This selection of photographs showcases the puppetry and design fabrication work of Greg Corbino. A true “Work in Progress,” this creative process took place over an approximately five-week period, and demonstrates the magic behind how these works of art were created inhouse here at the Shaw Festival.

Branden Jacobs-Jenkins Director
SHAW 2026: Director for A New Work in Progress; 1st season. Branden Jacobs-Jenkins is a writer and theatre artist whose plays include Purpose, The Comeuppance, Girls, Everybody, War, Gloria, Appropriate, An Octoroon and Neighbors. He is a Professor in the Practice of Theater and Performance Studies at Yale University and serves as Vice President of the Dramatists Guild council. He has been the recipient of two Tony Awards, a Pulitzer Prize, the MacArthur Fellowship, the Windham-Campbell Prize for Drama, and the inaugural Tennessee Williams Award.
Kimberley Rampersad
Associate Director
SHAW 2026: Asscoiate Director for A New Work in Progress, Ohio State Murders, Director for Perfect Pairings, Director/Choreographer for Cinderella; 11th season. In Grade 3 my music teacher Ms. McRorie cast me as Goldilocks in Goldilocks and the Three Bears. In middle school Mr. Olafson’s art room became my de facto home room. In high school, Mr. Zalis taught me about life through music. The River East School Division in Winnipeg, Manitoba gave me one of the best arts educations anyone could ever have. Along with my dance teacher, Mrs. Daurie, and my choir master, Mr. Greig, these adults were surrogate parents, who nurtured the artist in me and have led me to this place. I could never thank them enough for what they have given me.
Tatiana Kalaigian Kahvegian
Set Designer
SHAW 2026: A New Work in Progress; 1st season. Tatiana Kahvegian is a Tonynominated scenic designer based in Brooklyn, NY. Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, selected credits include Meet the Cartozians at Second Stage, the Broadway adaptation of The Outsiders (co-designed with Christine Jones and Brett Banakis as part of the collective AMP), Tom & Eliza at TUTA, and Give Me Carmelita Tropicana! at Soho Rep (co-designed with Mimi Lien).

A.W. Nadine Grant
Costume Designer
SHAW 2026: Costume Designer for A New Work in Progress; 2nd season. I grew up in the small town of Cookstown, Ontario. My first drama experience was at the Little Theatre there, where my brother and I were cast in a production of South Pacific. After a failed audition for the role of Puck, my high school drama teacher, Mrs Alderman gave me my first costume design and lit the spark. I’ve been blessed to have some amazing teachers and mentors along the way, such as Lindsay Davis, Sarah Oliver, Rick Rees, Paul Tazewell, Philip Boutte Jr, and Reggie Ray. After many years in the States, my family returned home and we currently live in Waterloo – near the University where I serve as Head of Wardrobe. This is my second show at Shaw, but you may have seen my previous work here in The Amen Corner or at Stratford in Dangerous Liaisons, Little Women, Serving Elizabeth, or Volcano’s Treemonisha.

