LATEST TECH V OLDER SPEC?
Massey Ferguson launched its six model 6700 S tractor range at the tail end of 2016, the successor 6S series launching in 2021, the first 6S tractors arriving on farm from 2022. With 6S models now starting to trickle onto the used market, buyers may face choosing between a late 6700S or newer 6S. Which will make the better investment?

Massey Ferguson could previously be accused of baffling non-red brand followers with its tractor model line-up, with two different tractor series, the MF 6700 Global and MF 6700 S both having similar numbers on bonnets of tractors targeting different users. By simply dropping the ‘700’ element of the ‘S’ series, there is now much clearer

water between the 4.9 litre 6S models and the economy focussed 4.4 litre 120hp MF 6712 Global and the 130hp MF 6713 Global. In fairness, few would have been confused between these ranges for long, but what about a used buyer faced with the choice of a late 6700 S and current 6S series? This is less easy. On paper these different tractor generations appear to offer much the same in

terms of power and specification. Used prices will of course play their part in any buying decision. Compare a late 6700 S with a 6S of similar power and hours and the latter may appear to carry a hefty premium. The problem, however, is you need to compare like for like alternatives which is never straightforward. What follows may at least help with some of the basics.
Cat 3 rear linkage capacity will vary, 7,100kg for Dyna-4, 8,100kg for Dyna-6 and 9,600kg for Dyna-VT. The latter can have up to 5 rear remotes, the other transmissions 4, to include a choice of mechanical, split mechanical and electronic or full electronic control. Most UK spec tractors will have closed centre hydraulics, but fixed gear pump options were offered on 6700 S Dyna-4 models.

ORIGINAL FOUR-POT 6700 S
At launch is 2016, Massey Ferguson claimed the then new nominal 175hp MF 6718 S was the first four-cylinder tractor to offer, when boosted by Engine Power Management, up to 200hp. As with the other tractors in the then six-model 6700 S line-up, power is supplied to all variants by an AGCO Power 4.9 litre four-cylinder engine, the power range spanning nominal outputs, without boost, of 120hp to 175hp. The engines in these ‘first gen’ 6700 S

models meet Stage IV emission regulations, with full power delivered at 2,000rpm and maximum torque at 1,500rpm. Massey at the time said the aim was to deliver six-cylinder tractor driving characteristics matched to a more compact and lighter package. All models, to include an MF 6718 S, have a 2.67m wheelbase matched to a turn radius of 4.75m.
Except for the ‘entry’ level MF 6712 S, the MF 6713 S and up were all available with Massey’s continuously variable Dyna-VT
MF 6700 S Stage IV engine tractors were offered with, from left to right, Essential, Efficient and Exclusive spec packages and a choice of Dyna-4, Dyna-6 and Dyna-VT transmissions. Later Stage V models follow a similar format, but Dyna-4, rarely specified anyway, was dropped and the Multipad joystick on Exclusive tractors changed to the design used on the later 6S. The Datavison 4 option offered on Stage IV models changed to the still current Datavison 5 on Stage V models.

transmission, alternatives including Eco Dyna-4 that offers a 40km/hr transport speed at 1,850rpm. Also on offer were the then ‘new’ Dyna-4 and Dyna-6 gearboxes with selectable AutoDrive that can shift gears automatically according to the engine load and speed. It is the Dyna-6 that subsequently proved the most common spec choice.
MF 6700 S models share the same cab design as the larger MF 7700 S, with standard mechanical suspension. The colour dash display was borrowed from the range-topping MF 8700 and includes SIS
‘Set Up and Information System’ to set and monitor machine functions. As an option, a factory fit 'Technology Pack' to include Autoguide 3000 was offered, with launch tractors having a 12-inch Touch Screen fitted to tempt early adopters. This multi-function C3000 precision farming package can control ISOBUS compatible implements, map and record operations and provide Auto-Section control with variable rate application where applicable. Essential and Efficient spec pack tractors, more on these later, will have been offered with a Fieldstar 5 terminal as the interface for precision farming, the Exclusive tractor specification package coming with a more advanced 7-inch Datatronic 4 system.
Simple mechanical cab suspension system may not offer the same ride quality as its active alternative but has the advantage of simplicity. If there is wear in the system it is typically easy spotted and remedied.
The MF 6700 S was seen as a step up from the four-cylinder 6600 models they replaced.
The 4.9 litre engine was a new design, with 600 hour service intervals, plus there was greater transmission choice. Hydraulic output took a boost too, the closed centre load sensing hydraulics most specified starting
at 110 l/min rising to 190 l/min on Dyna-VT transmission models.
A point to note is that some earlier 50km/hr tractors were not fitted with trailer air brakes and basic open centre hydraulics were available. In other words, check the specs of any used buy. >>
It is well worth spending time to look over wiring and connectors. Electrical fault codes can be hard to trace but it is easier to spot damage to wires and connectors. Note bracket covering the cable. This is secured by a bolt that can work loose, leading to chaffing.
WHAT’S USED
TRANSMISSIONS – GET TO KNOW YOUR DYNA
Dyna-4 was offered only on Essential versions of the 6700 S. It is a 16x16 speed semi-powershift with four powershift in each of four manually selected ranges. Standard and ECO versions were available, the latter offering reduced engine speeds at 40km/hr. AutoDrive is essentially an auto mode and will shift ratios according to load and forward speed.
Dyna-6 is essentially a 24x24 variant of Dyna-4, and will be offered with 40km/hr or 50km/ hr transport speeds (with ECO as standard). AutoDrive is also fitted. A key advantage over Dyna-4 is the spread of nine gears in the field working range.
Dyna-VT is Massey’s stepless transmission, with a speed range of 0.3 to 40 or 50 km/hr, with ECO to reduce engine speeds in transport as standard. There are two ranges offered to suit different uses, with speed control via lever or pedal with fully automatic modes.
These are the basics but Massey has made revisions to the control software over the years, a point to note if you are stepping from an early 6700 S and into a more recent 6S.
The operation of the Multipad joystick has not changed but its design and button layout has evolved. Current 6S Exclusive (right) still has the same layout as previous 6700 S but armrest is updated and the overall specification of the tractor has been improved.
STAGE V MF 6700 S –2020 MODEL YEAR
Late in 2019, MF 6700 S tractors were fitted with a revised 4.9 litre engine compliant with Stage V emission regs, with Massey dropping the 120hp MF 6712 S to trim the range to five. Nominal power outputs also went up by 5hp per model, but boosted outputs remained the same. Much like the subsequent 6S in other words. A new Dyna-6 Super-Eco transmission was also offered as the only alternative to the Dyna-VT CVT, again matching what is offered on the 6 S. Up in the cab, a Stage V 6700 S with the
Exclusive spec pack moved to the Multipad control taken from the 8S models and was now offered with the still current 9-inch Datatronic 5 touch-screen terminal, with MF Connect data monitoring. Essential and Efficient alternatives, like their equivalent 6S successors, stick with Fieldstar 5 as an option.
FAMILY ‘S’ STYLE
The differences between the 6S series and predecessor 6700 S, particularly late Stage V models, are modest. Styling wise, 6S tractors have the same exterior ‘look’ as the 5S, 7S and 8S ranges, but otherwise these
tractors are similar to what went before and as previously mentioned they develop the same power outputs as the 6700 S Stage V models. Even cab noise levels of 70dBA are the same. On the surface, a 6S is a late 6700 S in new clothes and not that much different to an earlier 6700 S either.
If this was entirely accurate, it would make your used buying decision a lot easier. Go for a similar spec 6700 S over a 6S of similar age and hours and save a chunk of cash in the process. Right? Nearly, but subtle

