I am writing to inform you about the current status of our golf greens and explain the need for the upcoming closure It is that time of year when we implement a rigorous treatment plan for the course turf The process of spraying the greens, tees and fairways for snow mold as well as top dressing the greens, tees and approaches is essential for a healthy and better playing conditions for the golf course in the spring. The greens will be closed for the remainder of the year starting Wednesday, November 19th and will reopen in the spring. Pins will be relocated to temporary positions in the approaches where play can continue.
I apologize for the inconvenience but emphasize that the closure is necessary for the long-term health and playability of the golf course. I am asking for member cooperation, by staying off the greens to help achieve the best results.
As cold weather sets in, traffic on the greens can cause damage to the turf
High traffic on soft, recovering, or recently treated greens can cause damage that takes a long time to heal
Over the next few weeks, we will be performing aggressive cultural practices, including spraying and top dressing the greens to improve turf quality for the long term
Please respect the green closures. Walking on greens when they are closed can cause significant and lasting damage
Avoid playing on soft areas of the course even when signs are not posted
The work we are doing now may cause some short-term inconvenience, but it is crucial for ensuring our course remains in excellent condition for the upcoming golf season. We are committed to providing you with the best possible playing surface, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation. We will keep you informed of our progress and the estimated timeline for the greens to reopen for regular play in the spring.
Thank you kindly
Benjamin Ludwig McHenry Golf Club Superintendent