Bray Poor Sound Designer
SHAW 2026: Sound Designer for A New Work In Progress; 1st season. I’m thrilled to be at The Shaw and working with this incredible team. I’ve been inspired by some of these old friends for years in the US, and now by these fantastic Canadian artists I’m getting to know. What a dream.
Isabella Byrd Lighting Designer
SHAW 2026: Lighting Designer for A New Work In Progress, 1st season. I’m a multiaward winning lighting designer for live performance, based in Brooklyn, NY and originally from Houston, TX. My design work focuses on developing new works and reigniting classics. I hope my designs activate elemental layers in stories, heightening our listening and empathy. My work has been seen on Broadway, Off-Broadway, across America, and in the UK. My honours include three Tony nominations, three Lortel Awards, two Obies, a Henry Hewes Design Award, Drama Desk Special Award, and an Olivier nomination. I am a proud USA829 union member, supporting pay equity and sustainability. www.isabellabyrd.design
Greg Corbino
Puppet Design & Fabrication
SHAW 2026: Puppet Designer for A New Work in Progress; 1st season. Greg Corbino is an Obie Award-winning puppet designer whose work has been described as “gorgeously baroque” by The New Yorker, “crafty and audacious” by The New York Times, and “beyond the simply daffy” by New York Magazine. His Off-Broadway puppet design credits include It’s That Time of the Month, Soho Rep (Obie Award); Heaux Church, Ars Nova; Give Me Carmelita Tropicana, Soho Rep (Henry Hewes Design Award); and The Great Privation at Playwrights Horizons. Recent large-scale outdoor puppetry commissions include The Pachyderm Parade, PAC NYC; Labor of Love, Doris Duke Foundation/Lower Manhattan Cultural Council; and The Fish Migration Celebration, a 60-nautical-mile voyage featuring a monumental Atlantic sturgeon puppet mounted aboard a 64’ schooner. Greg Corbino lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Instagram: @greg.corbino
SHAW 2026: Amadeus, A New Work in Progress; 8th season. I’m happy to return to the Shaw Festival. Some favourites from previous seasons include The Amen Corner, Sweeney Todd, The Magician’s Nephew and Peter and the Starcatcher. I went to a performing arts high school in Newmarket, then to Sheridan College; both programs brought me to The Shaw to see shows. I still remember my anticipation, excitement, and the grin that covered my face, when the house lights dimmed or when the overture began – feelings that still bubble up today. Being an artist in this company, on this stage, is a young student’s dream turned reality. I’m thankful for all arts educators and contributors; also, for my creative, diverse, loving and supportive pillars on- and off-stage.
SHAW 2026: Funny Girl, A New Work in Progress; 2nd season. Born and raised in Toronto, but my professional career began in Calgary, AB, where I met my most cherished artistic influence and mentor, the late Kathleen Foreman. She introduced me to Performance Creation and Devising, shaping my process as a storyteller and an educator, but it was her warmth and generosity as a leader that continues to inform how I show up in a room and for other artists. Two of my favourite theatrical experiences have been under the direction of The Shaw’s Associate Artistic Director, the incomparable Kimberley Rampersad, in The Amen Corner (The Shaw) and The Color Purple (Neptune/Citadel/RMTC). Next up on my dream role list is to play Fantine in Les Misérables. It was the very first musical I saw. I was 10. I left the Royal Alex in Toronto knowing that this is what I would do with my life.

SHAW 2026: A New Work in Progress, Amadeus; 8th season. Born in Cap-Haïtien, Haiti, I immigrated to America with my mother in search of greater opportunities. Like many immigrant parents, my mom dreamed of a traditional future for me — one rooted in stability, perhaps as a doctor or lawyer. But everything changed in grade school when I made my theatrical debut riding a green skateboard in Runaways by Elizabeth Swados. Although my mother did not attend the performance and initially dismissed my artistic ambitions, that night became a turning point in my life. Standing before a cheering audience and receiving a standing ovation awakened something in me I could not ignore. The exhilaration I felt on stage gave me purpose, confidence, and direction. From that moment forward, I became determined not only to pursue the arts, but to prove that my passion could become my future.
André Morin Prince
SHAW 2026: A New Work in Progress, Ohio State Murders; 5th season. I grew up in a little place called Read, which is north of a medium place called Belleville; however, at the moment, I live farther north than Read on a farm in Tweed – it all rhymes and that’s just fine. I live up there with my partner Daniel and our dog Biscuit. Biscuit is a border collie and he’s too smart for his own good, but he’s a loveable scamp so that’s all right. Enjoy the show!
David Andrew Reid
Older Step-Sibling
SHAW 2026: A New Work in Progress, Amadeus; 6th season. My artistry is influenced by two Jamaicans who are now with the divine: my grandfather (one of the island’s most renowned tenors), also named David Reid, and my dance teacher, Tony Wilson. I performed my first musical when I was sixteen at the Jamaica Musical Theatre Company (my grandfather was a founding member) and the resident choreographer was Mr Wilson, who invited me to train and perform with his dance company two years later. So before I moved to Canada to study theatre at Sheridan College, in Jamaica I juggled my full-time university management degree, community theatre and a dance company for four years. My mother joked that I majored in extracurricular activities. Those extracurricular activities have blossomed into a wonderful career and life in Canada. Instagram @davidandrewreid