NOTE: Stage V tractors have the same model numbering but have an extra 5hp like the current 6S without EPM. Maximum power has not changed.
Quadlink front axles obviously have pivot points that will wear over time. A trip at speed down a rough track will highlighting any problems. If the axle ‘bounces’ the accumulators may need replacing (right) or the set up software adjusting. Look for leaks from the steering ram and check for play in the track rods.
developments may sway you toward the later 6S. In broad outline, an MF 6S tractor will offer a bit more spec and niceties pro-rata over a 6700 S. These can include:
• standard air-suspended and heated seat
• mechanical or optional active cab suspension
• Exclusive and Efficient versions with a new armrest linked to the seat to operate the engine, transmission, hydraulics, linkage and pto. Includes switches for the radio and phone
• Transmission choice of Dyna-VT Super Eco or Dyna-6 Super-Eco semi-powershift with AutoDrive. Super-Eco version of the Dyna-VT delivers 40km/hr at engine speeds as low as 1,450rpm
• Both the MF 6S.165 and MF 6S.180 can be specified with larger Michelin VF650/60R42 rear tyres
• Exclusive and Efficient cab models have radio, mobile phone and play media operated through the Datatronic 5 screen
• E-Loader option for factory fit front loader. Can weigh each load and initiate an automatic bucket shake function
• Increased choice of hydraulic output
SPECIFICATION PACKS –THEY CAN VARY!
Moving now to the main three Massey Ferguson factory specification packs. These can help guide you to the tractor’s past use in that the more basic Essential pack is wellsuited to those seeking a simpler tractor, with Exclusive models tending toward a fuller spec. The trouble is, Massey Ferguson has changed the package names and has offered different marketing packs as well. As an outline, packs can include:
Essential: What you get with the Essential pack will vary between early 6700 S and current 6S tractor models, but as the name suggests this is the entry level specification. More likely to have Dyna-4 or Dyna-6 transmission on a 6700 S, Dyna-6 Super-Eco on Stage V tractors. Mechanical spools.
Efficient: Stage V engine models will have seat armrest control . Choice of mechanical or electronic spool control. A few upgrades that can include extra work lights.
Exclusive: Multipad lever that will differ between Stage IV and Stage V models, electronic spools, Datatronic. Overall specification is higher but there will be variations, with some tractors possibly doing without a feature you may expect. The later the tractor, the more tends to be bundled into the package.
WHAT’S USED
MF 6S SERIES OUTLINE SPECIFICATIONS
Engine Four-cylinder, Stage V, 4.9 litre AGCO Power
Rear lift capacities 17,100kg, 8,100kg or 9,600kg
Transmission 2Dyna-VT or Dyna-6 Super Eco
Hydraulics Dyna-6 110 l/min 3, 150 l/min option. Dyna-VT up to 190 litres/min.
1 Max lift with Dyna-VT. 2 Efficient and Exclusive models only. 3 Excludes MF 6S 180
Trailer air brakes were not always fitted to earlier 50km/hr 6700 S models, so check. Also, it pays to inspect a used buy to see it has the features you need ‘in the metal’, such as power beyond. A dealer listing may have some inaccuracies, the more so if there are several used models on offer.
HOW MANY PTO SPEEDS?
Essential specification models will have a 540/1,000 rpm pto as standard, with mechanical lever engagement. A four-speed 540, 540E, 1,000E and 1,000 pto was an option, a point to check on a lower spec 6700 S. Efficient and Exclusive specification models should have a four-speed pto as standard with modulated electric engagement.
A main dealer will use OEM filters, but on an older tractor that has perhaps been looked after outside the dealer network may have ‘pattern’ alternatives. These may be fine, but sticking with approved filters is recommended.
Panoramic: Visio Roof. Can be matched to FL Series loader mounted to factory-fit loader sub-frame. E-Loader option includes bucket shake facility to automatically operate spool valves to assist filling and emptying the bucket or fork.
Massey Ferguson UK will also have offered various promotion specifications. As an example, some 6S tractors could have been offered with specific spec packs to suit ‘typical’ end user needs without having to raid the options list. These could include:
Base: Entry level all-round farm use. Few options to keep price down
Guidance: Front linkage and basic guidance package
Loader: Basic loader package. As previously mentioned, these special and factory spec packs are perhaps better seen as an indication of the tractors target user.
A Dyna-VT transmission tractor will typically have a more comprehensive spec, but some customers may not have wanted additional spool valves, power beyond, extra lighting, a front linkage or enhanced guidance software. You really do need to know what you need and ask if a given used buy has the spec you want.
WHAT’S USED
When checking the exterior lights all work, also look at the controls, making sure all the buttons illuminate as pictured. Note mix of mechanical and electronic remotes.
This used shopping necessity is easy to overlook. Adding guidance to some variants can be costly. Most recent tractors have an almost baffling list of options with some kit you may expect to be fitted not always coming as standard.
PRE-BUYING POINTERS
It is worth thinking ahead to how you want the tractor to be maintained. It follows that a used buy with a good service record is worth more than one without, so consider this when it comes to protecting the tractor’s future residual value. >>
LED lights are an increasingly common fit, but halogen lighting will be a more common find on a used 6700 S or 6S. A plus with halogen lights is that they are cheaper to fix or renew.
WHAT’S USED
HOW LONG, HOW HEAVY, HOW TALL?
A 6700 S or 6S will be just over 5.0m long with a front weight pack, have a 2.67m wheelbase and weigh in at between 5,500 to 6,000kg without ballast. Gross vehicle weights range from 8,800kg to 11,500kg dependent upon model and transmission, Dyna-VT models having the higher capacity. Cab heights are around 3.0m without beacon, in theory, as different tyres and specification packs can lead to variations.
Talk to your supplying dealer if you want to do some in-house maintenance. Although it is established that a ‘laptop’ loaded with appropriate software is part and parcel of servicing modern tractors there are tasks that will fall also outside the knowledge of a typical farm workshop. If there is a balance of the manufacturer’s warranty transferred, there will be servicing conditions that will need to be met.
As for finding the right tractor, the internet can make it easy to browse through a fairly long list of potential buys. Handy to get an idea of what is available and the prices but be realistic. It will typically cost less to buy from your nearest Massey Ferguson dealer or, if you are looking at non-franchised or private buy, you need to know what you are doing.
KEY CHECKS
Overall condition. If you do not like what you see from a photo or from few paces away, things will be less likely to improve once you take a closer look. A seller is unlikely to turn down the request for a few extra pictures these days either. One area that can trip you up is tyre wear. An advertisement may list the tyres as 80% but not everyone adheres to same rules. Is that 80% tread remaining or are the tyres 80% worn? There is a big difference. Here in this article, we use the percentage to indicate roughly how much of the tread remains. Flip that around then that
same 80% could well mean only 20% of the tyre lugs remain, with 25% typically being considered about as worn as you should go before replacement.
It also pays to check the type of tyre fitted too, VF ‘very high flexion’ tyres proving less of a rare find now the factory offer them as a cost option on a new tractor. Are the tyres on a used buy VF or increased flexion IF types or are they just traditional radials? Ask the question ahead of viewing.
As to more specific checks, some Dyna-6 transmissions could develop problems with the synchro between gears 3 to 4. This can be caused by the operator repeatedly taking off in too a high a gear with a heavy load in tow. The four-wheel drive clutch can also fail following repeated extensive heavy braking from speed with a big load. Leaking spool valves can also be a problem, so take a good look at these as replacements are not cheap.
Dyna-VT transmissions should not give trouble at even high hours with the caveat that they do need to be serviced to schedule. Various software tweaks have been made, a point to note if you are after an earlier 6700 S. A tractor that has fallen out of the main dealer servicing routine may need attention. Some workshop time hitched up to a computer can resolve running and operating problems.
Some running problems can be related to sensors faults. These can be difficult to
trace. Modern wiring, if damaged, can throw up errors due to poor connections. Modern wiring should be left well alone and not tampered with.
If there are cab and front axle suspension problems, these are likely to be related to wear as opposed to design problems. The door seals can wear and the doors themselves may need a check as they can take a good slam to shut that in turn can lead to them needing to be adjusted. The bonnet catch can also fail. As to the finish, the black/ grey painted tinware can start to rust back from the edges and around the cab steps and the bonnet mesh grills can corrode.
SUMMARY
With increasing numbers of MF 6S models entering the used market choosing between these and late 6700 S models can make your buying decisions harder. An ex-hire 6S with high hours in relation to the age, with a solid service record, may make a sound buy but will it prove a better investment than a late Stage V MF 6700 S with fewer hours for less money? The key is to invest in a tractor with the specification you need and to work with a dealer if you cannot find a more recent model to meet your needs. There are some tempting deals out there but try and think beyond your immediate needs to include what your tractor may be worth when you come to trade it in a few years down the line.

Well the horrific weather conditions continue, but the sales season has carried on unabated with good prices obtained everywhere for second hand stock as the price of new machines can be so much.
I was at the Lamma Show in January where JCB was showing off its new Fastrac 6300 which has won critical acclaim all across Europe and quite rightly was the show winner at Lamma. However talking to JCB
dealers they tell me you won’t be able to obtain one until at least the middle of the summer and demonstrators are hard to come by.
It looks to me that JCB have missed a trick here with so much good publicity for the new machine you need to capitalise on it straight away, but it will cost you over £250,000 to buy one of these fine machines as tractors in this category are just that much money, no wonder the second hand market is hot.
MAJOR COLLECTOR WILL BE MISSED
Paul Anthony Rackham, a prominent British entrepreneur and landowner, died peacefully at his home on 7 January 2026 at the age of 89.
He was remembered for his staying power when things got tough which at times cascaded on him. He went on to build and lose major fortunes through his roller coaster life. One of his most famous achievements was his Waste Recycling Ltd and also AntiWaste Ltd, which moved on to be known as Waste Recycling Group plc. At one time he became a 1922 Burrell scenic showman’s owner in No. 3938 Quo Vardis, which he sold to Lord O Neal of Shanes Castle fame after less than two years of ownership.
HALLS VINTAGE
Floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1994, Waste Recycling Group plc took some time before it was finally sold in 2003 to Terra Firma for £531 million. After that Paul concentrated on farming at Manor Farm near Bridgham, Norfolk, where the farm increased to more than 2,000 acres. He created a superb vintage tractor collection which was second to none and added the John Moffitt CBE Hunday Ferguson Collection in 2004. Many groups and clubs visited at one stage or another.
The collection went on to be sold by Cheffins and Clarke and Simpson jointly in two separate sales starting in 26 September 2015 where the first major dispersal sale
Henry Hyde of Halls Shrewsbury Auction Centre, Battlefield, Shrewsbury SY4 3DR has been in touch to tell us he has a genuine collective sale on Saturday 28 March.
He is looking to add to the restored Massey Ferguson 135 and 168, working style cabless David Brown 1200, Nuffield tractors and other that have already been entered. He is also looking for implements and other vintage machinery for the sale. Please give him a call: 07398 137343 – henry.hyde@hallssgb.com
featured over 180 vintage tractors and raised £1.5 million. The second took place on 14 November 2015 and featured the Hunday Ferguson Collection.
Besides his vintage tractors he was a great equestrian owner and served as the master of the Suffolk Hunt and he also owned a number of successful flat and National Hunt racehorses in his time. He is survived by his wife, Sheila, and their four children, Jane, Sara, Paul, and Rachel. A private family funeral was held following his death he will be sadly missed by all. I had a good relationship with Paul and he was more than helpful to him over the years.

