The 2024 Carinya Garglen Sale result was very exciting for us and gave us confidence that we are presenting quality bulls that meet industry standard. We thank all of you who attended, and especially those who showed confidence in our genetics by purchasing at the sale.
We take great pride in presenting the very best of what we have bred, however experience has taught us that this industry is also shaped by variables such as weather and politics. Therefore, we continue to strive for excellence and remain humble and hopeful that all factors will come together favourably on sale day. Rather than resting on our laurels, we are committed to ongoing improvement and to meeting the evolving needs of beef producers across the country.
The start to 2025 has shown domestic and world-wide interest in Australian beef, which has been reflected in prices achieved in the commercial sector. Long term forecasts from analysts suggest that the beef industry in Australia will only continue to gain strength. Let us hope we can achieve a sustainable return for everyone along the chain, from breeders, to traders, to feedlots, to abattoirs and ultimately to the consumer.
We were particularly proud of the data collected and presented to you in 2024. We believe the results were a true reflection of the fact that we are fulfilling the demands of astute beef producers. Looking ahead, we recognise that adaptability and innovation remain crucial for long-term success. As seasonal patterns shift and markets fluctuate, we are constantly reviewing our breeding objectives, performance data, and herd management practices to ensure we stay ahead of industry changes. By embracing new technologies and listening to feedback from producers, we are better equipped to deliver genetics that thrive under diverse conditions and provide enduring value to our clients. Having said that, we also place significant emphasis on presentation as we believe that the first impression can be the lasting one.
This year, we have increased the number of bulls presented but have certainly not compromised on the quality throughout the sale team. The introduction of new and exciting sires represented in pedigrees throughout the catalogue will be of interest to you. They have been chosen specifically for traits including conformation, breed character and structural correctness, to name a few. We feel certain they will not disappoint, but will let you be the judge on Tuesday, October 28 th at The Carinya Garglen Sale, Glenlands, Bouldercombe.

Choosing the right bull today will shape tomorrow’s success
We believe choosing a sire will come from your heart before your head. If a bull demands your attention from that first glance, go with your instinct and show him due respect.
Have you heard the term “you eat with your eyes”? A beautifully presented meal will beg you to taste it, and a beautifully presented bull will beg you to evaluate and research him further. By combining that gut feeling with an eye for phenotypic presence, we give ourselves the best chance to identify a bull whose influence will resonate for years to come.
Intuition alone is not enough. After that first impression, further evaluation becomes essential. Start by studying pedigree and performance records, examining not only the individual bull but also the depth of quality that runs through his pedigree. As you evaluate, remember that no bull is perfect, but the right one will fit the specific goals and environment of your operation. Whether you’re aiming to improve growth rates, enhance maternal traits, or introduce fresh genetics, clarity around your breeding objectives will guide your selection and set your herd on the path to progress.
Many cattle breeders have had generations before them teaching the art of selection by eye. Our forefathers and mentors taught us from a young age how to visually select an animal, and how to choose a sire that will correct the faults in your herd with the physical strengths you seek in that sire. It is through learning from the prior generations and our own experience, that we have reached this point in our breeding programs. We keep an open mind and never stop researching and asking questions of those we believe are masters in this field.
We monitor our herd from the birth of the calf, watching them closely and culling if they display undesirable traits at any time throughout the developmental stages. However, we give them a ‘fair go’ as some calves will display different maturity patterns. Regular inspection and weighing intervals tell the story, not only of the progeny, but also of the sire we are using to produce those calves. If there is a pattern developing for excellent growth and ability to convert feed, then we know we have the right bull servicing our females. We also assess for temperament, structural correctness and reproductive development, just a few of the most important factors in any breeding program.
Our females are just as important as the sires we choose to join them. The importance of the dam is often overlooked when selecting the next great sire, but how important is it to research both the sire and dam of a prospective sire for your herd? Generations of selection for the most desirable female traits – femininity, fertility, and longevity, have paid dividends for our herds, as it will for yours. Knowing the traits you need to address in your breeder herd will be one of the most defining requisites when seeking a new sire for your breeding program.
