As the seasons shift and cooler days set in, fall invites our Holly Hills Team to reconnect with warmth, comfort, and deep, earthy flavors It’s a time when the kitchen becomes a place of reflection and creativity, drawing inspiration from the harvest. One of the season’s true staples, butternut squash, offers both versatility and richness, making it a favorite ingredient of mine this time of year In this issue, we’re sharing a recipe that embodies the essence of autumn: a silky, aromatic Butternut Squash Soup, perfect for showcasing seasonal produce at its peak.

Dear Member,
I can’t believe how fast this summer flew by I hope everyone had the opportunity to enjoy the great events we had this year. The Memorial Day Hilltop Celebration, Sunday Fundays at the Pool, Summer Sizzle and Sounds, 4 of July Pool Party, Crab Fest, Pool Bingo, Trivia Nights, National Pickleball Day and Pickleball Socials. The golf calendar was filled with great events including themed Couples Golf, Operation 36, Ladies Game Night, PGA Junior League, Tuesday Night Men’s League, B-Team, Little Tykes and Junior Golf Camps, and the Junior Club Championship. Keep your eyes open for some new great fall events for everyone.

Thank you to Dan and his team for providing fantastic course conditions throughout the summer. It was the second most humid summer on record that was accompanied with extended periods of high temperatures The shorter days and cooler nights have been great for the course, and hopefully we will get a little rain mixed in through the fall that will create perfect growing conditions.
I would like to thank all the parents and volunteers of our Holly Hills Hurricanes Swim Team who made the season a great success We hosted two home meets this year and getting the pool ready requires a lot of hard work. All the tables and chairs need to be moved, the diving boards are removed to make room for the diving blocks to be installed Lane lines installed, tents set up, audio system and scoring tables set and making sure the coolers are filled with drinks and snacks for the swimmers and guests A special thanks to Ashley Roberts and Melanie Moreland for making sure we had all the details necessary for a smooth season The swim team ended their season with a great banquet and award ceremony.
We are excited the next round of irrigation and golf course improvements are underway New irrigation and greenside bunkers will be completed on holes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and #8 tee. The master plan will be on display in the lobby for more details During construction, we may have temporary tee and green locations for the day The golf shop will have daily updates on where work is scheduled each day. The irrigation installation isn’t as disruptive, and we will also be giving daily updates on where work is scheduled
It has been a crazy year for my family as we continue to navigate our lives without Amy. The firsts are very difficult, but we push forward making her proud as she watches us from Heaven We took a quick trip to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to spend a few days with my sister and had a wonderful time. My favorite part of the trip was being stuck in the car with my daughters for the eight hour drive there and back, which gave us plenty of time to catch up Megan is teaching first grade this year with Montgomery County Public Schools, and Katie is a senior at Sherwood High School. Megan married the love of her life, Finn in May, and Katie worked on her golf game all summer and will be playing for the Sherwood golf team this fall My girls are amazing, and we are thankful for everyone’s continued support.
Thank you to everyone who completed the member survey last year we received 260 responses We have made tremendous improvements over the past three years and were honored to receive the True Service Most Improved Member Satisfaction Award last year. We continue to make capital improvements in all areas of the club and train our team to provide outstanding service We have built a great team who work hard to ensure our members and guests have a memorable experience every time they visit Holly Hills We will use your feedback to develop action plans to enhance your experience at Holly Hills You will be receiving the survey via email in the next couple of weeks; please take the time to complete it.
I look forward to seeing you around the club

The golf course and our grounds team are excited to see some cooler temperatures as we enter the month of September Many courses throughout the region had a difficult time maintaining healthy turf this summer due to high heat and humidity Here at Holly Hills we certainly had our trouble areas, but we are quickly recovering as we get into some good seeding weather Optimal timing to plant grass seed in our area is between September 1 and October 15 During the next six weeks, you will see our team operating the tractor seeder and utilizing our walk-behind aerator to punch holes and then drop seed into the holes During early September while the soil temperatures are still warm, the seed will germinate within about 5-7 days, but as we get into October the seed will take closer to 10-14 days to germinate in the right conditions Once the germination occurs, it is another couple of weeks before it begins to look like an actual grass plant
Golf course renovations began on August 18 and will continue through the month of September During this phase of construction, holes #2-7 will be receiving new irrigation and greenside bunkers, while the white tee on hole #8 will be leveled and slightly enlarged New irrigation for #8 tee complex is also part of the project The work so far has begun on holes #7, #8 (tee only), #3, #2, then will be moving to #4, then #6, and finishing up on #5. Part of the project on #6 will include leveling the front section of the green The grass on the entire green needs to be removed while they work on the contour of the green, then the same grass will be laid back down after the grading work is finished. This work will begin on September 8, and during this time we will have a temporary green on #6 approach so the hole can remain open, but it will play as a shorter par 3
We are grateful for your patience as this work is being done, as these upgrades will definitely improve the golfing experience Please be aware of new sod and try to keep off until the grass is established and is mowed for the first time. For everyone’s safety we may need to close a hole or play from a different tee while the area is under construction Please check with the Golf Shop for any updates during the week
I hope everyone enjoys the last weeks of summer, and I look forward to seeing you out on the course.