CHEFFINS CREATES A LEGACY
Agricultural auctioneers Cheffins has set up a lasting legacy as bicentenary fundraising surpassed £270,000 for Cambridge Children’s Hospital and local charities, said Sophie Richardson.
£212,000 will be going to Cambridge Children’s Hospital to fund a new playroom and a further £58,596 has been given to other local charities, while the company has also donated over 200 toys to the Addenbrooke’s Hospital Play Team.
Cheffins has marked its 200-year anniversary by leaving a lasting legacy for the East Anglia region, raising £270,596 for charity and exceeding its original bicentenary fundraising pledge by over £70,000.
Cheffins committed to raising £200,000 during its 200th year in 2025 and, 12 months on, a year-long programme of ambitious fundraising, community events and match funding has seen the firm significantly surpass that target, ensuring a tangible, longterm impact for children and local families.
Of the funds raised £212,000 will be donated to the Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) to create a brand-new, permanent playroom at Cambridge Children’s Hospital, which is bringing together mental and physical healthcare with world-leading life sciences research in a whole new way, treating mind and body as one. Once built, it will be the first specialist children’s hospital for the East of England, the only region in the UK without one. The remaining £58,596 has been distributed to a range of local and national charities, including LEAF, Dementia UK and through the Cambridge Community Foundation, extending the impact of Cheffins’ bicentenary celebrations across the wider community.
Cheffins originally pledged £100,000 to ACT during its bicentenary year but, by more than doubling that amount, the extra funds raised will provide a significantly larger, purposebuilt playroom in Cambridge Children’s
In addition to the financial contribution, Cheffins has also donated a toybox containing more than 200 toys, symbolising each year of the firm’s history. Collected across all Cheffins’ offices and donated by staff, the toys will be used by play teams at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the toybox itself will take pride of place in the Cheffins’ playroom once completed.
Bill King, chairman of Cheffins, said: “Celebrating 200 years in business gave us a unique opportunity to reflect upon our heritage and, more importantly, to look forward and ask what kind of legacy we want to leave behind. We have been overwhelmed by the support our bicentenary campaign received. Our staff showed extraordinary
energy, creativity and commitment throughout the year, and thanks to them – alongside the generosity of our clients, partners and the wider community we have been able to raise more than double our original target for the Children’s Hospital.”
He added: “From the Saffron Walden Carnival and Newmarket Bake Sale to the Cheffins Cycle Ride, charity tractor sale and countless personal challenges, this campaign brought the whole firm together behind a shared purpose. While our bicentenary year may have ended, our commitment hasn’t. We will continue to fundraise throughout the hospital’s construction to ensure we make a meaningful difference when construction is complete in 2030.”
I would like to send my congratulations to Bill for all that you and your team have done for others.

STRADSETT GIVES AWAY £1,000S
At the East Anglia Group NVT&EC AGM in November it was announced that the group had been able to give away donations totalling several thousand pounds to local charities following their May 2025 Stradsett Park Vintage Rally, held near Kings Lynn.
The donations went to the following charities: £5,000 to East Anglia Air Ambulance, £1,000 Charles Burrell Museum, £1,000 West Norfolk Cats Protection Centre, £1,000 MAP Kings Lynn, £1,000 Pandora Project and £1,000 MacMillan Support, Bury St Edmunds.
The major 2026 theme is 80 Years of Banner Lane Tractors –
celebrating the legacy of tractors produced at the famous Coventry factory. There are some rare gems lined up in the display and parade for this year’s event, which is very much an event for tractor fans.
As always this is an exceptional rally with good steam, miniature, car and lorry sections. It’s also very much an event for the tractor connoisseur and comes highly recommended if you have never been before. Further details and entry forms www.nvtec-ea.org.uk or Tel: 01366728530 – 07704481994.

BUMPER CROP IN NORTHERN IRELAND
Cheffins is heading across the Irish sea for the third time for an online sale of vintage and classic tractors in Northern Ireland.
This important sale will comprise more than 60 vintage and classic tractors, on behalf of three highly regarded private collectors, with all lots based in Newtownards and Ballymena, Northern Ireland. The auction will run as a timed online sale starting on Friday 13th to Tuesday 24th March, and is expected to see bidders from across the UK, Republic of Ireland, mainland Europe and North America.
The emphasis in this auction is originality and that comes across very clearly in the quality of the stock, which features a wide range of historically significant and well-preserved machinery, with one of the highlights being a 1970s County 1254, 1990s Ford 7610 Series II and a Genesis New Holland 8670. In addition, there is a series of collectable Ford tractors including a Commander 6000 model Select-O-Matic.
Joe Page of Cheffins Machinery
Department said: “We are delighted to be instructed on this important sale. With a varied catalogue put together with three vendors collections all long-standing clients of Cheffins, we will be looking forward to seeing many of our regulars on their home turf in Northern Ireland. As we continue to expand our programme of machinery auctions both on-farm and at our Sutton Saleground, near Cambridge, we will be looking to host further sales in Ireland as it continues to be one of the leading sources of historic machinery.”
Cheffins Vintage Sales grossed a total of £6.5m in 2025, and the firm continues to hold the record for the most expensive tractor sold in Europe when £310,000 was paid for a 1903 Ivel Agricultural motor in 2019.
The auction will commence on Friday 13th March from 10:00am online, with viewing available on Wednesday 18th March at both Newtownards and Ballymena, Northern Ireland.

STRONG PRICES
A Cambridgeshire farmer successfully cleared surplus machinery through Cheffins’ Monthly Machinery Sale at Sutton, near Ely on Monday 9 February, achieving a result well in excess of expectations. Matt Bedford recently consigned a 2007 New Holland T7030 with 5,030 hours, where it achieved a stomping £30,000 against a reserve of £17,500. The tractor was delivered to the Cheffins saleground ahead of the auction and professionally valeted by the machinery team. Strong pre-sale interest ensured competitive bidding, with the tractor ultimately selling to a buyer in Ireland.
Joe Page, Cheffins said: “We were delighted to support Matt with the clearance of his machinery. We are seeing increasing numbers of farmers using our Monthly Machinery Sale both to trade up and to rationalise or exit their businesses. At the same time, demand for quality second-hand machinery continues to grow, particularly as new equipment prices rise. Our Sutton sale offers a proven global marketplace, with buyers from over 30 countries, alongside practical services such as machinery delivery, collection, valeting and washdown facilities to support export requirements. As the farming
Deutz-Fahr are more popular than ever. The 5125 with loader arms got to £19,500
sector continues to evolve, we remain committed to providing a trusted route to market for unwanted machinery.
There was a great buzz at this sale with excellent stock offered and although it was wet underfoot it did not rain while the extensive sale was being sold and it was reasonably warm for the time of year. I was able to take in the full 320 tractors on offer here. I kicked off with the Massey Ferguson not so glamorous selection starting with the 1978 590 4WD that was knocked down by Joe Page at £4,200 to be followed by a MF 50 skid unit at £1,900. The 265 two-wheel drive with Duncan cab which I have seen worse was moved on at £5,800. As the Beauvais, French made Massey Ferguson 165 2WD with loader was driven in and, some £2,200 was offered for it. Looking good was the MF 240 that raised £6,200. In reasonable condition was the MF 699 4WD with a good cab, was got away at £7,100. A 168 2WD with the remains of a Flexi cab which made a good £6,100. The ex Cork, Ireland 290 made £5,500 and the 1975 575 2WD made £4,000. The 290 again with a Duncan cab 2WD was to see £5,800 paid for it. Another Duncan cabbed tractor was a 240 2WD it made £5,800 and would clean up well.
The 1962 Fordson Dexta export with low exhaust was sold for £3,000
Selling for £25,000 was the 1990 MB trac 1100 G31YDD which showed some rust
The sale moved up a gear when the Massey Ferguson 6120 and 890 loader was got away at £14,000 and £12,100 was offered for the 6150 model. The MFs just kept on coming the 390 4WD a so, so example went to £10,200 and another example this time a 390T with V5 sold at £14,200. Moving on in eras the 2015 MF 5612 Dyna-4 raised a good £27,400.
The colour changed to blue and two Fordson Dexta’s were offered. Made in different factories the Dagenham built 1962 example with low exhaust all painted, and an export model at that, sold for £3,000, but the Basildon painted export Pre-Force 2000 example that ran well got to £5,000 but was not let go.
Moving on we came to a raft of New Hollands. Two 7635s with front linkage saw £11,000 and £11,500 respectively. For the classic fan there was a 2001 New Holland TM120 4WD with sprayed bonnet (what a lovely classic) and that was reflected in its price of £27,000 and it contrasted with the 2010 New Holland 3030 at £6,000. The totally wrecked and dragged out of the bushes 1973 registered Ursus C-385 72hp 2WD was got away at £950. The rather tatty, but good looking terracotta coloured 1994 Fiatagri F-130 DT 4WD was got away at £9,800 and the Zetor Unified Series III 1996 7540E 4WD was to raise £6,200.
We moved on again with the lovely metallic red Ashbrook 350th Case-IH tractor a 2023 300 CVX tractor that went on to sell for £105,000. Others in this excellent Case-IH section were the 2017 Case-IH Farmall 115C £25,000, 2000 Case-IH MX135 £19,000, 2004 MXM190 £12,500 and there were others. Later on three Quadtracs were offered, the 2022 example got to £206,000 and wasn’t sold however the 2007 620 was at £53,000.
We moved through the lovely blue Italian Landini section, the 2018 5-110 4WD raised £15,000 and the 165 4WD £14,200. Then came the Valtra range, here the 2012 T182 4WD made £21,500. There was a 2000 8150 4WD in Claas sold colours which was interesting to see, even if it was a little rusty, it raised £11,000. We were to see a 2013 Claas Ares 650 4WD make £25,200 and a 2005 Ares 697ATC £13,500 and there were others of this make offered. The best in the McCormick section was the 2016 X5.40 with loader at £24,500.
There was a further powerful New Holland section with the 2013

