WHAT DOES BLACK AMERICA AND THE 12 DISCIPLES OF JESUS HAVE IN COMMON? BY TITUS BANKS
Jesus came in a time when people were really sick, not only physically but spiritually and mentally. They were sick of the feeling of defeat. Sick of not enjoying the freedom of being able to enjoy their life how they deemed fit as a people. They were always given certain freedom at a price and rather they liked it or not; that price was always unfair. Whom am I talking about you may ask yourself? The Jews or Black America. It is obvious ain't it? The Jews knew suffering on so many levels and I’m not trying to count them out ( for my well-studied bible scholars Romans 11:19-24) I understand that we are giving grace only because of the hardened hearts of God’s chosen people. So what I’m explaining is that Black America has experienced suffering on many levels also, In this day in age we still have people without education but are very smart. We have people who are a part of zealous interest groups that are fighting for equal opportunity in a country that shows partiality.
You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” 20 Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but tremble. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either. Romans 11:19-24 We have even traitors to the blacks that are in America trying to make progress- yes the dope dealers, the gangbangers, even the sold-out brothers and sisters who become rich but fail to help other blacks rise up out of the ghettos, yes they are traitors helping the same force that oppose the blacks in America progression. What can we do to change what is going on in America, how can we turn the page on this side of history and enter the promise that God gave to Dr. King jr.? The only answer is to pray because only God can solve a problem this big. We need to pray and be on one accord in faith and as Jesus came at a time when people were sick and tired so shall our time of true freedom will come.

Most of us heard about the life of the closest followers of Jesus, the inner circle of our Lord is very diverse, some were just fishermen with no prior education, others were apart of zealous interests groups fighting for the Jewish people freedom, others were seen as traitors to their own people morals and standards; serving a government of the foreigners who ruled over them. All and all the things that these disciples and Black America have in common was the struggle to find their identity in a new way of life and make progress in a world that was against their progression. When Jesus came; it was a new life that came with Him. You could say it was the same as the emancipation coming for the blacks in America. You had to have a lot of courage to live a new life that was laid out for you so perfectly with an opposing force, constantly present, who would be violently against you walking into this life of heartfelt promises.
