" 'Fore Gad, now, that is one of the most ungrateful observations I ever heard ! " It has become a tradition for the Editorial to be written in a vein that is purely abstract and impersonal. For once, however, the Editors would address in person all those who read The Vigornian. A fortnight ago we heard how the School has progressed during the last year. There comes a time when even the Editors want to look back and point to developments of their magazine. We hear around us sounds of discontent—" The Vigornian is not what it was." " Nor," would we reply, " is it intended to be." During the last year we have removed the School Calendar ; we have heard from one O.V. who approved of the change. This term, by way of an experiment, we are introducing a new item which looks ahead to next term. We have made a regular feature of an item which of old appeared only occasionally—" Fifty Years Ago." After all, there are not many magazines which can quote from the numbers of 1888. Last term we heard complaints to the effect that The Vigornian seemed extraordinarily thin. Perhaps it did not occur to those who complained that the quality of the paper upon which the magazine is printed had changed—we are sure for the better. There were the usual number of pages, but thinner paper means a thinner magazine. We felt with some pride that the Contributions were at last attaining a satisfying quality and quantity. But do not let it be rumoured that we are satisfied ; once editors become satisfied, magazines cease to exist. But why is it that for the last half of the term one of the editors' most exacting and unpleasant duties is that of badgering into producing contributions people who