These are just some of the examples.
We returned to the better MF tractors the 2017 7716 Dyna-6 4WD with FL4323 loader £38,000, 2017 MF 7740 Dyna-6 4WD £34,500, 6455 with loader 5,060h £35,800, 2009 8240 4WD needs tyres £25,000, 2010 4708 £23,000. Next on were three unsold Belarus new tractors the 1025.3 4WD made £17,200 and £16,000 the enclosed cabbed 1221.3 raised £16,500.
The orange coloured 2020 Kubota M-7132 £21,200, 2020 M-7152 Premium £25,000, 2020 M-125GX-111 £20,200. We went green and the Deutz-Fahr 2022 5125 £19,500, 2017 7250 TTV £38,000.
We then moved to the 45 John Deere section and there was a great choice here three 2024 6R185 examples came up and raised £105,000 £102,000 and the 1,750 hours example £103,500. A 2015 6115R raised £36,500, 2014 6140R £26,000, 6145R Premium £35,800, 2016 6215R £35,100, 2019 6120M £46,000, 2021 6130M £58,100, 2017 6155M £39,200, 2002 6920 £14,200, 2018 6130R low hours £26,100 and 1984 1640XL 2WD with front lift (lovely) £6,000 and there were plenty more!
Three Challenger crawlers came along, one that broke down when its clutch pick-up switch went on the blink; 2008 MT865B £38,000, 2005 MT765B £24,500 and 755, £24,000.
We were nearly through them all when the Fendt selection came on and the bidders all wanted the Fendt 724 Profi which ended up at £52,000, the Kent supplied 1994 Fendt 255V L980GKN raised £4,800 here, 2004 Fendt Favorite 714 4WD with a rusty hole in its n/s wing raised £16,800 and others came and went. The last star of the day was the 1990 Mercedes-Benz MB trac 1100, G31YDD that sold here for £25,000 with some rust in the doors.
It had been quite a sale as I headed for home at 3.30pm and the rain had not arrived, thank goodness. The online 10am Tuesday tools and equipment sale also had lots of lovely gems in it this month.
45,000 PLUS ATTEND LAMMA
The LAMMA Show started in January 1982, when there were just 50 stands at the Lincolnshire Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers’ Association outdoor show at the Newark Showground, Nottinghamshire. At that stage it was not a large show the big one then was the indoor Royal Smithfield Show, held in December at Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London.
The show moved there in 1949 having previously been held at the Royal Agricultural Halls, Islington from 1862–1938. In fact it had all started in 1799 at the Wootton Livery Stables in Dolphin Yard, Smithfield, London, but in 2004, after 207 years, it was driven into the concrete by high costs and lower attendances and that was that…
This was when the spotlight finally turned on the LAMMA Show, which had been growing year-by-year until it became
Peter Love visited the 2026 LAMMA Show the UK’s largest agricultural show to see the latest machinery over 16-17 January at the NEC Birmingham where a record crowd was seen both days.
too big and moved to the Peterborough Showground in 2016. In 2019 after a shaky start the LAMMA show moved fully indoors to the NEC. In 2021 it was cancelled, but tentatively came back in 2022 and has come on every year since. To my eyes it looked like a great show in 2026, with lots of European visitors, especially from Ireland, who all wanted to chat, which was great to see. It would be good to see all of the European tractor manufacturers here, but at least 75% of the UK market’s machines were here.
However, from the main stream manufacturers, John Deere and Claas were
not in attendance and there were other notable absences. The McCormick stand was rather cramped to say the least.
NEW HOLLAND
New Holland had on its stand the new sparkling T7 XD (Extra Duty) range which offers a high hp line in a compact design thanks to its new front axle design with its tighter turning circle and features Terraglide™ independent front axle suspension. The tractor bridges the gap between the T7HD and large T8 series.
On show were the top of the range T7 .440XD SWB (standard wheel base) that

looked good in its stunning blue livery. It carries the FTP 8.7 litre Cursor 9 6-cylinder 360-440hp engine that is fitted with a structural sump which is all part of the monobloc style construction of this range that does not feature a two rail construction and helps stop vibration and provides a better ride New Holland say. It also carries the newly introduced Auto Command CVT transmission. Also available for the first time on a New Holland tractor is an integral central tyre inflation system. This allows increased flexion (IF) or very high flexion (VF) tyres to be operated at their lower recommended pressures when at work in the field. The Horizon™ Ultra cab has also been upgraded and looked good and there were many waiting to get in its cab both days of the show. It is assembled at the Basildon factory of course.
The T5S was also being promoted with its 110hp engine and its faster response steering and new loader positioned controls
and more. The T4.120F vineyard/orchard tractor was seen for the first time here with a CVT transmission. Standing out was the FR920 Forage Cruiser which features the new automated forage cam for kernel breaking. Also seen was the Farm Machine of the Year award winning New Holland W170D+ Forage Power Loader, tailor-made for silage and biomass work.
Case-IH 440 Optum was a winner at the Agritechnica 2026 Farm Machinery Awards taking the ‘Upper Middle Size Tractor Optimum’ award.
CASE IH
Fresh from its first showing at Agritechnica was all-new Optum® 440 and this was the highlight on the Case IH stand. The tractor is assembled at St Valentin, Austria in the former Steyr premises whose insignia is the bullseye denoting its heritage as an arms manufacturer and one of the largest in Europe even today. >>
The Case-IH 120M is a tribute to the Farmall M that hit full production in 1939. It certainly has some style to it.

Tafe Indian manufacturer has always had a good number of UK customers is moving away from its AGCO connections.
The tractor company became part of Case-IH in 1996 which merged into CNH in 1999. The 440 was the winner in class at Agritechnica last November.
The hp line of the these three new models offer: 360, 390 and 435hp from the FPT 8.7 litre Cursor 9 engines which are either made in Italy or France. The CVX transmission used comes from the CNH Antwep, Belgium factory. Case-IH says the tractors offer balance, power, agility and control.
As for the tractor hood style it resembles a Deutz-Fahr Warrior which set futuristic standards when introduced 10 years ago and even AGCO’s MF have a similar look to some of its range now as do New Holland, but they are part of the CNH family of course.
The Optum 440 has an updated cab design that offers improved visibility, and control, with advanced FieldOps™. The tractor is built for the bigger mixed and arable operations and it created great interest and there was a queue to get in the cab.
Also seen for the first time in the UK was the new Puma® available in 155, 165 or 185hp models, which has a new reconfigured frame design and featured the CVXDrive™ transmission. The manufacturer says the
Outside the halls was the classic CEAT Massey Ferguson 6290 a type made between 1999-2003 which was advertising winter tractor tyres.
As always the Deutz-Fahr stand was impressive which saw the ground up new 8 series TTV for the first time in the UK, but we see here.
range offers improved load handling, traction and working speeds, allowing operators to use power more economically, with lower costs thanks to efficient fuel consumption. There is a new front axle suspension that gives a better turning radius of 11.4m.
Alongside these significant additions, was the flagship high spec Farmall® M 120M with its FTP 3.6 litre 100-120hp Stage V engine. Offered in 100M, 110M and 120M configurations the Farmall M has an excellent lift capacity of 5200kg and 8-ton gross vehicle weight, with top speeds of 40 kph at 1,970 rpm. The Farmall offers two distinct packages to suit different customer requirements. The Selection Package provides a simple, durable, and cost-effective solution for essential utility while the advanced package provides enhanced comfort with a suspended cab, suspended front axle and a low-frequency suspended seat with fore and aft isolation.
The M name is a tribute to the Farmall M made from 1939-53 which was such a success for the company and went on to be made in the UK from 1949 at Doncaster. In fact at the 2025 Farm Progress Show in Illinois they showed the new M with the old M which went down a storm with tractor fans.
The Krone stand had some amazing machines like the Swadro rotary rake which features unique double-kink lift tines.
Biggest on the stand was the Case IH Steiger 475 Quadtrac, time has flown when since 1996 when Quadtrac production started and came into our lives and it has certainly been a success in its sector. This ‘baby’ example has the familiar family styling and features a FTP 12.9 litre Cursor 13 6-cylinder 475-522hp engine and is offered with optional heavy duty suspension. The larger 785 model which has 853hp under its bonnet was seen at Agritechnica in November 2025 for the first time in Europe, one can say that these dinosaurs have been reliable and their track system has proven to be hard wearing.
MASSEY FERGUSON
The key highlight on this year’s MF stand was the new 5S now offered by customer demand with the Dyna-VT (continuously variable transmission). This was the first time out for the revamped tractor in the UK, having been seen for the first time in Europe at the 2025 Agritechnica Hannover show last November.
It has been pointed out that this transmission system offers the livestock farmer, and also the diminishing UK dairy farmer, smoother control when feeding in livestock areas and working in confined spaces, where the Dyna-VT comes off particularly well. However, the MF 5S is still offered with the Dyna-6 and Dyna-4 gearbox option, all made at Beauvais, Northern France, which has a brilliant new 2,800m² Customer Experience Centre (called Agrispace), which opened in May 2025.
At the other end of the spectrum was the flagship MF 9S.425 with its AGCO six-cylinder 8.4 litre 425hp (no power bulge). This engine has been updated, and has seen the twin-turbo system and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) taken off and it now carries the single variable-geometry turbo. This is said to give better reliability and fuel efficiency.
The tractor had been treated to the MF ‘By You’ customisation studio. It was finished with a stunning metallic dark red livery, with black coated wheel rims, athermic window tints, smartphone armrest holder, and speaker upgrade. MF has been quoted as saying, “Tractors are very personal to operators, and spending a lot of time in the cabs mean upgrades to make life easier are essential.
‘King’ of the match plough is Kverneland who have been going 147 years (owned by the Kubota Corporation since 2012) and make other things besides ploughs including balers.
The new Massey Ferguson E1755 fourwheel drive gets lots of attention.
Massey Ferguson TH.8043 features Dyna-CT transmission.