By modern industry standards, ‘figures’ have become quite important to some when choosing a sire. Traditionally, we have collected raw data, which we believe to be fact. We encourage you to research the science behind your chosen sire and to gain a comprehensive understanding of exactly what the figures mean. However, we implore you to ask questions of the breeder as it has been on more than one occasion that there has been a valid reason that you will see a variation in an EBV to the one you consider acceptable.
We believe that data alone does not tell the full story. Behind every EBV figure lies the experience of seasons spent in the yards, and hands on observations. True progress in breeding comes from integrating record-keeping with an understanding of each individual animal. While technology and genetic testing now offer powerful tools to inform our choices, we know that the breeding success still hinges on knowledge, reputation and integrity.
It is this blend of measured analysis and inherited know-how that forms the foundation of a resilient breeding program. We trust our senses, our records, and our industry counterparts who share their insights and challenges. Open-mindedness and a willingness to learn, adapt, and sometimes take calculated risks form the fabric of sustainable improvement in the herd.
In every decision, a blend of science, tradition, and intuition is required. While numbers can guide and past experience can instruct, it is the balance between physical evaluation and the figures presented that makes for great breeding choices. The knowledge we gain grows with each season, each calving, and every challenge faced.
Ultimately, selecting the right bull is as much an art as it is a science. By combining careful observation, diligent research, and a willingness to ask the tough questions, you position yourself and your herd for a future of sustained success.

Catalogue INFORMATION
SUPPLEMENTARY SHEET
A supplementary sheet will be provided on sale day which will have EBV’s and raw data information collected on each lot. This information will be available two weeks prior to sale date by contacting the selling agents, and will be provided at pre-sale inspections.
EBV’S
Estimated Breeding Values are expressed as the difference between an individual animals genetics and the genetic base or historic genetic level of the population, to which an animal is compared. It is impossible to determine an animal’s true breeding value, but it is possible to estimate it. The accuracy value provides an indication of the reliability of the EBV. It is an indication of the amount of information that has been used in the calculation of the EBV.
< 50% = Preliminary or low accuracy
50-74% = Medium accuracy
75-90% = Medium to high accuracy
>90% = High accuracy
RAW DATA
Raw data is an actual measurement and a proven fact, and all testing has been carried out by David Reid, a professional in the field of data collection. We will provide data for Morphology, Scrotal Measurements, Semen % Motile, Eye Muscle Area, Intramuscular Fat, Rib Fat (measured between the 12th & 13th rib), P8/Rump Fat (measured between the hip and pin), Weight (date taken will be advertised) and the ADWG for the bulls’ whole life.

SALE INFORMATION
INSPECTION
All Carinya Garglen Sale bulls will be at the Glenlands feedlot yards, Glenlands, Bouldercombe, from 03/10/2025, and are available for inspection by appointment only with either vendors or agents. Photos and videos can be viewed through our online catalogue on the StockLive website and the ABBA website online platform. Alternatively, contact the agents and one can be sent directly to you. All bulls will be penned for inspection by 6:30am on sale day 28th October, 2025 and will be ear tagged and paint branded with their relevant lot numbers for your convenience. Please remember to bring your catalogue along to any inspections.
ONLINE BIDDING
Online bidding is available through StockLive. There are comprehensive instructions included in the catalogue, should you wish to bid online. Phone bidding will also be available via arrangements made with agents prior to the sale date.
HEALTH
All sale lots are Pompes tested free and have been DNA tested for parentage. Relevant vaccines have been administered at the appropriate times, including 7 in 1 vaccine, 3 day vaccine, Botulism and Three-Germ Blood. Tick treatments have been arranged for the cattle to enter tick-free country immediately post sale.
SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION
All relevant information including morphology results, semen test results, scrotal circumferences, carcass scans, and final weights will be available from 21st October. Contact agents should you require a copy emailed directly or handouts will be available at inspection appointments after that date, and on sale day. EBVs will be provided on the back of these supplementary sheets.
