The warmth of summer calls for an easy elegance in the kitchen, where vibrant seasonal produce takes center stage Right now, Maryland is hitting its peak harvest for corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, and peppers. Even the garden itself gives us flavor inspiration: companion plants like basil, which naturally protect tomato crops from pests, also happen to pair beautifully with them on the plate.

Our new Heirloom Burrata Salad perfectly captures the effortless beauty of summer dining We start with a vibrant mix of heirloom tomato wedges, crisp sliced cucumbers, and fragrant fresh basil, all tossed in a bright, lemon-scented olive oil

Finished with a touch of flaky sea salt and a decadent, creamy wedge of burrata cheese right in the center; it’s a light, elegant dish that easily rivals the finest Caprese

Daniel Storm,

July has arrived and summer is in full swing. We had a few hot days in June and triple digit heat is here for the first few days of July The golf course has been busy hosting lots of great events including the Men’s Member Guest, Tuesday Night League, Ladies Game Night, Couples Golf, PGA Junior League, Junior Golf Camp and the Holly Hills Ladies Invitational. The calendar for July and August is also busy with the Parent/Child Tournament, Captains Cup, Couples Golf events, King of the Hill, Summer Slam Members Golf Outing, Stroke Play and Junior Club Championships

In other areas around the club, Camp Holly Hills is underway, providing campers with a fun variety of activities throughout the week including swim, golf, tennis and arts and crafts Our first Summer Concert Series on the back lawn was well attended and the popup grill station was very popular Mark your calendars for the July and August Concert Series events on 7/17 and 8/28. Wine Wednesdays, Trivia Nights, Pool Bingo, Sunday Fundays at the pool, Book Club, Pickleball Socials, Tennis and Pickleball Mixers and Divot Filling Parties We hope to see you there

The pool has been busy and our swim team, the Holly Hills Hurricanes, has hosted two home swim meets this season. Thank you to all the parents and volunteers who helped prepare the pool for the meets It takes a tremendous amount of work relocating furniture, removing the diving boards, setting up tents and getting the snacks and drinks ready, which all get broken down and undone when the meets are finished. The new soft seating, pergola, TV and shade structure have been nice additions and well received. Our annual 4 of July Pool Party will be lots of fun and will include a DJ, games and a great buffet th

We will be starting on the next round of golf course and irrigation improvements in August. The scope of work for the next phase includes completing the irrigation on holes 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 and greenside bunkers on holes 14, 15, 16 and 17 We will also be installing forward tees on holes 9, 11 and 13 This phase will complete the irrigation system which gives Dan and his team the most modern technology to protect the course Work is scheduled to begin mid-August depending on the weather, and we will update you as soon as we have the official start date

who may have missed them, please help us with the following:

1 Please always watch your children Children under 12 years old must always be under the direct supervision of a responsible adult.

2 Please be sure to register in the golf shop before heading on to the golf course It is important for us to know who is on the course at all times

3 When using the practice range, please be sure you are wearing proper golf attire and be aware of those around you at all times.

4.Please display your bag tag in a prominent way to help our team when they are monitoring the tee

5 When you are hitting longer shots, always aim to the longest section of the range down the right side

6 When enjoying the pool, always sign yourself and your guests in, and follow all the rules and any special instructions from the lifeguard staff. When you are done for the day, please clean up your area and throw your trash away

Also, as the heat builds and summer continues, remember to use sun block regularly and keep yourselves hydrated with plenty of water.

I look forward to seeing you around the club

SUPERINTENDENT’S UPDATE

SUMMER MODE ON THE COU MANAGING THE HEAT, STORMS, & UPGR

The golf and grounds team is officially in full su mode following an incredibly productive cou months. Our new hires and seasonal team mem are sharpening their mowing and trimming daily, while our entire staff remains deeply focus the finer details of the course. The health o turfgrass playing surfaces continues to be stron playing conditions have also been at a high lev we move deeper into the season, our primary fo proactively preparing the course to withstan intense summer heat and humidity

As the temperatures continue to rise, you w seeing our team doing more watering durin day As the soil dries out and the temperatur high, the grass will begin to wilt from drought a heat stress Turning on a sprinkler or hand wa g an area at the right time will help keep the grass alive during these hot days

We have already had some early summer strong thunderstorms, and we expect to have more through the next couple of months These storms can be dangerous and can come with very little warning, so please be aware of approaching storms while you are on the course. In early June, we had a severe storm that blew through the property and took down multiple large trees and branches The storm also caused a power outage in the local area and damaged part of the clubhouse roof. Our team worked extremely hard to get the golf course open at noon the next dayThe remainder of the cleanup work, with assistance from our tree removal contractor, was completed over the next couple of days It was a massive cleanup by everyone involved, and I am proud of our team for putting in such a great effort.

We will be starting the next phase of irrigation and construction projects mid-August which will take approximately six to eight weeks to complete. This phase will complete the remainder of the irrigation upgrades on holes #13-17 and also will include additional green surrounds and bunker work in these areas. Look for more email updates on this in the coming weeks The sod from last year’s projects continue to grow and mature We have slightly adjusted our management strategy for #6 green after seeing small signs of stress. We are now walkmowing this green to reduce the mechanical stress to the new sod and added some fertilizer to increase the growth rate in order to keep it healthy

I will see you on the course!
