At Brittney Cares, our mission is to support families and individuals facing extraordinary challenges. Recently, we had the honor of providing assistance to Tanea S. Williams, a courageous mother, nurse, and community hero.
Tanea is a 30-year-old Registered Nurse and a devoted single mother to her three-year-old son, Daniel. After giving birth, she developed Peripartum Cardiomyopathy, which caused severe heart failure. This was followed by a stroke that required months of hospitalization.
Despite ongoing heart failure, Tanea returned to work as a Hospice RN, caring for others while supporting her young son. In March 2025, her condition worsened, and she suffered a second stroke. She underwent lifesaving LVAD surgery while awaiting a heart transplant.
Today, Tanea is making steady progress. She is actively participating in speech therapy and cardiac rehabilitation, focusing on recovery and regaining her strength with the goal of returning to work. Her determination, resilience, and unwavering love for her son are truly inspiring.
Recently, , we were honored to help the Slowinski family, who recently lost nearly everything in a devastating house fire. The family faced unimaginable loss. Cars, credit cards, household items, and cherished personal belongings were all destroyed. Despite the challenges, the Slowinski family has shown incredible strength and humility. They are a family of eight children, six of whom are adopted, and one older child with autism. Their resilience in the face of such hardship is inspiring.
At Brittney Cares, we were grateful for the opportunity to provide support to help them take their first steps toward recovery. The generosity of our community ensures that families like the Slowinskis do not face these challenges alone.
BRITTNEYCARES
Recently, we made a donation to the Wright family, whose daughter McCall has Dravet syndrome, a rare and severe form of epilepsy. The family spent Thanksgiving at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, yet their resilience continues to inspire those around them. McCall was born healthy in 2018, but at four months old experienced her first seizure. More followed, leading to hundreds over time that resisted multiple medications. In 2020, she required up to ten seizure medications and was ultimately placed in a medically induced coma to allow her body to rest. This was especially frightening as her mother was eight months pregnant. Thankfully, McCall emerged from the coma days later without further seizures. Though she temporarily lost abilities like walking and swallowing, intensive therapy has helped her regain many essential functions, greatly improving her quality of life.
42 year old Tracy Fernelius started feeling weak and tired, much more than usual. After a long illness and many doctors, tests, hospital stays, and medications, she has a diagnosis and it’s not a good one at all. She’s in full, end-stage heart failure. She’s had a Barostim device implanted in her chest to help her heart beat but it isn’t working as hoped. This is only a short-term fix as she will need to be put on LVAD or have a heart transplant in the coming months.Her journey is filled with strength, faith, and resilience. And while the road ahead isn’t easy, we are grateful to stand beside her and her family during this critical time.
Recently, we had the opportunity to extend a helping hand to April and Cody Powell, whose home was tragically lost in a fire. While everyone including their beloved dogs was safe, the family was understandably shaken by the experience. The Powells were spending time with family at their farm when the fire started. Thanks to quick-acting neighbors, their chickens, rabbits, and cats were saved. Even amidst this hardship, the magic of the holiday season was not lost. Santa still visited, ensuring the Powell children experienced the joy of Christmas.
Brittney Cares was honored to provide support to the Powell family during this difficult time. We are humbled and inspired by the outpouring of love from our local community.
They continue to be amazed by the generosity and kindness that has come from friends, family, and even strangers. As they work to sort through donations and plan their next steps, the Powell family is deeply touched by the care and encouragement they have received. The Powells shared a message of faith and hope reflecting the spirit of our community:“We have felt God’s love all through this process and He has been our comfort and strength. We have seen His love over and over again through all of you. We plan to thank each of you individually for all that you have done for us. We are forever grateful and will make every effort to pay your kindness forward.”