SHAW 2026: A New Work in Progress, Amadeus, Cinderella; 1st season. I am very humbled to be invited to The Shaw this year. It has been a dream of mine for a while. I was born in Scarborough, ON. I have been surrounded and embraced by music and all forms of art since I was a child listening to Anita Baker’s Rapture in a 2006 Volvo. For as long as I can remember, theatre has been my therapy, my escape and my meditation. I have been doing it since the age of 13 and maybe even before then, if I count the many times I was a secret agent or Power Ranger in my parents’ basement as a kid. The stage and the playground of my mind has always made sense and has always had chemistry. For anyone who read all of this, you rock! Thank you for coming to see live art and thank you for allowing a kid from Scarborough to play professional dress up.
Sophia Walker Godmother
SHAW 2026: A New Work in Progress, Ohio State Murders; 3rd season. I am a Torontobased actor. My first theatre experience was a class trip in elementary school to see a touring performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which I never forgot. For high school, I attended Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts to take my imagination and dream of acting to a real profession. Ms O’Brien, my high school drama teacher, helped me apply to Ryerson University; and upon graduation from Ryerson, going straight into the Birmingham Conservatory at Stratford Festival harnessed my craft and catapulted me into years of amazing work and opportunities. I still think of Djanet Sears and our production of Harlem Duet as one of my favourite shows of my career. I feel so blessed to have worked so much and to have had all of these amazing experiences that have brought me here.

Lisa Russell Stage Manager/Production Stage Manager
SHAW 2026: Stage Manager for A New Work in Progress, Production Stage Manager; 2nd season. Originally from Calgary, I started my professional career 30 years ago at the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton and have worked in events, dance, theatre, and musical theatre across Canada. My first trip to NOTL was to cheer on the Stratford cricket team (sorry!) at the annual Shaw/Stratford cricket match over 20 years ago and I am very happy to now be a part of the stage management team at the Shaw Festival. With the move to NOTL, I have also been able to further my pursuit of a more recent passion by setting up a home pottery studio with the dream of one day becoming a full-time potter.
Liz King Assistant Stage Manager
SHAW 2026: A New Work in Progress, Amadeus; 1st season. In 2010 after graduating from my technical theatre program I did what I think many 22-year-olds do when finishing school – panic. Maybe I didn’t want to pursue theatre after all. Maybe it would be too hard. Maybe I needed something that felt more stable. I moved back to my hometown to take some time, work at a Dairy Queen, travel a bit, and considered maybe going back to school to be a teacher. I spent a month in Australia and saw a production of Twelfth Night by Bell Shakespeare at the Sydney Opera House. It was extraordinary. I left weeping because I realized if I didn’t even try to pursue theatre I would never get to work on something that felt as important as that show. I came home, quit Dairy Queen, and started working as a stage manager. That was 16 years ago. Thank you for coming to and supporting live theatre!
Annie McWhinnie Assistant Stage Manager
SHAW 2026: Assistant Stage Manager for A New Work In Progress, Funny Girl; 18th season. Musicals were always my favourite growing up. Watching the talented triple threat performers create magical worlds with music and dancing. I started stage managing through a co-op program in high school and continued by studying Theatre Production at Humber College. My most influential training has come from the many talented stage managers I have worked with over the years. I have enjoyed working on many productions throughout my years at the Shaw Festival. Some of my favourites include Sunday in the Park with George, Maria Severa, Cabaret, Anything Goes and One Man, Two Guvnors.
Leigh McClymont
Associate Production Stage Manager
SHAW 2026: Associate Production Stage Manager, Stage Manager for Jeeves & Wooster in Perfect Nonsense; 18th season. I hail from small-town Southern Ontario, but since completing my Bachelor of Honours Drama at the University of Waterloo I have worked all over Canada. Niagara-on-the-Lake has been my home base for 17 years and I always love how early spring flowers bloom here and how it signals the return to rehearsals and loads of life at the Festival. I love delving into the intellectual work of the plays we do here or being in music and choreography rehearsals with so many incredibly talented people. It’s hard not to love your workday when it’s filled with singing, dancing and tons of laughter.

There is an artist inside each of us. It is the essence of our shared humanity. But the world today has our heads down and our minds distracted. We are losing the ability to talk to each other, to look each other in the eye, to find solutions together.
