No. 164. EDITORIAL.
In his address in College Hall at the beginning of the term, the Headmaster made us all sit bolt upright in our seats, by telling us that the King's School was going to be the best school in'the country. There were many, no doubt, who dismissed the remark as wishful thinking, but we are certain that a large majority regarded his words as an ambitious ideal, for which it was well worth while to strive. Since then we have been striving for this ideal, but in a community there must always be many different conceptions of how things ought to be done. The theory seems to be to see the other man's point of view, and not to run down the efforts of others, the worst of sins, and a sin so easily committed. In spite of many conflicting ideas everything has run remarkably well this term, as the contents of The Vigornian will show, and there has been no listlessness, or lack of activity, that would make one think otherwise. Indeed there has been an epidemic of vandalism amongst the junior boys in the School, but we believe and sincerely hope that those responsible will soon acquire sufficient Public School spirit to realize the wantonness of such childish behaviour. We must, of course, realize that the School is now experiencing the birth-pangs of a new era, and though this may at present be painful, it will bear fruit in the future.