INSURANCE
We strongly advise that you consider insuring your purchases immediately on closure of the sale. Insurance agents will be present for your convenience. All care is taken, however the Kirk and Bishop families, the selling agents, property owners and employees of the afore mentioned, take no responsibility for injury or death from fall of the hammer.
Please note – any person or persons entering the Glenlands Sale Complex does so at their own risk and release the owners, vendors and agents from any damage, loss, death or injury incurred whilst attending The Carinya Garglen Sale. This is also the case for any third party entering the complex at arranged inspection times or during time of the sale.
BREEDING GUARANTEE
All care is taken to guarantee breeding ability of sale lots, with undertaking of morphology testing and crush side semen and evaluation tests. These results will be available on sale day. Carinya and Garglen both offer a full breeding guarantee, if it is proven by way of veterinary certificate within 6 months of the sale date 28/10/2025, that there is a fertility or breeding issue with a lot you have purchased. By arrangement, any claim may be replaced by an animal of comparable value or given as a full credit of the purchase price, less the salvage value of the original animal. This guarantee does not cover injury, misadventure, disease, mismanagement or negligence, post fall of the hammer at The Carinya Garglen Sale in the year of purchase.
DELIVERY
Delivery arrangements are to be made at closure of the sale. Your purchased lots can be trucked to Gracemere Saleyards at the vendor’s expense for your convenience, but must leave the Glenlands complex by no later than 5:00PM on Wednesday 29th October 2025. All care will be taken in delivery, if by the vendors, but no responsibility accepted.
HEALTH & SAFETY
Every care has been taken to ensure your comfort and safety whilst attending our sale. Please take care and be aware when moving through the animals. Whilst we take every precaution to minimise hazards, cattle can be unpredictable and have a mind of their own. Children are not permitted in the pens.

Dutton is without doubt one of, if not the most genetically strong sires that has ever been used in the history of Garglen. A big statement, but the proof is in the progeny. Vigorous from birth, Dutton calves power on, producing top weight gains from weaning and they never look back. Every calf, no matter the breeding of the dam, is stamped by this mighty sire. From their powerful heads through to their impressive body shape, muscle development, correct structure and faultless underlines. Dutton progeny are impressive from birth, and are producing EBV growth figures that link genotype to their very impressive phenotype.
CARINYA KIRKWOOD 11/606 (H)
Carinya Kirkwood is an Australian bred sire that is known all around the world. Have you ever seen a better head on a Brahman Bull? As our wise old fathers taught us, “If the head is good, the rest willfollow. Truer words never spoken. Kirkwood progeny, no matter what herd they come from, are all equally impressive. The thickness of body, amount of meat and muscle, structural correctness and great disposition make Carinya Kirkwood progeny a “must see”. Put a tick beside these lots. They will not disappoint.
WILLTONY BLUNDSTONE 1031 (PS)
Purchased in partnership by Carinya and Garglen Studs, Willtony Blundstone has been a milestone sire for both herds. He is a big, long, sirey type, producing robust calves that will carry on with the job. Blundstone is just a great “doer”. He dominates his females as a bull should, is a great calf getter, but still comes in after the season looking great. He can maintain his mature weight of around the tonne quite easily. Blundstone male progeny have realised exceptional averages for both studs at auction. Females are almost 100% retention for in herd use, as they are just so versatile in any mating program. Blundstone daughters have found their place as donor females at both Carinya and Garglen.
CARINYA M ARIAT 1323/0 (PS)
A retained sire by the incredible Wiltony Blundstone and a full brother to Carinya M Tombstone. Both of these sires were kept as we believe they are an incredible representation of Blundstone, but more so because of the strength of their mother. Carinya M Jacqueline is an incredibly functional and fertile cow. Ariat stamps his calves with the consistency the Carinya cattle are known for. We can’t fault the polled heads on them, nor the muscle and thickness. Ariat is a sire from tip to tail and incredibly active. Structurally he is very strong and even in a dry season he keeps his condition.
