Kinsterna Vineyards
At the hill across the Kinsterna Estate, just above the olive groves, lays the vineyard of the mansion. The location and its amphitheatrical formation of the vineyard is of very important significance to the final quality of the wines of Kinsterna, as it is located just over the Aegean Sea, which reflects the sunlight to the vineyards and allows air circulation. The clay like territory gives the unique organoleptic characteristics of the finished product.
Monemvasia - Malvasia (Malmsey)
The legendary wine "Monemvasia-Malvasia" has been produced since at least 1340 A.D., when it was used during the coronation of the Patriarch of Kiev, and for 4 centuries it dominated the wine markets in both the East and West. In 2010, the sweet "Malvasia" wine was produced from the sun-dried grapes from our vineyards' varietals (Monemvasia, Assyrtiko, Kidonitsa, Asproudes) and was awarded PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) status for the Monemvasia region, for which you can read more about it in the mansion's library. This was achieved despite the attempts by wine producers in France, Spain, Italy and even Crete to claim exclusive patrimony of this wine. Finally, after monumental efforts by Greek oenologists and historians, they were able to prove that this wine actually originated in Monemvasia, as the name "Malvasia" confirms.
After being aged in oak barrels for 24 months, "Monemvasia-Malvasia" was first bottled in 2012 and is now available in limited quantities exclusively for visitors and guests.
White Wine Kinsterna (Kydonitsa, Monemvasia, Assyrtiko)
Bright yellow colour with light lime green highlights. Scent of citrus, notes of bergamot and quince. Crispy and sparked in the mouth with flavours matching the aromas, refreshing acidity and a long lasting aftertaste.
White Wine Kydonitsa Kinsterna (Kydonitsa)
From the Paleolithic era to the present day, Laconia has been continuously inhabited and cultivated, with the vine forming an integral part of daily life. From Mycenaean and Classical times through the Byzantine period, wine has remained central to both nourishment and trade. Within this long tradition stands Kydonitsa, an ancient indigenous grape variety of Laconia, now revived. At Kinsterna, we produce our own Kydonitsa, capturing in every glass the enduring connection between the land and its wine. Pale to golden hues with delicate silver highlights. Lively acidity, a soft, smooth texture, and harmonious notes of quince and citrus, leading to a clean, persistent finish.
Red Wine Kinsterna (Agiorgitiko)
Deep ruby colour with purple hues. Aromatic intensity of red fruits and plum standing out in an excellent harmony with aromas of sweet spice, pepper, cinnamon and smoke from the ageing in oak barrels. On the palate is balanced, medium to full bodied, with long lasting silky finish.
Rose Wine Kinsterna (Roditis, Moschofilero, Agiorgitiko)
Semi-dry wine with a bright strawberry colour. Intense fruity bouquet of cherry, sour cherry, strawberry and notes of rose. Balanced bodied with intense mouth flavours and long-lasting aftertaste that finishes with flavours of caramelized fruit.
