The use of the panel attachment on this facade inspired me to create a similar method on the building that I created. The use of the facade on this for shading had me discovering transparency differences with solar influence & advantages.

Historical Architectural

architectural concept: Therapeutic biophilic design

This project proposes the thesis of Therapeutic Biophilic Design, creating improved sensed based transparency in both indoor/outdoor areas. Therapeutic Biophilic Design brings natural light for brightening and lifting moods, to the placement of greenery for reducing anxiety through the connection with nature, to the use of water elements, where architecture creates a healing atmosphere. Therapeutic Biophilic Design emphasizes the opportunity to create calm and healing spaces that interlock with each other; balance transparency within separation, and establish connection within isolation. The material utilization is the key in connecting inhabitants with nature, guiding humans through architecture as nature guides humans through itself, tying humanity back to our origin. Let the dynamic of space guide inhabitants through the evocation of emotions, senses, and thoughts.

BIOPHILIC ATRIUMS:

This biophilic atrium brings nature into the heart of the building, using layered greenery, palm trees, and water features to create a cool, shaded microclimate.

In Taiwan’s humid environment, the open-air courtyard allows for natural ventilation, improving indoor air quality and comfort. The dense planting helps reduce heat buildup, while visual and physical access to nature supports well-being and productivity. This space blurs the line between indoors and outdoors, offering both a functional climate strategy and a calming, restorative experience for occupants.

This building uses green hanging plants along the slab edges as a key part of its facade strategy. In the humid environment of Taiwan, these plants help cool the building passively by shading the walls and windows from direct sunlight. The dense greenery acts like a living screen, reducing solar heat gain while also allowing airflow through the facade. This approach blends nature with architecture, improving thermal comfort, reducing cooling loads, and softening the appearance of the concrete structure with a lush, breathable envelope.

Connectivity Between Hotel & Plaza:

The NMMST VISION HALL is situated in the picturesque Badouzi Harbor of Keelung, Taiwan, aims to create a vibrant mixed-use development that integrates hospitality, commerce, and education. Nestled amid the harbor’s natural beauty and cultural richness, the project will include a contemporary hotel, retail spaces to encourage both local and international trade, and educational facilities to promote knowledge and cultural exchange. The development is designed to become a prominent landmark in Keelung, boosting tourism, supporting local enterprises, and offering educational opportunities within a lively waterfront setting.

Programmatic Zoning & Spatial Connectivity:

This building captures the seamless integration of programmatic zoning and spatial connectivity in the design. The left side of the building houses hotel accommodations, while the right side features cultural and retail functions. Both are visually and physically linked through lush terraces and green corridors, ensuring intuitive circulation. A central biophilic plaza acts as a shared public space that connects front and back entrances, reinforcing access, cohesion, and interaction between distinct programs while maintaining a unified experience for users throughout the site.
