LPD: Kentucky man mistook Advil for

AKentucky man visiting Lyndhurst had a little bit of trouble telling the difference between Advil and suspected amphetamine — and it all led to his arrest late last week.
According to Lyndhurst Deputy Chief of Police Paul Haggerty:
On Friday, May 8, 2026 at 3 a.m., Officer Frank Ferrandino was on patrol in the area of Valley Brook and Livingston avenues when he observed a black two-door BMW with an inoperable driver’s side headlight and with no front license plate. A motor-vehicle stop was conduct-
driver was gathering his driving credentials, Officer Ferrandino observed Nicholas C. Dubinin, 18, of Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, in the passenger seat not wearing a seat belt.
Sgt. Nicholas Abruscato and Officer Anthony Giaquinto arrived on scene to assist as backup. While Giaquinto was standing on the passenger side of the black BMW, he says he observed a small plastic bag consistent with CDS packaging material underneath the passenger’s armrest. PO Giaquinto questioned
the driver and Dubinin regarding the plastic bag. The driver retrieved the plastic bag and claimed it contained Advil.
The driver placed the plastic bag on the dashboard, where it was observed to contain 13 orange pills imprinted with b 974 and 30. The pills were later confirmed to be amphetamine and dextroamphetamine, a Schedule 2 controlled-dangerous substance.
When Abruscato told the driver (an 18-year-old Wayne man) and Dubi-
nin to exit the vehicle, a search returned one clear Ziploc bag containing a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine and one black scale, both of which were located under the front-passenger seat. Dubinin was charged with two counts possession of a controlled-dangerous substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Dubinin was provided his Central Judicial Processing notice to at the Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
