The news we have to chronicle is of a by no means startling character, and is little likely to upset the mental balance of our readers.

The centre of our thoughts and hopes during the term was of course the boat race, of which an account will be found elsewhere. After last year's victory at Hereford our hopes of repeating the performance ran high; but as will be seen, we were doomed to disappointment. The rowing, as a whole, however, may be regarded as distinctly encouraging, a large number of recruits shewing promising form, and should do the School good service in years to come. After the excitement of the boat race had worn off, the annual sports called for our attention. This year the old practice of holding them during the Easter term was resumed with good results. The prominent feature was the largely increased number of entries, especially for the junior events. For the half-mile handicap there were more than fifty entries, which we believe constitutes a record. Good times were rendered impossible by the heavy state of the ground, which had not fully recovered frjm the effects of the flood, and was made still heavier by several wet days immediately preceding the races. Nevertheless, though we had no Bates to break records for us, the times as a whole were very
