In other words it's Spring, and Editors, together with all other good men, should feel happy and well-disposed towards mankind. But -we feel neither happy nor welldisposed towards mankind. We are unhappy because this Vigornian, on which we have spent labour unceasing, time infinite, thought inconceivable and even, at times, love, as a mother to her child, over which we have burnt midnight oil and spilt Swan ink, has turned out a disappointment. We had visions of a wonderful literary triumph, of a magazine brilliant with innumerable gems of wit and literary genius, poetry and prose. A magazine on which all could look back and say, " Do you remember that Vigornian of March, 1927? Wasn't it excellent?" But those hopes are shattered. Our castle of dreams is vanished and we are come to earth before the crude reality. We may fairly claim to have recorded with minute accuracy all the events of the term. But our ambition had taught us to hope for something more than mere accuracy, the automatic recording of events. We had hoped to inspire the Vigornian with some sort of character of its own. As it is, it has about as much of a character of its own as a tradesman's circular. But perhaps we are too embittered by the rude shattering of our ambitious hopes. Anyhow we feel that the lack of original contributions is due to you. We have approached innumerable
