CBAS? CBAS?
The Community-Based Accountability System (CBAS) is a locally developed framework, incorporating seven pillars (see below), that goes beyond the traditional state accountability measures to evaluate the performance of a school district. It focuses on holistic and meaningful outcomes by emphasizing areas such as student growth, teacher effectiveness, community engagement, and overall well-being. CBAS reflects our Kilgore Bulldog community's values and priorities, ensuring that we remain aligned with the unique needs of its students, families, and stakeholders.

We are excited to introduce our students to the opportunity to begin advanced-level courses early, building skills and confidence that prepare them for college, technical programs, and career pathways.

The Math League is a club offered to all Kilgore Intermediate students who have previously scored in the Master’s level on their STAAR test in 2025. Mrs. Slayter, KIS Principal, works with students before school each week to build their math skills and extend their learning through enrichment and higher-level thinking.

KILGORE HIGH KILGORE HIGH SCHOOL SCHOOL UIL UIL McKayla Holland is on her 4th trip to UIL Academic Regionals for journalism.Competing in News Writing, Headline Writing, Feature Writing, and Editorial Writing, and advanced to region in all events. She earned her third district championship medal in 4 years in Feature Writing. In speaking events, Sydney Freed is an alternate to region in Poetry, and Seth Hardin advanced to Region. Ivy Dowell is alternate to region, and James Jarman is the Prose District Champion. The Academic team has 5 sponsors and 30 active participants. It was our first year competing in UIL Congressional Debate. We had 7 active team members and took 5 to region. Mckayla Holland broke into the final round and placed 8th overall District 16-4A event Current Issues and Events: Angel Martinez Placed 6th Literary Criticism: Seth Hardin 6th place, James Jarman 5th place, Hayden Rowe 3rd place and is a regional qualifier. The District Champion with a score of 80 (the HIGHEST 4A SCORE IN THE ENTIRE STATE OF TEXAS WAS Breleigh Warlick Kilgore earned First place team and REGION FOR THE FOURTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR.

The House System at Chandler Elementary creates a positive, family-like culture where every student belongs and is celebrated. March Madness March Madness Attendance Attendance “Attendance is very important at Chandler, so to encourage students to be at school, we created an attendance competition inspired by NCAA March Madness. Classrooms are seeded based on the previous quarter’s attendance percentages, and winners are recognized in 2nd grade, 3rd grade, and overall growth for classes that improve the most. Each Monday, we share a video updating the standings and reinforcing the importance of attendance for student success.” -Meghan Daniels, CES Assistant Principal
E-Sports at Kilgore High School gives students the opportunity to compete in organized team-based gaming while developing communication, strategic thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. With more than 200 colleges and universities offering e-sports programs and scholarships, students can pursue college opportunities and growing careers in broadcasting, marketing, graphic design, multimedia, hospitality, coaching, and management.

Orchestra 17 students made All Region Orchestra 3 students made All Area 12 students medaled at Solo & Ensemble with a Superior rating 9 students advancing to state with their solos Ragin’ Red Band Seth Hardin won 2nd chair string bass, Brianna Tucker won 30th chair clarinet and Adriel Torres earned 7th chair clarinet. The band also had 22 students qualify for the state solo and ensemble competition making it the largest number of students to advance in many years. Students earned a first division on a class one solo or ensemble.

Boomtown Players Theatre Department UIL OAP Epic Proportions Tabatha Gibson and Alysa Napier honor tech crew Damian Strachan and James Jarman honorable mention all Star cast James Jarman and Vivienne Wright all Star cast Boomtown Players has produced 5 full productions, 2 of them being 2 act shows. 3 of the productions were directed by 3 seniors, Breleigh Warlick, Symphony Forbus, and Seth Hardin. 37 individual students were in these productions and every cast had at least one new student involved for the first time! Breleigh Warlick is going to Kilgore college to pursue theatre and earned a $5000 scholarship. 5 students earned letter jackets this year with OAP participation. There are 50 members in the Boomtown theatre club. Arts Leslie Thurston placed 1st out of 386 artworks for the 66th Annual Student Invitational at the Longview Art Museum (Photo in the background) Three KHS Senior artworks displayed at Kilgore College in the Anne Dean Turk Fine Arts Center for a period of time. Out of all the 23 Artworks that were entered for the Regional/Area competition for VASE competition, 15 made Regionals. Abby Campbell made Area and Qualified for State.

