hotel F&B pricing, a motion was put on the table. Motion: Amelia Hodges made a motion to increase the MPICC per person pricing budget to: • Board Break - $10 per person, inclusive • New Member Mixer - $8 per person, inclusive • Welcome Reception (to include 2 drink tickets) $40 per person, inclusive • Breakfast - $15 per person, inclusive • AM Break - $10 per person, inclusive Second: Selah Bideau Vote: Approved Education Committee: Amelia Hodges announced that July, September and November speakers are finalized and currently being contracted. Global Mid-Year Update: Alyce Kelly presented the current score of our performance standards as reviewed by Belinda. These points will grow as the year progresses. We are currently sitting at 14% chapter participation in the Global satisfaction survey. Next Board Meeting: The next board meeting will be held on May 16, 2018 at the Hilton Wilmington Riverside (soon to be Hotel Ballast) in Wilmington, NC.
