Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation The Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation is a statutory authority created by the Victorian Parliament to address the challenge of gambling harm in the Victorian community. They work with partners and communities to inform people about the risk of gambling, and to provide support to those who need it, including people affected by someone else gambling. Research tells us gambling harm is not confined to people with severe gambling issues. In raising awareness of the risks and potential harm from gambling, we focus on the community as a whole. We want as many Victorians as possible to be able to recognise the early signs of harm, understand how gambling can get out of control, and know how to get help if they experience harm.
GAMBLERS HELP Gambler’s Help provide a range of services for people experiencing harm from gambling in Victoria. This includes support tailored to the needs of individuals and communities at particular risk of harm. Funded by the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation, services include online, telephone and face-to-face counselling, advice and information. from the Mayor THE CITY OF KINGSTON PROUDLY PRESENTS KINGSTON’S SENIORS FESTIVAL WITH A WIDE RANGE OF EVENTS ON OFFER THIS OCTOBER. The Victorian Seniors Festival theme for 2018 is ‘Get Social’ and Kingston has made sure the City will be packed with opportunities for everyone to be involved and feel part of their local community. During October Kingston will come alive with a huge range of free and low-cost events and activities especially for our seniors. We hope to see you expand your horizons and enrich your lives by making new connections and exploring new opportunities. Kingston is a proudly diverse city, with residents coming from more than 150 countries, speaking
120 languages and following more than 28 diff erent faiths. Council is committed to helping foster an accepting and inclusive community, regardless of anyone’s origin, ethnicity, faith, economic status, disability, age, gender or sexual orientation. The Festival is a time to celebrate all of the special things it means to be a senior. We encourage you to join our tours, concerts, dancing, exercise, information sessions, recreational activities and much more. On behalf of your Council, I would like to thank the local volunteers

2018 Seniors Festival Launch Wednesday 3 October, 10am Westall Community Hub, 35 Fairbank Rd, Clayton South Incorporating the opening of the Intergenerational Project 2018 - The Power is in the Word. Come along and celebrate the launch of the Kingston Seniors Festival, a month-long annual event celebrating the diversity of our seniors. This year’s launch will be held at the Westall Community Hub and will incorporate the opening of the Intergenerational exhibition. This will include stories, poetry and print work. See this beautiful exhibition by younger and older members of our community and discover the array of social events designed for seniors throughout October, including recreational activities, information sessions, concerts and sporting activities.

In 1852, the emigrant vessel Ticonderoga limped into Port Phillip Bay after a nightmare voyage from England during which a quarter of her nearly 800 passengers and crew died from typhus. A young ship’s surgeon stayed to nurse many passengers back to health, at great personal risk. This one-man play tells one of our great maritime stories from the wonderful writer and actor Michael Veitch.

Remember to always carry your Seniors myki and Victorian Seniors Card with you on public transport. Touch on and off as usual, you won’t be charged.
During the festival you won’t be charged when you touch on and off. Throughout the rest of the year, top up with myki Money if you travel occasionally, or myki Pass if you travel often. Your card isn’t locked to myki Money or myki Pass – choose each time you top up.
On regional services that don’t use myki, show your Victorian Seniors Card to the conductor or bus driver.
Where you can go You’ll be able to travel for free on all public transport in Victoria, including: • Melbourne trains, trams and buses • Regional trains, coaches and buses (including regional town bus services) Some private bus operators and airport services are excluded, find out more at ptv.vic.gov.au We recommend travelling during off-peak hours (weekdays between 9am and 4pm, or after 6pm, and on weekends). You’ll be more likely to find a seat.
Travelling in regional Victoria It’s useful to know that: • You need to reserve a seat on long distance V/Line trains and some coaches. • Seats can fill quickly – book early. Bookings open 10.00am Tuesday 4 October – call 1800 800 007. You’ll need to collect your tickets within 48 hours. • You can only travel free in economy class. • You can book a return journey for up to four Victorian Seniors Card holders. • If you’re planning to travel in a group of 12 or more, call our Group Travel Coordinator to check if seats are available - 9619 2338 from 10am, Tuesday 4 September • If you make a booking and aren’t able to travel, let us know. We can give your ticket to someone else.
