(EMtorial. £LAS ! tot jam labentibus annis. Michaelmas term is here again, and, as usual, we miss many old faces. In School life, however, we must always bear in mind the time-honoured maxim, "Welcome the coming, speed the parting guest," and this term it is our pleasant duty to welcome a greater addition to our numbers than usual, which promises well for the future prosperity of the School. Mr. Chappel has now been with us a year, and we must all agree that he has come through the difficulties which invariably attend a new regime most success-

fully : for during this period he has ever kept the welfare of the School before him, and has gained the respect and goodwill of everyone with whom he has come in contact. Last term was an exciting one in many respects: first and foremost there was the Diamond Jubilee which we celebrated right loyally; some of us went up to town, while the less fortunate ones enjoyed the local celebration, which quite upheld the reputation of the Faithful City. An event which, however, more nearly concerned ourselves was the certificate campaign, which, by the by, is now undertaken annually: this we came out of fairly well, although we could have wished to see a better result in the Lower certificate, but—Dis aliter visum. Early last term we received a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Bolland, and our only regret was that it was so short; before leaving us, however, Mr. Bolland gave a practical proof of his kindness by asking Mr. Chappel for an extra day's holiday at the Jubilee. We hope that we shall see more of them in the early future. Compared with last year, our cricket season was not, on the whole, a success, but at the end of the
