A Note from Dan Walker – Your General Manager
Spring has finally arrived, and the golf season is in full swing at Nemadji Golf Course.
New Clubhouse Improvements
We recently completed new concrete work in front of both the Pro Shop and the Clubhouse entrance. These improvements provide a cleaner appearance and safer access for all golfers and guests.
Tournament Season Begins
Our first major event of the season will take place on Saturday and Sunday, May 23rd & 24th with our popular Memorial Day Weekend Two-Man Tournament. We have added a new twist for this year’s format with a Horse Race on Sunday after all scores are in to crown this year’s Champions. We are looking forward to a great weekend of competitive golf and camaraderie. Best of luck to all participants! Call the Pro Shop to sign up your team.
Daily Course Etiquette & Policies
As play continues to increase, we ask all golfers to help us maintain the course and facilities by following these important guidelines:
Cart Policies
Remain on cart path at all times if the course is designated CART PATH ONLY
Nemadji GC is a 90 degree facility seven days a week for all cart traffic How the 90-Degree Rule Works
1.Keep your cart on the path until you reach a point even with your ball.
2.Turn Directly onto the fairway at a 90-degree angle to the path
3.drive straight to your ball.
4.After hitting your shot, return directly to the cart path by the shortest route.
5.Continue on the path until you reach the next players ball.
Why do we use 90 degree rule
Conditions are soft or turf needs protecting, reducing wear and tear on fairways. This also allows us to maintain overall turf health while still providing convenient access to golf balls.
Course Care
Repair all ball marks on the greens.
Rake all bunkers after use.
Fill in your divots with the sand provided in the golf carts. It is CART PATH ONLY on all of our Par 3’s.
Dispose of sunflower seed shells properly. Shells should never be left on greens, tees, fairways, or in golf carts.
Driving Range Courtesy
Pick up broken tees and any trash in your hitting stall
Return your range basket to the same bin from which you took it. If you take a cart to the driving range, never drive or park it on the range tee.
Daily Fee Golfers & Season Pass Holder Reminder.
All Golfers are required to check in with the Pro Shop even if you are a season pass holder. Please check in with a starter and show them your reciept

Butch Venne Junior Golf Tournament

Butch Venne was a long time season pass holder and ranger at Nemadji with a passion for Junior Golf. We unfortunately lost Butch in 2024. He and his family kindly donated funds to improve our premier Junior golf Tournament. We are looking to expand this tournament as well and love to get as many juniors signed up as possible.

Almost everything new and exciting is in the Golf Shop for the year! We sold over 36,000 balls last year and wanted to make sure we have plenty for this year. We have some clearance clubs from last year that are going out for a great price! Stop on in and check it out

A Note from the Greens View Grille
Hello from the Greens View Grille at Nemadji Golf Course!
As the golf season picks up, we’re excited to welcome a great group of new beverage cart attendants to the team this year. Be sure to say hello when you see them out on the course keeping everyone refreshed all season long!
We also want to remind everyone that this Friday will be our final Friday Fish Fry of the season. Stop in one last time for your favorite fish fry, homemade sides, and a great way to kick off the weekend.
Starting Memorial Day Weekend, our full on-course beverage service will officially be up and running, including both beverage carts and the Oasis. Whether you're making the turn or relaxing between holes, we’ll have you covered all summer long.
Thank you to everyone who joined us throughout the season for Fish Fry Fridays we appreciate the continued support and look forward to a great summer ahead at Greens View Grille. We still have our weekly specials going Mon-Thur.

Friday Fish Fry
Greens View Grille
Each Friday we have our Fish Fry from 12-8PM. We serve Wild Caught Alaskan Pollock with our in house breading, fries, and coleslaw.
This has become a favorite of many of our regulars. Stop out this week and try it!
Fish Fry will be going until the week of Memorial Day.

We wanted to start running a weekday promotion for the end of the winter for us to be your next stop for a weekday meal. We already have the fish fry and breakfast specials, but these will be sure to satisfy during the week. They will be available all summer long!!

We have also added a Soup of the Month going forward. This month is Chicken Wild Rice.
Add a grilled cheese as a side for only $3. This was our Soup for March as well but it has been quite the hit.
Superintendent Update

My first full season as Superintendent has come and gone, and I could not be happier with how things are shaping up. We survived another long Superior winter, and the golf course came through in wonderful condition. Our putting greens are healthy and continuing to improve every day. They may still be a touch on the slower side, but remember it’s only May.
The early season work you may have noticed around the course has been heavily focused on our tee boxes. We’ve been aerating, verticutting, and overseeding the areas that struggled coming out of winter. Now we just need a few warm overnight temperatures and a little help from Mother Nature, and we should continue to see everything green up nicely. In addition to the tee work, we’ve also been clearing underbrush and saplings that have started invading the areas surrounding several tee surfaces. This is a project we’ll continue throughout the season, as it will help improve sunlight exposure and create better long-term growing conditions for the turf.
Our maintenance staff continues to grow with some great new hires, but I especially want to recognize two young men who have really stepped up over the past year Jarrett Kallinen and Aaron Gergen. Both joined us last spring with previous golf course experience and have brought an incredible work ethic along with a genuine passion for the industry. Jarrett has stepped into the role of irrigation technician this season and has spent much of the spring repairing leaks and replacing sprinkler heads to ensure everything is operating properly heading into summer.
Aaron has taken over as our spray technician after passing his pesticide applicator’s test last fall. He handled our winter spraying program, and we owe him thanks for the strong earlyseason conditions we’re seeing today. Aaron also spent the winter continuing to develop his skills at Streamsong Resort, a KemperSports property in Florida, where he had the opportunity to learn from another superintendent and further sharpen his turf management and spraying knowledge.

Blatnik Bridge Project
We know a ton of golfers make their way to Nemadji from Duluth and we want to keep you updated on the Blatnik Bridge Project scheduled to start in 2026. While we don’t foresee any interruption to the 2026 golf season, we will make sure to keep you updated with all the relevant information and alternate routes to the golf course Construction for the aging bridge will take approximately four to five years, with Superior Mayor Jim Paine mentioning complete bridge closure by mid-2027.
Mayor Jim Paine says the city is going to make sure they’re not overburdening their citizens in any way unless absolutely necessary to get the project done on time and on budget.
Closing Thoughts
As we head into the heart of the golf season, I just want to personally thank everyone for the continued support of Nemadji Golf Course and the Greens View Grille. It’s exciting to finally see the course full again, the patio busy, and summer energy returning to the property.
Our staff has been working hard behind the scenes to make this season a great one, and we’re looking forward to everything still ahead from great golf and events to long summer nights at the Grille.
