KAA students have achieved exceptional results at A level year on year, with grades consistently above the national average, 50% of students gaining places at top Russell Group universities, and a small number being offered places at Oxbridge each year. It is our expert teaching from subject specialists and personalised careers guidance that gives KAA this competitive edge and secures these outcomes for students; students enjoy consistently excellent lessons and careful guidance on their UCAS and apprenticeship applications. Whilst academic success is an essential element of life at KAA, we also recognise the need to develop each young person as an individual. It’s with this in mind that we provide a rich range of extra-curricular and super-curricular opportunities – enhancing CVs and personal statements, including our unique lecture series with visiting speakers from a range of sectors. This allows students to make the best applications to university, apprenticeships or employers. THE SIXTH FORM CURRICULUM

Opposite is a full list of A-level courses available to study at KAA. Students typically study three subjects, unless taking further maths or choosing four with a GCSE average point score of 7.0 or above. MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 8 GCSE grades at grade 5 or above (including both English language and maths).

SUBJECT SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS • English literature: grade 7 in literature and 6 in language. • Humanities: minimum grade 6 in the subject, if taken, and a 6 or above in English language and literature. • Maths: grade 7 or above in maths (grade 8 for further maths) • Science: triple award grade 7 or above in the science to be studied; dual award (combined science) grade 7-7 or above. Physics also requires a 7 in maths and should be taken alongside maths A-level. • Computer science: grade 6 or above in computer science or can demonstrate relevant coding experience. It should be taken alongside maths A-level. • Psychology: grade 6 or above in at least one science, plus grade 6 or above in English language. • Economics: grade 7 in maths and English language. It is recommended to take alongside maths A-level. • Physical education: grade 6 or above at GCSE PE.You must already be involved in playing a competitive sport at a school/county/regional/national standard.

We also accept the following qualifications and convert them as follows: • BTEC level 2 qualifications with L2M translating as grades 5-6. • IGCSE qualifications with grade B translating as grade 6 and grade A as grade 7. • International qualifications will be interpreted on a case-by-case basis.

Entry requirements can be discussed at the point of application.

From the very start of their time at KAA new sixth formers will be encouraged to look to their future. The sixth form at KAA is very much a bridge into university and the world of work and this starts from the first day you will spend in the academy. UNIVERSITY APPLICATIONS Our Higher Education team at KAA will work closely with all students to ensure early planning for university entrance. For example, the deadline for UCAS applications to Oxford and Cambridge is in the early autumn term of Year 13, meaning preparation must start early in Year 12. Each year we receive several Oxbridge offers and six students have successfully secured a place in the last three years. The choice of universities is wider than it has ever been (including overseas universities), so guidance through the complexities of the admissions process will be provided by experienced and supportive staff.

Alongside the core programme which offers students preparation for A-level and beyond, there a number of electives which students can take advantage of to develop themselves further. We offer teacher-led academic societies to go beyond the syllabus and step away from exam requirements. Some examples include Medicine Society, Law Society and Engineering Society. We encourage student-led societies and clubs which foster creativity and initiative. Some examples include African-Caribbean Society, Economics Magazine Society, and Architecture Society.There is also the opportunity for students to take an AS-level in modern foreign languages such as French, German or Spanish alongside their three A-levels. Home language A-levels are also encouraged. Further opportunities exist for student leadership in the Student Council or Prefect roles. Mentoring, tutoring, and supporting lower school lessons also feature as popular electives as well as acts of service in the local community and through the TimeGivers charity.

Intrepidus – our motto – is the unifying idea which binds all the aspects of our school community. Intrepidus is at our core: it is a simple, powerful ethos of aspiration and achievement. It has real meaning to all students, staff and parents alike. Intrepidus is about understanding that it’s always better to try and fail than to never try at all; that mistakes are an inevitable part of learning; and that with hard work and persistence we can master new skills in new subjects. At KAA all students and staff are a member of one of our four houses. The house system creates ‘schools within schools’ – smaller communities of students and staff that develop a sense of belonging, identity and healthy competition. The house system provides a focal point for academy events and rewards, and mixes all ages to allow older students to mentor their younger peers.

We are an ambitious, professional academy and this is reflected in our sixth form dress code. Smart, business dress is required – with suits of matching cloth, colour and pattern preferred. Trainers, T-Shirts, jeans etc are not allowed during school hours.

Opened in 2014 our beautiful building, and the nearby Kensington Leisure Centre, create a world class learning environment and we are extremely privileged to have it. We are fortunate to have our KAA facilities and put them to the service of our students. However, we also know the building alone is not the answer; it is the school’s values, our strong ethos, and our focus on curriculum, assessment and teaching and learning which are the keys to our success. Studying at KAA gives you the chance to spend two years studying in one of the greatest parts of London. KAA is just minutes from Portobello Road, Notting Hill Gate and Holland Park - three areas which are world famous for their shopping, parks, restaurants and culture. North Kensington is a vibrant, buzzing, creative community and here at KAA we are proud to be right at its heart.

KAA is proud to have the Performing and Creative Arts (PCA) as its specialism. We highly value Music, Dance, Drama, Art, Textiles, Food, and DT, and offer courses in all PCA subjects. As such, we have a thriving community of creative performers from Year 7 through to Year 13 who engage with our specialism and compete in House and national competitions. We also offer a wealth of enrichment opportunities, such as our annual West End Musical production, Christmas Pantomime, school dance troupes, Glee Club, pop band, Choir, and many more.

All students have access to our state-of-the-art facilities, including several rehearsal rooms with sprung floors, dedicated practice rooms, a recording studio, and our West End-standard theatre. Lessons are taught in small groups by specialist teachers, providing high-quality, personalised support. Students are encouraged to engage with our vibrant performance schedule and participate in regular workshops and masterclasses led by industry professionals.