ENGAGED & WELL-ROUNDED Students Football Back-to-Back State Finalist- 2024, 2025 3-Peat District 9-4A District Champs- 2023, 2024, 2025 30 Players Named Academic All-District 14 Players Named Academic All-State State Finalist in the Nation Football Foundation Team Academic Excellence Award Cheer Placed 16th at the UIL competition out of 70+ teams! We are the only East Texas team to make finals. Girls Basketball Our girls Basketball team made playoffs for the 1st time in 5 years. We had the Co-District MVP (Serenity Oliver), doubled our win tally this year in comparison to last year, and competed with some of the best teams in the state. Our varsity team keept a grade average of above 3.0. 1st team: Makeiya Williams 2nd team: Makaylah Jackson Honorable Mention: Skye Hunt & Malea White (Both received votes for 2nd team recognition) Academic All-District: Makieya Williams, Makaylah Jackson, Skye Hunt, Alyson Lacy, Aamiyah Williams Volleyball The team more than doubled last year’s win total and finished the season with over 20 wins, showing tremendous growth, determination, and teamwork throughout the year. One of the highlights of the season was a strong performance at the Tyler High Tournament, where the team competed well and earned a 2nd place finish in the Silver Bracket. Individually, Elle reached an impressive milestone by surpassing 1,000 career assists, a testament to her leadership and consistency as our setter. Girls Golf From the first tournament of the season to the last one each golfer has lowered their score by about ten strokes Our team just shot our best score of 415 in our last tournament. The girls are constantly striving to get better and working towards their goals. Bulldog Food Pantry opened in the first week of November in response to the Government shutdown and SNAP Benefits being taken away from families. Since that time, there have been over 2,000 visits to the pantry after school by KHS students. The KHS Student Council keeps the pantry running by helping to get the word out about needs via social media and also by organizing the food and making snack bags daily. More than 9,000 food items have been given away since the pantry opened.

During the Fall of 2025, Kilgore ISD partnered with SFA to allow interns to complete their student teaching with the district while being compensated for their services to our campuses. After their completion, Kilgore ISD hired 3 of the 5 interns for full-time positions within the district.

During the 88th Legislative Session, House Bill 3 was passed to establish a requirement that each district employee who regularly interacts with students enrolled at the district complete an evidence-based mental health training program. KISD has 90% of their staff trained to assist, recognize, and support children and youth who may experience a mental health or substance use issue that may pose a threat to school safety.

The Kilgore Independent School District (KISD) participates in the Texas Summer Meals Program, providing free, nutritious meals to children during the summer months. The district serves breakfast and lunch at no charge to kids up to age 18 and to students with disabilities up to age 21 as part of federally supported summer meal efforts. Families simply visit participating meal sites at designated schools when the program is running — no registration or income qualification is required. Meals typically begin in late May or early June at locations like Kilgore Primary School and others around the district, helping ensure children in the community have access to healthy food when school is out.

KISD School Nutrition won a TDA BEST OF THE BUNCH local award for serving local beef, produce & other Texas products!
Farm Fresh Culinary Grant Awardee: School Professionals will attend a week long training at the Culinary Institute of America in San Antonio in July 2026.
Sources of Strength is a peer-led wellness and prevention program designed to strengthen protective factors, build connections, and promote positive mental health and help-seeking behaviors. At the KHS campus, trained student leaders and adult mentors work together to build a supportive school culture and connect students with trusted resources and positive influences.
CharacterStrong is a schoolwide approach designed to strengthen character, build meaningful relationships, and support students’ social-emotional development. The program provides staff with practical strategies and lessons that promote skills such as empathy, responsibility, perseverance, respect, and leadership. It also emphasizes creating a positive, connected school culture where students feel valued, supported, and equipped to succeed both academically and personally. All K–8 staff members have been enrolled in CharacterStrong training. KMS staff piloted the program and helped implement it, providing valuable insight as the district expands the initiative across K–8 campuses.
