Will rolling hills be rezoned? Amy Molloy “Attention! Can you see your house? If so, you are about to lose your rolling hill sunsets.” This was the first line of a passionate plea posted by local resident Ash Boreland

on the Kiama Community Facebook page on the final week of a public exhibition for a rezoning proposal. The local mum of two is joining the voices of residents living around the Saddleback area, who are protesting the rezoning of 2 Caliope Street, Kiama.

A planning proposal was placed on public exhibition for the month of May to “amend the Kiama LEP 2011 to rezone 2 Calliope Street, Kiama (Lot 672 DP 1308222).” Previously, the lot was zoned for RU2 Rural Landscape and C2 EnvironmentalConservation.

restore and protect the site’s biodiversity including the Illawarra Zieria and areas of Illawarra Subtropical Rainforest,” states the proposal literature. However, many residents are against the amendment – and they’re voicing their displeasure. Continued on page 5