It is also a great way to build business recognition by having a bespoke colour scheme for all tractors” said Lindsay Haddon, advertising and sales promotion manager of Massey Ferguson UK, IRL and the Middle East.
Also here was the new grasscare MF 1700E (Stage V) series, the 1755E, has a 2.4 litre turbo four-cylinder engine producing 54hp. The flat-floor tractor has 12-forward speeds with a 12-speed shuttle reverser. It certainly looked a tidy, well built tractor. AGCO explained that this range is ideal for a mid-mounted mower deck and rear scraper and is essentially for the utility tourism, equine, and amenity sectors. The tractor is offered with a strong and durable MF FL matching loader if required and comes with the obligatory foldable rollover bar.
With over two million followers on YouTube and Facebook, MF ambassador James was here from his ‘Scotty’s Farm’, a Cheshire dairy farm, where he uses a special customised Massey Ferguson Custom 6S 180 supplied by R.V. Pugh to do the main work. Here he demonstrated the high-end customisation capabilities of the ‘MF eXperience’ or ‘MF By You’ programme. His YouTube videos have been praised for their educational content. James’ Massey Fergusons 6S certainly attracted lots of attention at the show and the goodies area of the stand was also doing fine business in Hall 12, which was great to see.
In the corner was the Massey Ferguson Beta 7370 combine, a medium to large farm machine with its AGCO 8.4 litre 360hp engine and six-straw walker system, with multi-crop separator. The grain tank has a capacity of 9,000 litres or 8,600 litres on ParaLevel models (ParaLevel is a patented system for levelling on slopes up to 20%, while maintaining a narrow transport width of 3.5m). The Skyline cab and 10.4 Tech Touch terminals looked good from the operator’s seat when I climbed into it. An interesting fact is that some 374 combines of all makes were sold in the UK during 2023-2024.
Another AGCO brand Fendt have been a supporter of this show since the off at the NEC Birmingham. There have been a raft of new tractor releases by this company following Agritechnica last November and many were here at the show. These tractors included the 500 Vario Gen4 which is a new four model 513-16 series for the UK market, with power from the AGCO 134-164hp which has a 10hp power boost with the new single stage VarioDrive transmission. The 500 Vario and has a low weight of 11.75 tons and can be flexibly ballasted on its wheels to create more traction and this will help it in the field.
Also here was the new 700 Gen7.1 Vario, the range 720-728 (203-303hp) features Fendt’s 20hp power boost called DynamicPerformance and this was previously only available on the top end 728 model.
Also new here was the completely redesigned 800 Vario Gen5. This three model range 826, 829 and 832 with 260-343hp has a 23hp DynamicPerformance to each model, from the AGCO 8 litre CORE80 6-cylinder engine. It also features the single-stage Fendt VarioDrive drivetrain that has permanent and independent four-wheel drive. The objective here is to give maximum tractive effort power without manual shifting when switching between field and road. There is extra hydraulic capacity offered with an optional twin-pump system delivering up to 385 litres. The rear linkage has a lift capacity of 10.5 tons with the front linkage offering 5.3 tons.
However these are not the biggest in the wheeled Fendt tractor range. The 1000 Vario Gen4 offers 426-550hp from the 1040, 1044, 1048 and 1050. But the highlight for the classic fan on the stand was the 1995 Favorit 926 Vario one of the Fendt pre production tractors which was celebrating 30 years of Vario transmissions.
Looking monstrous was the updated Ideal MY26 combine which features Fendt’s CyclonePlus system featureing a pre-sieve 1.0m² concave space with a new design of upper concave. There is also a developed performance kit to help cleaning of the crop and its distribution particularly on undulating ground.
KUBOTA
The Kubota stand modest in size, but the M7-174 is a good reliable machine and well liked and features the 6.1 litre V6108 4-cylinder engine 170hp which has a 5hp power boost. It also has a popular ‘brake to neutral’ feature and a multi-speed steering option and this makes it ideal in livestock applications.
The Kubota DSX-W Geospread TIM spreader won a silver medal at the show which uses TIM (Tractor Implement Management) this allows, the implement to control tractor functions for improved precision, interesting times. Also making its debut was the SVL75-3 compact tracked loader that has been developed for UK solar maintenance and features a width of 1.7m and also features a high specification pressurised cab. There were many implements on this stand besides the good looking X042-5 mini excavator.
JCB
By far the most popular stand was JCB, its goodies area had huge queues as the staff tried to cope with the demand for its range from models to hats over the two days. It was all helped with its award winning new high power Fastrac 6300 range which picked up the top award at Agritechnica and again at Lamma, which is nothing but good for British industry remembering JCB has over 26 factories worldwide.
The new 335hp Fastrac 6300 was described by the judging panel at Agritecnica and at Lamma as “redefining the balance between performance, efficiency and sustainability.”
JCB’s Fastrac 6000 Series provides farmers and contractors with a feature-laden, highly productive tractor suited to a multitude of field and transport tasks. It stays true to JCB's concept that defines all Fastracs, while introducing new features such as the central tyre inflation management system, which enables operators to quickly set optimum pressures for road travel and to minimise soil compaction in the field. As with all Fastracs, it includes the unique all-round suspension – when most conventional tractors have a rigid rear axle.
The Fastrac system provides unmatched levels of operator comfort, while the iCON digital control interface makes it easy to configure tractor and implement systems. Both help make an operator’s day working on a Fastrac more productive and a lot less tiring. The unique double-acting suspension front and rear is also key to the Fastrac’s traction in the field for heavy draft work such as ploughing and cultivating, and to its legal high speed 66kph when driving on the road. JCB’s Smart Transmission Control system also contributes to the Fastrac 6300’s sustainability credentials by managing the powertrain that ensures optimum performance with the least fuel consumption. >>
As always the Fendt stand was impressive with the new Fendt 832 Vario Gen5 with its extra 23hp DynamicPerformance and new transmission system.
Merlo UK was celebrating its 45 anniversary of telehandler production with an original SM30 and the stand featured the Cingo M600-TD-e electric telehandler made at San Defendente di Cervasca, Italy.

The new 284hp Fastrac 6260 and 335hp 6300 agricultural tractors with FTP 6.7 litre engines expand the iconic high-speed Fastrac range and introduces a number of new features. Its heavy duty 11,000kg three-point hydraulic lift linkage has proved to be such a success on the new models already. There is also a new high-precision guidance system to help operators achieve accurate field work with maximum productivity. The brakes have been redeveloped for easier maintenance and you can replace the brake pads in just hours instead of days and that’s just for starters.
Also on the excellent stand were the new Loadall’s particularly the 555-70 and 546-70 AgriPro telehandlers which feature a new chassis design and boom with increased lifting capacity with a tear force of an extra 15%. Also on display was the 1981 Loadall 520-4 celebrating nearly 50 years of telehandler history.
The compact telehandlers 526-60 and larger 530-60 with uprated cabs with 10in displays attracted great interest. Also creating great interest was the 403E wheel loader part of the JCB E-TECH range. The loader carries two independent electric motors, one for the driveline (33.4kW) and one for the hydraulics (20kW), delivering instant torque and responsive control. It features a 20kWh, 96V lithium-ion battery,

the largest standard capacity in its class. It has rapid 3-phase charge which gives you 0-100% in two hours or on 230v with a domestic plug eight hours charging. In typical cases the loader will run for four hours non-stop before needing charging.
However the tractor that was most photographed at the show was on the Taylor’s attachment stand who won a bronze medal for its Viper 3000 front bale loader. Attached to the loader was a classic and so original Doppstadt Trac 160 made in the former VEB Fortschritt (part of the IFA conglomerate) factory in East Germany. The Doppstadt is the continuation of the Mercedes-Benz MB trac story of course. They were made between 1999-2002, sadly the last were liquidated in 2006.
Owing to space we have only been able to touch the surface, all in all the show was very good, but all equipment is getting bigger and heavier. Now that might be ok for some, but places like East Sussex, Devon and other counties where the roads are extremely narrow and with the poor condition of the roads and so many pot holes not being repaired it is certainly not a good thing to have tractors and trailers getting larger and heavier. As it just exacerbates the situation this is without forgetting field entrances.
McCormick really needed more room the X7.624 240hp is available with VT-Drive or P6-Drive and now DSM (Data Screen Manager).
Going so well is GT Bunning & Sons based at Gressenhall, Norfolk who have been making manure spreaders since 1987.
Highly respected French manufacturer Manitou was here with its NewAg Evolution range which included its electric MLT625 telehandler.
The only John Deere in the halls was this 6R 185 supplied by Tuckwells.
EURO AUCTIONS GET GOING
There was an excellent entry for the Euro Auctions first sale of the year near Leeds, with the tractor section starting it off on Wednesday 28 January remembering the live sale was to last for another two days as it concentrated on the plant sections. Strong prices were paid for some of the stock remembering that Euro Auctions own the stock they are selling here.
Highlight early on was a batch of new Massey Ferguson 7724S Dyna-6 tractors which was a cancelled order to Russia.
Euro reputedly paid £40,000 each for these tractors, which they sold for between £78-£68,000 that’s what you call wise buying.