JDH MR ENCINO MANSO 612/6 (H)
A JDH Hawk Manso 666/5 son and out of a JDH Atlas cow. Carinya purchased the Australian rights in Encino in 2016 and he has certainly made a huge impact on our breeding program. Encino was selected for his bone, length, tidy underline and overall structural correctness- his impeccable temperament is just the bonus. He puts his stamp on all of his progeny, that’s for sure!
NCC SUGARWOOD 765 (H)
Sugarwood needs no introduction to the Australian Brahman world, having consistently sired high money earning progeny thus far. He breeds the bone, thickness and scale into his calves, not to mention their temperaments. Sugarwood and his progeny to date have high libidos and are real calf getters. Carinya has retained a number of Sugarwood sires such as Carinya Boynewood (Sire of Carinya Wickham sold for $110,000) and Carinya Lockwood (Sire of Carinya J Ladbroke It $130,000 & Carinya Milwaukee $105,000). Sugarwood’s sons and grandsons have caught the eye of renowned brahman breeders.
CARINYA M TOMBSTONE 1108/9 (PS)
Tombstone is the first retained Blundstone son, kept because of the strength of his mother. We have been so impressed with his dam, Carinya M Jacqueline that we have kept the first two natural bull calves out of her. Tombstone, like his sire is large framed with a tonne of bone. His progeny is proving to show the same great traits as their father and grandfather alike, with the added bonus of majority being polled.

Brewster is enhanced by an outstanding combination of extra length, strong bone, abundant muscling, and width across the topline. Accompanied by a good masculine head, good sheath, and testicles. He is out of the top producing El Ja Baby Doll Manso 3671.

LMC POLLED HOSS 108/9
Hailing from the La Muneca Brahman stud in the US, Hoss is a son of the great Polled Phenom and, in our opinion, one of the heaviest boned polled bulls in the world. He has tremendous growth traits, oozing scale and just adds another dimension to our polled programme. His calves have a beautiful disposition too. The 2025 sale bulls are from his first season and we couldn’t be happier.
BRC BOOMBOX 38
We are excited to present the first progeny offered in Australia of world-renowned sire, BRC Boombox 38. As you can see from his photo, Boombox has extremely impressive phenotype, which is backed by figures, being recognised in the top 3% in the USA for weaning and yearling weight. His body capacity, depth of flank, easy fleshing, strong bone and correct feet and leg structure make this very attractive sire, even more so. The added bonus is his naturally gentle temperament. His progeny have shown the genetic strength of their sire which is evident by the consistency of type. With quite a few lots by Boombox on offer at the 2025 sale, we recommend your inspection.
US POLLED EVOLUTION 409/5
Polled Evolution is a phenotypically impressive sire. We were lucky enough to visit the Salinas Ranch and see this great sire in the flesh. He reminded us quite a lot of our very own Wiltony Blundstone. Polled Evolution is a bigger framed, heavier boned bull that is simply very correct in every aspect with a strong polled head that follows through to a long, deep bodied bull standing on great bone and correct structure. A tidy underline that is so desired is noticeable in his progeny. He stands square and has a presence that instantly catches your eye, all complimented by his gentle disposition.
GARGLEN S BENTON (PP)
Benton is an outstanding son of our most successful sire Wiltony Blundstone, and out of a highly regarded JDH Massai daughter. This young sire is producing some of the best at Garglen. He is a strong, masculine, virile and very fertile bull with consistent positive pregnancy tests of over 90% for the past 3 years. His has a broad PP head, tidy underline, extreme length and stands on exceptional bone and structure. Add to that his do-ability, coming home from a season with 50-60 heifers (yes-he is our heifer bull) looking great each year. He is reproducing himself to perfection with low birthweight, robust calves and is our replacement sire for Blundstone, now that the old fella has retired. We are confident his progeny will perform equally well.

