Individual tastes are largely responsible for the measure of enjoyments each member of the School derives from the Summer Term. During the Winter Terms one cannot help feeling that routine governs the movements of everyone and that all have to conform with, and acquiesce in, its rules. Most of the time which can be spent out of doors is used up by some form of organised games or physical exercise. But during this term these occupations do not dominate so much, though they go on just the same, because more of one's time may be spent in the open air. This year there have been two additional pursuits which have proved attractive to many. The first is the Scout Troop formed last term and now flourishing and very popular under the management of Mr. Pedder and Mr. Burnett. The other is manual labour which, it seems, gains favour with the young as a hobby, in spite of the grumbling generally attributed—often, no doubt, with good cause—to the professional workman. This pleasant toil has had as its object not merely the physical fitness of those who were not wholly engaged in Cricket or Rowing, but the levelling and preparing of the ground which the Headmaster has acquired and is laying out as a garden for the use of the School. We gladly take this opportunity of thanking him very sincerely for his generosity. " Work hard, play hard," is an excellent motto at all times, but especially in the summer, when most people doubtless feel tempted to sacrifice the work of the class-room te the more congenial business of sport. We hope and believe