JOHN DEERE EXPANDS 8R AND 8RX TRACTOR SERIES
John Deere is adding three new highhorsepower tractor models to its 8R and 8RX series, with rated engine outputs of 440hp, 490hp and 540hp. The models are designed for the demands of heavy draft applications and long working days. All models are equipped with the JD14 13.6 litre engine, which can deliver up to 634hp through Peak Power Intelligent Power Management (PP IPM). This makes the top model 8R/8RX 540 the world’s most powerful standard-design tractor.
SUPERIOR TRACTION AND POWER FOR DEMANDING TILLAGE WORK
The JD14 engine in the 8 series highhorsepower line-up provides up to 2,695 Nm maximum torque and a constant power range from 1,450rpm to 1,900rpm. PP IPM provides an additional 40hp across the main engine speed range down to 1,600rpm, delivering
extra power in demanding applications with high load PTO and electrically or hydraulically driven implements.
The new 8R tractor models are available with tyres up to 2.30m at the rear and 1.85m in the front. Both the single wheel and dual wheel configurations, including dual front tires up to 710mm wide, can be equipped with the John Deere single line Central Tyre Inflation System (CTIS), which automatically adjusts tyre pressures at any speed and temperature.
The simplified layout allows the axle hub to incorporate heavy-duty sealing components, which are covered by the protection plan PowerGardTM. The new 8RX models use an updated four-track system with redesigned undercarriages and Soucy CustomFitTM P series belts. Depending on configuration, the track system provides a contact area of up to 4.87m² and thus ground pressures as low as 0.4 kg/ cm², helping to minimise soil compaction.
The stepless eAutoPowrTM transmission is in base for all new 8R/8RX models. The system uses an electro-mechanical split-path layout that replaces hydrostatic components with maintenance-free electric motor generators, improving energy flow efficiency in the transmission by up to 8% compared to conventional hydrostatic solutions.
The new Heavy-Duty Independent Link Suspension (HD ILS) front axle ensures efficient power transfer and a turning radius of around 7m, supporting smaller headlands and precise path-to-path operation. The HD ILS features automatic as well as manually adjustable load-based suspension adaptation for a more comfortable and personalised cab experience.
Fuel tank capacities of 936 litres on the 8R models, and up to 1,123 litres on 8RX machines, support long working days, with operating times of up to 14 hours at 85% load, eliminating refill stops in 12-hour shifts.
BENCHMARK CAB AND OPERATOR ENVIRONMENT
The CommandViewTM 4 cab is equipped with a redesigned CommandARMTM with integrated Convenience Display, allowing operators to recall seat settings and personalise the cab environment by controlling, for instance, radio, A/C or phone. Furthermore, the new CommandARMTM features two new joystick options: the CommandX Plus for basic operation, or the advanced CommandX Pro for expertlevel control. Both provide enhanced configurability, including new phone and infotainment control, new G5Plus display navigation, and extended Precision Ag functionalities.
All new 8R and 8RX models are equipped in-base with a StarFireTM 7500 receiver, a G5Plus CommandCenterTM display and JDLinkTM connectivity. With flexible licence options, operators can access supervised autonomy features that support consistent work quality and reduce operational mistakes.
Features like AutoPathTM Rows and Boundaries create guidance plans for the entire field and all seasonal operations, while AutoTracTM Turn Automation delivers precise turns in any field shape. Passive Implement Guidance ensures centimetre level accuracy by reducing implement drift, and AutoTracTM Implement Guidance In Reverse enables precise manoeuvring of wide implements, regardless of operator experience. In-Field Data Sharing and seamless data transfer to the John Deere Operations CenterTM offer coordinated operation without manual data exchange.
“Thanks to its non-position-indicating digital controls, the 8R/RX high-horsepower tractors are inherently prepared to retrofit future Autonomy components,” explained Marcus.
EXCEPTIONAL VERSATILITY
The 8 series high-horsepower line-up delivers articulated level pulling power with standard tractor versatility, enabling quick field to field moves while handling the largest implements. With up to 418 l/min hydraulic flow large drills are easily powered. The tractor comes with an optional Category 5
drawbar and a double acting rear hitch with up to 10.8 tonne lift capacity at 610mm, while two new double acting front hitch options offer up to 4.8 tonne at 610mm. Together with a 130kW front PTO the new 8R and 8RX models are designed to handle all heavy-duty implements from large-scale mulchers to PTO-driven silage distributors. The Type 4 rear PTO with 1000, 1000E, and 1300 speeds and up to 548hp maximum PTO power even in stationary applications, offers surplus power for demanding jobs.
The new 8R/RX tractors feature an optional Jake Brake engine brake with up to 300 kW of brake power. When engaged, it automatically responds whenever actual speed differs from pre-selected speed, delivering smooth deceleration with one pedal ease, while protecting the main brake for longer life.
Three selectable operating modes allow operators to tailor engine and transmission
performance to specific tasks:
• ECO mode: prioritises fuel efficiency and comfort with reduced engine speeds, ideal for transport or light-duty work.
• STANDARD mode: Balances power, efficiency, and responsiveness for most field operations.
• MAX mode: Unlocks full engine potential and fastest response for heavy draft applications and dynamic load changes
HIGHLY EFFICIENT ROAD AND TRANSPORT PERFORMANCE
Transport speeds of 60 km/h at 1,440rpm or 50 km/h at 1,200rpm are available on wheeled versions, depending on market regulations.
The new ILS Roll Control automatically adjusts front axle suspension stiffness during cornering and higher transport speeds, reducing leaning to curves and minimising forward dip under heavy braking.
CutiWise drone collects drone imagery data to create precise AI-Driven prescription mapping
AI-DRIVEN DRONE MAPPING
Tallis Amos Group (TAG) has announced a new partnership with CultiWise, bringing advanced AI-powered drone and satellite mapping technology to farmers across the UK to support smarter, more efficient and sustainable crop protection.
The collaboration enables TAG to offer highly accurate AI-generated prescription maps for variable rate applications of fertiliser, fungicides, growth regulators and seed. Using drone imagery, the system provides reliable AI-driven field data even when satellite imagery is restricted by cloud cover, making it ideally suited to UK farming conditions.
High-resolution multispectral imagery is captured using specialist agricultural drones. This data is then uploaded to the CultiWise platform, where artificial intelligence analyses crop health, growth variation and weeds to create precise, field-specific application maps.
By applying inputs only where they are needed and at the correct rate, farmers can reduce chemical, fertiliser and seed usage by up to 70%, while also seeing potential yield increases of up to 20% when used with variable rate drilling and spraying equipment.
“CultiWise uses artificial intelligence to make efficient decisionmaking,” said Edward Wardroper, CultiWise Specialist at Tallis Amos Group. “The AI technology transforms raw drone data into actionable insights, helping farmers to cut costs, improve crop performance and reduce environmental impact.”
The system is compatible with a wide range of sprayers and drills, from section control booms to individual nozzle control systems, and integrates seamlessly with existing tractor and sprayer software.
AI-powered weed detection enables both ‘green on brown’ and ‘green on green’ identification, allowing targeted spot spraying and precise calculation of product volumes before application.
In addition to weed mapping, CultiWise AI supports plant counting to aid yield forecasting, providing valuable insights during early crop establishment. The technology is suitable for a wide range of crops including winter wheat, maize, oilseed rape, potatoes and onions.
Flexible image sources, including drones such as the Mavic 3 Multispectral, ensure consistent and detailed data capture, while satellite imagery can also be used to create variable rate maps and long-term productivity zones based on historical field performance.
As an authorised UK dealer of CultiWise, Tallis Amos Group provides full setup, training and ongoing technical support through its TAG TECH Team, to maximise the benefits of this AI-driven precision agriculture. UNIQUE JCB LISTENING BENCH
JCB apprentices have created a unique 80th anniversary project at the company’s World Headquarters that invites the public to tune into its past, present, and future.
The team of 15 young engineering, manufacturing and business apprentices designed the innovative ‘listening bench’ for the grounds of the company’s Rocester factory – giving employees, visitors, and the local community the chance to sit, relax and hear JCB’s story.
The bench, designed in the style of Joseph Cyril Bamford’s first ever product – a tipping trailer made out of wartime scrap – has built-in speakers which play recordings at the push of a button, capturing the company’s remarkable story over the past eight decades.
JCB Chairman Anthony Bamford officially unveiled the listening bench and pressed the button to introduce a recording of his father speaking 30 years ago on the company’s 50thanniversary.
Lord Bamford said: “It’s a real thrill to unveil this listening bench and I hope people will enjoy sitting here and listing to stories about JCB. What I think is so clever is the way that our apprentices have integrated speakers into the bench and when I pressed the button, who should be speaking but my father, which was very emotional to hear.”
Over ten weeks, a team of engineering, manufacturing, craft, commercial, finance and marketing apprentices were challenged to design and build the bench with a focus on sustainability, using surplus materials from production lines to keep the project as close to carbon neutral as possible.
OMNIA AND JOHN DEERE STREAMLINE DATA SHARING
An exciting new integration between Omnia digital farming software from Hutchinsons and John Deere Operations Center promises to deliver genuine benefits to farmers through seamless data transfer across the two systems.
The upgrades are the latest in ongoing developments to Omnia which will deliver further efficiency gains for users of both systems through improved workflows, reduced management time and automated, accurate record keeping.
Hutchinsons' Head of Digital Agronomy Lewis McKerrow said that while the data exchange between the two systems is now more streamlined, with some fully automated options, users still retain the flexibility to choose how data is used and shared.
“The transfer of data from Omnia into Operations Center, and back the other way, is now much easier and more closely integrated, yet users of either platform remain fully in control of what they do,” he explained.
Lewis highlighted four main aspects to the latest upgrade:
1. SHARING TASKS/WORK PLANS
Digital 'Tasks' created in Omnia can now be sent directly to Operations Center as 'Work Plans', with no duplication of data entry on either side. As well as details of specific tasks, users can allocate them to individual machines and staff all within Omnia, with further opportunity to review and amend, if required, once in the John Deere system.
“Once the task has been confirmed and the work plan received, the operator has all the information they need to complete the job,” noted Lewis.
Work Plans/Tasks can include anything from a simple cultivation task through to spray plans including tank mix details, or variable rate plans for fertiliser and other inputs.
2. RECORDING FIELD DATA
Once tasks have been completed in the field, data can now be automatically sent
from the machine directly back into Omnia (via Operations Center) within one hour to create an ‘as applied’ operation record.
Users have the option to sync all completed work plans and operations back into Omnia or manually select which to save. For Omnia subscribers, this information automatically adjusts stock records and updates field costings.
3. AUTOMATED YIELD IMPORT
From summer 2026, an upgrade will allow the automated importation of yield data; this will streamline the data transfer from John Deere combine and forage harvesters to ensure data can be available to users at peak times.
4. HARVESTLAB INTEGRATION
The final development is the integration with John Deere’s HarvestLab, allowing a host of additional information to be imported directly from the machine with yield data. HarvestLab currently measures a range of constituents in different crops, such as crude protein, dry matter, sugar and starch content in forage crops, and protein in combinable crops.
John Deere said the integration reflected the growing demand for simpler digital workflows.
Dennis Schrijver, John Deere Precision Tech Specialist, said: “Farmers want their technology to work quietly in the background, without creating extra admin. This integration with Omnia helps remove duplication, reduces the risk of errors and gives users faster access to accurate field data.
“When information flows easily from
WHAT’S NEW
the office to the machine and back again, it supports better planning, stronger compliance and more confident decisionmaking. That is exactly what we are aiming to deliver through John Deere Operations Center.”
MAKING A GENUINE DIFFERENCE
Scottish Borders farmer Graham Innes, Director of A P Innes, said the new work plan functionality between Omnia and John Deere Operations Center has made a “real difference” to managing records on his farm.
“The accuracy of our spraying, seeding and fertiliser applications has improved significantly, simply because the information is captured directly as the work is being done. It takes a lot of the manual input out of the process, which helps reduce the chance of small mistakes creeping in when things are busy, and makes life easier for everyone involved.
“We’re also making much better use of technology that’s already built into the machines, which means operators can stay focused on the job itself; keeping everything running efficiently, working to the right level of detail and planning the day’s logistics.
“At the same time, it has helped the office side of the business run more smoothly, too, with clearer, more reliable records available straight away.”
Hutchinsons and Omnia remain committed to an ongoing programme of development for the system, and details of further integration with other systems is due later this year.

