(Editorial. the beginning of last term the outlook for the Rowing Club was not of the brightest. Only one of last year's " four" was left, and the numbers were small. This latter defect however was soon remedied, and the club started early in the term with a fairly good attendance. There was considerable promise in some of the new members and commendable keenness, but some fellows seemed to be under the delusion that they came down to enjoy themselves, and made no attempt to follow the

instruction of the coaches. Our thanks are due to the Rev. W. G. Melville who again this year took the " four" in hand. After a week or two of vigorous " tubbing" he got them together in the boat, and coached them untiringly till the time of the race. It was certainly no fault of his that we were not victorious. Looking forward to next year there ought to be material for a fairly good "four," and if only more fellows join the club and throw themselves into it we shall have a successful season. The cricket season is fully reviewed in another column, so that very little comment is required here. But we venture to remark that in our humble opinion the view taken by the writer of the cricket article is far too pessimistic; it may be true that the fielding of the eleven is not all that can be desired, but it surely does not need such strong comments as the article affords; and he might have mentioned that it has improved considerably in the last few matches, shewing that the way in which the team has practised has had its good effects. However we hope that the team will appreciate the enormity of their chief fault, and resolve by constant practice to eradicate it.