the right prior to the fall of the hammer, of the vendor to withdraw any lot without declaring the reserve, the highest bidder shall be the buyer
5. The auctioneer has the right to bid on behalf of the vendor provided that right is notified prior to the commencement of the sale and is subject to State law
6. A bid cannot be made or accepted after the fall of the hammer unless, in accordance with clause 8, the auctioneer decides to put the lot up again.
7. Prior to the fall of the hammer the auctioneer shall announce the last bid and receive any further bids. The last price called by the auctioneer at the fall of the hammer shall be the amount at which the lot has been sold.
8. In the event of a disputed bid, the auctioneer is the sole arbitrator of the successful bidder or the auctioneer may decide to put the lot up again. The auctioneer’s decision is final.
9. The auctioneer may refuse to accept any bid which, in the auctioneer’s opinion, is not in the best interest of the vendor and need not give reasons for doing so.
10. A bidder shall be deemed to be a principal unless, prior to bidding, the
animal which is lame, blind or diseased where that condition existed prior to the fall of the hammer but could not be reasonably observed when the animal was in the selling pen.
(d) If the purchaser rejects an animal during the time for rejection then the sale of that animal is cancelled and the animal is returned to the vendor or sold on such terms as any buyer and the agent may agree, after the agent has disclosed the reason for rejection to that buyer.
(e) This subclause applies only to cattle which are sold in Queensland at auction for slaughter. The agent has responsibility for the prevention of loss or escape (but not death, sickness or injury) of those cattle from the time of the fall of the hammer, for delivery to and from the scales, to the buyer’s delivery pen and onto the buyer’s nominated transport. This responsibility ends at the earlier of those cattle boarding the buyer’s nominated transport or sunset on the day after the sale.
subclause does not apply if the agent makes an announcement to that effect prior to sale.
19. (a) Subject to the right of rejection in Clause 18, all conditions and warranties expressed or implied by law are hereby excluded from the sale to the extent that the law allows. All lots are open for inspection prior to the commencement of the sale and are sold with all faults, if any. No compensation shall be given for any faults, imperfections, errors of description, number in or of any lots sold or otherwise.
(b) Any claim or objection arising out of an error or misdescription in the provision of relevant information in terms of legislation or regulation concerning the National Livestock Identification Scheme (NLIS) must be made by 5:00pm on the seventh day after the fall of the hammer. No objection, requisition or claim against the vendor or agent in respect of such error or misdescription can be made after that time.
(c) Any statements made by the vendor or the auctioneer whether in writing or orally to the effect that any female has been pregnancy tested or scanned positive shall mean and require only that a certificate in writing shall be supplied to the buyer signed by a qualified veterinary surgeon or certified scanner certifying that the said female has been tested or scanned on the date specified in the certificate and that in the opinion of the surgeon or scanner was pregnant on that date.
(d) For slaughter cattle, the agent undertakes to make every reasonable effort to ensure that any NLIS cattle device number is transferred from the saleyard PIC to the purchaser’s PIC on the NLIS database no later than midnight on the day of the sale.
(e) For other slaughter livestock the agent undertakes to make every reasonable effort to ensure that the NLIS information is transferred from the saleyard PIC to the purchaser’s PIC on the NLIS database no later than midnight on the day of the sale.
(f) Where livestock have a food safety or market eligibility status derived from the National Vendor Declaration (NVD) and/or the NLIS/ERP database, the agent will inform the buyers by presale catalogue and/or announce the status prior to the offering of those lots.
20. If delivery is made to, or possession obtained by, the buyer or its representative before full payment of the Price, then until full payment is received, the buyer:
(a) does not acquire title to the livestock;
(b) holds the livestock as bailee only for the vendor;
(c) must act in a fiduciary capacity in its relationship with the vendor;
(d) must store the stock separately or so that they are readily distinguishable from other livestock owned by the buyer;
(e) is responsible for the safety and well being of the livestock;
(f) may make a bona fide sale for market value of any or all of the livestock. As between the buyer and the subsequent buyer, the sale shall be made by the buyer in its own name and not as agent for the vendor, however as between the vendor and buyer, the sale shall be made as bailee and agent for the vendor; and
(g) must keep and account for the proceeds of any subsequent sale separately from its other money and hold those proceeds, together with the benefits of any rights against subsequent buyers, on trust for the vendor.