BETTER SPRAYING, LOWER DISEASE RISK
While product choice will always matter, the way sprays are applied is just as important says David Sayell & Richard Witt of Vitifruit Equipment.
After a run of unsettled weather, many growers are already looking ahead and thinking about the disease pressure the coming season could bring. Damp conditions and slower drying times can quickly increase the risk of mildew and rot, placing extra importance on getting spray programmes right from the outset.
While product choice will always matter, the way sprays are applied is just as important. Uneven airflow, poor coverage or excessive drift can all leave gaps in protection – and those gaps are often where disease first takes hold. As a result, more attention is being given to application quality as a practical way to improve control while keeping input costs in check.
Traditional fan sprayers are widely used, but they do not always deliver the most controlled air movement in modern vineyard canopies. Adding a tower fan design that direct air vertically through the row, helping improve penetration from top to bottom and achieving more consistent coverage in the leaf and bunch zone. Better airflow
management also helps reduce turbulence and minimise unnecessary drift.
Coverage itself is another key consideration. The Martignani electrostatic sprayer uses electrically charged droplets to help spray adhere to plant surfaces and wrap around leaves and bunches. This can improve deposition on difficult areas such as leaf undersides while reducing run-off, meaning more of the product stays where it is needed. In practice, growers often find they can work with lower water rates and reduced chemical volumes, helping to lower overall spraying costs without compromising protection.
Drift reduction is also becoming increasingly important, both economically and environmentally. Recirculating systems like the Lipco sprayer enclose the canopy and capture spray that would otherwise be lost, returning it to the tank for reuse. By recycling this drift, chemical use can typically be reduced by around 35%–40%, offering significant long-term savings alongside more consistent application across the row.
As disease pressure becomes less
predictable and input prices continue to rise, improving spray efficiency is proving to be one of the simplest ways to strengthen crop protection. Better airflow, improved coverage and reduced losses all help make each pass more effective.
Ultimately, reducing disease risk isn’t only about what goes into the tank, it’s about how well it reaches the crop.

