In the historic region of Monemvasia, Kinsterna is a 13th-century mansion that since 2010 has operated as a living estate of hospitality, a place of authenticity, discreet luxury, and deep connection to the land, honoured with two Michelin Keys. Its 51 rooms, suites, and residences, along with two villas with private pools, are shaped with simplicity and care, in harmony with their surroundings. Here, the vineyard, the olive grove, and the estate’s farm-to-table philosophy express a self-sufficient way of living, cultivating a sense of balance and wellbeing that endures over time.
Life on the estate
Across the fertile 160-acre estate, cultivation and productive activities create a place of self-sufficiency, where daily life follows the natural cycle of the seasons. At Kinsterna, hospitality is lived as a way of life, shaped by close contact with nature and the gentle rhythm of the estate. The farm, henhouse, gardens, and beehives form a living part of the experience, as what is produced becomes wholesome ingredients that reach guests’ tables each day, while the walk to the vineyard passes through prickly pear groves whose fruit is served at breakfast in August. As guests wander through the estate, they discover its history while enjoying products such as wine, extra virgin olive oil, honey, and preserves. Natural care products are created at the Kinsterna production space near the mansion, including the signature cream soap. In this way, life on the estate is shaped by nature, local tradition, and the people who live in it.
Taste our land
With views of the Medieval Castle of Monemvasia and the endless blue of the Aegean, breakfast at Kinsterna is a tasting experience inspired by contemporary Greek cuisine. Fresh eggs from the henhouse, seasonal fruits, homemade preserves, honey, aromatic herbs, and vegetables from the estate gardens are combined with care, highlighting the natural flavour and purity of the ingredients. These same wholesome products inspire the dishes served at the all-day restaurant Mouries, at the taverna Linos, and at the fine dining dinners of Sterna Restaurant.
Discover our history
The manor’s architectural and morphological features testify to the building’s Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman heritage and identity. The earliest known owner was Ibrahim Bey, probably one of the local Ottoman landlords who signed the delivery of Monemvasia in 1821. The manor was then inhabited until the 70’s by the “Lady of Monemvasia”, Lina Kapitsini. The main objective of its restoration was the maintenance of the original architecture using traditional building techniques, old and local natural materials.
Share our philosophy
Our philosophy is rooted in self-sufficiency and in operating in harmony with a living natural environment, as it has for centuries. The estate is energy independent thanks to our photovoltaic park, which not only covers its needs but also provides power to vulnerable households, local churches, and the kindergarten of Monemvasia. Following the rhythm of the seasons, the fruits of the estate shape a sustainable ecosystem and highlight the journey from farm to table, offering a natural experience of harmony. Centuries-old olive groves, orange trees, vineyards, cypress and eucalyptus trees, together with more than 250 varieties of herbs and flowers and the Byzantine cistern, compose a living landscape of calm and balance.
Experience our diversity
From special occasions to the gentle rhythm of estate life, the mansion provides an ideal setting for weddings and memorable gatherings, while the library and event hall host corporate meetings, retreats, and seminars in an atmosphere of calm and inspiration. Throughout the year, experiences such as horse riding, beekeeping, and soap making, along with wine tastings from our estate vineyard and tastings of honey and olive oil, offer a meaningful introduction to the place and its produce. At the same time, seasonal activities such as the grape harvest, olive oil production, and tsipouro distillation bring guests closer to the cycle of nature and local tradition.
Εmbrace wellbeing
At Kinsterna, wellbeing begins with the land and what it provides. The estate’s philosophy is expressed in the Spa through signature treatments that draw on ingredients such as olive oil, honey, and grapes, used with simplicity and respect. The wellbeing areas, the two swimming pools, and yoga and pilates sessions offer moments of relaxation and renewal in a natural rhythm. In the open-air spaces of the estate, gentle activities such as padel, outdoor table football, billiards, and ping pong beneath the eucalyptus trees combine movement and rest, cultivating a sense of balance and harmony.
The gifts of our land
The estate’s products express the character of the place and our relationship with the land. The vineyard gives us our wines, including the legendary sweet wine Monemvasia-Malvasia, while the olive groves provide olives and extra virgin olive oil. Honey from the beehives, fruits from the trees that are transformed into preserves and spoon sweets, and the estate’s aromatic herbs complete a self-sustaining production that is connected to nourishment and wellbeing.