21. The purchaser agrees that:
(a) Clause 20 creates a registrable security interest under the Personal Property Securities Act (Cth) 2009 (PPSA);
(b) the Purchaser acknowledges the rights of the Seller (and/or the Agent if Clause 25 applies) to register a financing statement under the PPSA with respect to the security interest created by this clause;
(c) the Livestock are collateral for the purposes of the PPSA;
(d) to the extent permitted, the Purchaser waives any right the Purchaser has under the PPSA to receive notices; and
(e) the date upon which the security interest created by this clause comes into force is the first date on which livestock are delivered pursuant to this contract
22. The buyer may not make any claim against the vendor for actions by the vendor or its agent under clauses 20 or 21 and indemnifies the vendor and its agent against any loss, damage, costs, expenses, penalties, fines or claims suffered by the vendor, the agent or any person or entity arising from the vendor exercising its rights under clauses 20 or 21.
23.1. Clause 23 applies whenever the agent pays the vendor before being paid by the buyer, which the agent is not bound to do. The agent is then the del credere agent of the vendor at law.
23.2. The vendor hereby gives notice to the buyer of the assignments referred to in clause 23.3
23.3. When this clause applies, in addition to any rights of the agent that arise by operation of the law, the parties agree that, subject to clause 23.5 the agent is subrogated to all rights of the vendor under these terms and conditions against the buyer.
23.4. The vendor acknowledges that the agent may take enforcement, repossession or other action to recover any livestock for which the buyer has not paid in full, or the Price of such livestock, owing by the buyer under these terms and conditions: (a) when this clause does not apply, as agent of the vendor (including by reselling the livestock); and (b) when this clause applies, on the agent’s own behalf exercising the rights of the vendor by subrogation or assignment under these terms and conditions (whether in the vendor’s name or not) and, where title to the livestock has not passed to the agent, by selling the livestock as agent of the vendor without the agent having to account to the vendor for the proceeds of sale.
23.5. The agent may at any time, assign, transfer, securitise or otherwise dispose of all or any of its rights under these terms and conditions and any debts created pursuant to it (including, without limitation, the rights assigned to it under clause 23.3).
23.6. The vendor hereby irrevocably appoints the agent as the vendor’s attorney to: (a) do at any time and in any manner as the agent thinks fit all acts necessary or desirable to perfect or improve the rights and interests afforded, or intended to be afforded, to the agent under these terms and conditions; and (b) appoint one or more sub-attorneys to do anything that the agent may do as the vendor’s attorney.
23.7. These terms and conditions do not render the agent liable to the buyer as vendor nor entitle the buyer to set off against the agent any right the buyer may have against the vendor or otherwise.
23.8. The buyer acknowledges that the provisions of this clause 23 are intended solely for the benefit of the agent (and its assigns) and the vendor. The liabilities and obligations of the buyer will not be in any way affected: (a) by this clause 23, other than as it expressly provides; or (b) by the failure of the agent or the vendor or either of them to comply with the terms of this clause 23.
23.9. The buyer must pay all amounts payable to the vendor or the agent under these terms and conditions without any deduction, withholding, set off or counterclaim whatsoever, whether the benefit of a deduction, withholding, set off or counterclaim is alleged to exist in favour of the buyer as against the vendor or the agent in any capacity whatsoever or any other person including any assignor of the vendor’s or the buyer’s interests under these terms and conditions.
24. (a) The agent agrees that he is liable to pay to the vendor the Price, less such commission as is agreed between the vendor and the agent, and in the absence of any agreement such amount as is reasonable, and less the Fees that are payable by the vendor that were incurred by the agent on behalf of the vendor in relation to the sale of the livestock.