Haynes Bros. Ltd has acquired Mike Garwood Ltd’s Case IH business at Alton, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight, building on the company’s recent successful acquisition of Ernest Doe’s Case IH business at Woodchurch, near Ashford in Kent.
The latest move to acquire the Case IH business of Mike Garwood Ltd has been supported by CNH, which is rolling out a new network strategy to consolidate its network where possible in order to give franchise partners more scale.
Haynes Agricultural Ltd, the agricultural subsidiary of Haynes Bros. Ltd, currently operates the CNH New Holland franchise from depots in Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and Berkshire and the CNH Case IH franchise in Kent. This acquisition gives Haynes further scale with both CNH brands in the west of the company’s territory, and it will also shortly be adding the New Holland and JCB franchise to the newly acquired business on the Isle of Wight.
consistent footprint and reliable performance across uneven terrain, both during field operations and road transport.
Its square shoulder design further maximizes the footprint and contributes to excellent stability, while the reinforced sidewall construction enhances lateral stability, particularly during road transportation.
Efficiency is a core element of the Terraguard design. Its optimised VF radial construction and tread geometry help reduce rolling resistance, enabling smoother operations and improved energy efficiency.
At the same time, the tire’s ability to distribute weight more evenly across a larger contact area limits soil compaction, helping protect soil structure and support higher operational productivity over long working days.
A distinctive sawtoothtread pattern further enhances performance by balancing rolling
efficiency with controlled traction, stability, reduced vibration and reliability across a wide range of cultivation tasks and operating conditions.
Mitas Terraguard integrates load capacity, operational efficiency and soil protection into a single implement-tire solution. The range is initially available in size VF 295/75R22.5 TL IMP 158D, with additional sizes planned for future release.
LEGACY CONTINUED
Bob Garwood, son of the late Mike Garwood, who died recently after devoting most of his life to the business, said: “My father was keen to see the continuity of the business he had successfully built up over many years. I am therefore glad we have found another well-respected and longestablished family business to continue his legacy and to start a new chapter in the business’ development.”
Haynes Bros. Ltd Group Managing Director James Broadley said the company was “pleased to acquire this particularly good and successful Case IH business that Mike Garwood owned and ran for so many years”, adding: “We look forward to working with the highly skilled team at both Alton and the Isle of Wight and to adding further brands to their portfolio of franchises.”
Adrian Woods, Haynes Agricultural
Operations Director, commented: “Having spent a good deal of time with the Garwood team at both locations, I feel this is a natural fit for both businesses and I am pleased to welcome our new colleagues into the Haynes Agricultural fold and to further developing the business at both locations.” The move was described as “another important milestone in our company’s development” by Haynes Bros. Ltd Chairman and CEO Andrew Haynes, who said: “As a 236 year-old family business, I am pleased that we are still finding ways to expand the Haynes brand to give us more scale in what are highly competitive markets.” He added that the move would “enable us to better support our farming customers and provide them with even greater value through increased economies of scale”.
NEW LARGE-SCALE MOWER WITH SWATHING AUGERS
Following the introduction of the first large-scale Claas mower with swath augers, the Disco 9300 Direct Swather, in 2024, Claas has now added the larger Disco 1100 Direct Swather, which has a working width of up to 10.70m, which can be used in conjunction with the four-rotor swather to create a swath with a working width of up to 21m and thus optimally utilise even the most powerful forage harvesters.
MAXIMUM FLEXIBILITY WITH FOUR PLACEMENT STRATEGIES AND LOW DRIVE REQUIREMENTS
Like the Disco 9300 Direct Swather, the new Disco 1100 Direct Swather also allows four mowing and placement strategies and thus a unique adaptation to the harvesting conditions:
1. Complete wide spreading for effective, fast wilting with large quantities of forage.
2. Mowing with integrated centre swath placement for fast and effective field clearance without tedders and swathers and/or for GPS harvesting or autumn residual area harvesting in a single pass.
3. 21m mowing on 13m bed placement (combined swath/wide spreading) for active control of the wilting process and / or optimum utilisation of the forage harvester.
4. Mowing with one-sided swathing for field edge clearing.
Thanks to the absence of conditioners, the Disco 1100 Direct Swather can be operated with tractors from 220hp and is therefore extremely economical. The range of applications extends from high-yielding green rye for biogas and forage production to the gentle mowing of lucerne and low growth rates in grassland cuts. With low growth rates, especially in regions with low rainfall and a high number of hours of sunshine, the absence of the conditioner prevents the crop from wilting too quickly to actively control the dry matter content. This advantage also comes into play in lucerne mowing, where the crop should be prevented from bleaching for quality reasons. Thanks to the swivelling augers, the drying process can be controlled independently of the crop and the placement can be optimally adapted to the growth quantity and the subsequent harvest chain.
UNIQUE CROP FLOW WITH CONICAL SWATH AUGERS
With their particularly close and parallel arrangement to the mower discs, the conical Claas augers in the arms enable a constant and reliable crop intake, even with uneven crop growth. In addition, the conical design allows more crop to be conveyed towards the centre , as more crop can be removed as the auger diameter increases. In addition to the conical design of the auger, the conical auger housing with the integrated rear conveyor pocket is also unique. Thanks to the extended
installation space, this significantly increases the conveying volume and therefore also the throughput capacity. The optimised coordination of the mower bar, conveyor augers and conveyor pockets on the DISCO 1100 Direct Swather results in a smooth, blockage-free crop flow with low power requirements and optimum fuel efficiency. Crop build-up is prevented by shear bars and blades at the auger outlet – a guarantee for blockage-free work.
Swathing plates attached to the centre console or central support guide the crop flow under the mower frame. Additional hydraulically pivoting and adjustable swath curtains also prevent material from being thrown over the centre to the other side of the mower when swathing on one side. The result: uniform and homogeneous swaths under all conditions for an efficient downstream harvesting chain.
SWIVELLING AUGERS FOR MAXIMUM PLACEMENT
When used without a conditioner, it is important to be able to utilise the full mowing width as a wilting area if required. Thanks to the external auger drive on the Disco 1100 Direct Swather, the augers can be swivelled out hydraulically at any time to deposit the crop over the full mowing width, half the mowing width or completely onto a centre swath. The augers can be conveniently controlled individually or in parallel via Isobus – even during the harvest in the field.
With half-sided wide spreading, 21m of mowing width can be deposited from two adjacent passes to 13m – ideal for the following Liner 4800 four-rotor swather, which, with this "21 to 13" mowing strategy, has to cover around 32km less distance per 100 ha of land (compared to the previously common method with a 12.50m wide four-rotor swather) compared to wide spreading at full working width, as does the forage harvester following at the end of the harvest chain. In practice, this means a time saving of around three hours in the forage harvesting chain. As around 65% more forage enters the swath, the forage harvester is also better utilised – the thicker swaths with lower driving speed also improve the chop quality and reduce fuel consumption. The process therefore saves diesel and time while protecting the soil.
TELESCOPIC BOOM WITH SPRING ELEMENTS
The telescopic booms of the Disco 1100 Direct Swather, familiar from the Disco 1100 C / RC Business Disco, enable infinitely variable adjustment of the working width from 9.70m to 10.70m for maximum flexibility, whereby the arms can be adjusted independently or synchronously, thus always ensuring optimum overlap in tight bends or when working on side slopes. Heavy duty arms with wear-optimised slide plates ensure maximum stability and a long service life. The automatic adjustment by the spring-loaded sliding elements makes manual setting superfluous.
Despite the Disco 1100 Direct swather's impressive working width of up to 10.70m and the 3.80m wide MAX CUT mower bars, the mower remains under 4.00m when in the height in transport position. This enables safe, comfortable and roadworthy operation.
EAST SUSSEX FARMER USES REMOTE MONITORING TO TRANSFORM HIS WATER USE
An East Sussex farmer has been using a new digital technology to remotely monitor water use across his farm and identify leaks in real-time through a phone app.
Duncan Ellis of Church Farm, a 1200ha arable and livestock farming operation in Lullington, East Sussex, partnered with South East Water and ADAS to trial a new remote water metering system which could remotely monitor their utility mains water usage, both to their main farm buildings and to livestock troughs for 800 breeding ewes and 40 suckler cows grazing across the South Downs.
Managing water consumption across such an extensive area has always proved a challenge for the Church Farm team. Duncan explained: “Leaks in pipes and troughs could easily go undetected for a long time. Manual checks were the only way for us to identify problems or pre-empt our bills, but given the remote location and spread of our animals, these checks demanded a significant amount of staff time.”
When South East Water approached Duncan to trial a new remote water metering system that could provide real-time data on water supply in multiple locations, removing the need for manual readings, he readily agreed.
“We have long been committed to minimising the impact of our operations and have adopted a circular economy approach to how we farm. We’ve done what we can to reuse water, through rainwater harvesting for example, but what we still lacked was a costeffective solution to monitor water use across the whole business, including our on-farm brewery. Without a way to measure our use,
we were struggling to manage it.”
Steve Howe, Operational Catchment Lead at South East Water, said: “Climatic changes and an expanding human population are increasing the importance of conserving water resources. Agricultural businesses have been identified as a key group where water use can be high, and monitoring is challenging due to remote locations with no mains power or phone signal. We feel it's important to try and address this and thanks to Duncan, we were able to trial how remote monitoring of water use using specialised meters could be implemented on a farm setting.”
With the support of ADAS, Duncan installed seven new water monitoring meters - six of which are powered by solar PV panels - across the farm. Each water meter transmits water flow data over a 2G connection to an app Duncan can access
from home, allowing him to monitor and review water consumption remotely.
Tom Brassington, ADAS Principal Agriculture Consultant who independently assessed the technology for South East Water, commented: “There were some minor teething issues at the start. One of the solar-powered meters was installed in a low, shaded position on a roadside verge and didn’t have sufficient power to send a signal, so we replaced it with a higher-output PV cell. We also installed protective casing around cables to protect from rodent damage and fenced off units to prevent animals from bumping into them.”
Soon after installation, the technology quickly highlighted a problem that had long gone undetected.
Tom explained, “We noticed that one meter next to a rental cottage on the farm was recording a high level of water consumption, even overnight. An investigation revealed a valve leak in the garden, which the farm repaired. On two other occasions, the technology allowed us to identify a burst pipe very soon after it happened, so the water loss was minimal.”
Given the results of this initial trial, South East Water believes this digital metering technology – a Spherag system, currently marketed in the UK by Wroot Water – could revolutionise how farmers manage their water use.
Following the success of this trial, South East Water is looking to establish a cluster group of interested farmers to expand the project further. Any interested farmers in the region are welcome to get in contact via email: steve.howe@southeastwater.co.uk
NEW TWO-IN-ONE CLAMP SHEET AIMS TO REDUCE SILAGE LOSSES AND SAVE TIME
A new two-in-one silage clamp sheet could help farmers save silage from spoilage on the top and shoulders of their clamp.
The Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS) in the UK, cite average dry matter losses of 25% under commercial silage making conditions, which in round bale terms, equates to around 250 wrapped bales from every 1,000 otherwise lost due to ineffective sheeting.
With more than 60% of farmers applying only a top sheet to their silage clamp, many are now opting for a combined dual sheet approach to increase protection of forage with no additional labour.
Visqueen, announced the launch of their new one-step Visqueen Synergy clamp sheet, combining a vacuum underlayer sheet with a thicker quality top sheet in one product.
Lloyd Dawson, Visqueen’s sales director for the UK and Ireland said: “it has become increasingly common for farmers to neglect proper sheeting of their clamp due to a lack of labour and time, which is where Visqueen Synergy comes in.”
He explained: “The product combines two crucial processes, giving farmers the benefit of both the vacuum sheet and top sheet in one time-efficient application.
“The top sheet is made from a thicker green-black material, providing enhanced strength and durability.
“The flexible underlayer sheet in the two-in-one process forms
a vacuum effect, creating an improved oxygen barrier to enhance fermentation and prevent spoilage.”
“With silage worth £60-70 per tonne this year, a 25% loss to spoilage in a 1,000 tonne clamp could mean a financial loss of up to £17,500.
“The dry summer of 2025 served as a stark reminder of the importance of maximising forage in preparation for more challenging periods. Failing to do so puts huge pressure on winter feed supplies.”
LOVE AT FIRST DIG
Giant JCB display stops Londoners in tracks.
A full-sized JCB digger dressed up like a collector’s scale model stole a few hearts on Valentine’s Day – and stopped Londoners in their tracks outside an iconic railway station.
The ‘JCB Backhoe in a Box’ drew huge crowds when it was first unveiled at the digger maker’s World HQ in Rocester, Staffordshire. Now the capital is digging the love for this innovative display as it arrives in London – proving romance really does come in all shapes and sizes, even giant, beautifully boxed ones.
The JCB Backhoe in a Box – a full-sized digger presented as though it were a scale model – has been carefully dismantled in Staffordshire and, transported south, before being lovingly reassembled and unveiled on Valentine’s Day outside King’s Cross railway station.
The striking installation was on display for a full week, giving commuters, visitors and Valentine’s Day couples the perfect spot for a memorable photo. Standing nearly 15 feet high and more than 20 feet across in its special packaging, the life-size display is impossible to miss. Visitors to King’s Cross can enjoy the exhibit day or night,
with the installation illuminated after dark to ensure the magic continues long after the evening commute.
JCB Deputy Chairman George Bamford said: “There’s no better day to celebrate something you love than Valentine’s Day - and Britain has loved the JCB backhoe loader for more than 70 years.”
JCB Worldwide Events Manager Alice Taylor has helped oversee the installation. She said: “King’s Cross is always buzzing, but this installation brings something truly unique to the area. It’s fantastic to engineer some romance in London by unveiling the Backhoe in a Box in London on Valentine’s Day.”
Its appearance in London marks the start of a UK-wide tour celebrating both JCB innovation and the enduring appeal of one of Britain’s best-known machines – invented by JCB in 1953. The next stop will be the Cheltenham Festival in March. First unveiled at JCB’s World HQ as part of the company’s 80th anniversary celebrations, the Backhoe in a Box is a playful nod to the popular 1:32 scale models cherished by enthusiasts.
RETROFIT VENTILATION RIDGE
Galebreaker launches a Livestock environment specialist, Galebreaker, has launched VentRidge – a cost-effective ventilation system designed to exhaust warm, contaminated air up to four times more effectively than traditional cranked roof ridge tile designs.
VentRidge has been engineered to maximise the effects of natural ventilation and provide a ‘fit for purpose’ solution for both new build, and particularly, existing UK farm buildings.
Warm, humid air forced upwards by the ‘stack effect’ of a fully stocked cattle building must have an adequate exhaust route to avoid being recirculated down through the building. The build up of humidity and moisture is a direct cause of BRD and Heat stress related illness in older stock.
Galebreaker’s UK and Ireland sales manager Will Johnson identifies that many livestock buildings suffer from insufficient air flow, frequently providing only 20% of the natural ventilation required.
“A well-designed ridge should be a key element of any natural ventilation strategy, because if dirty air can’t leave the building efficiently, there are real implications for
animal health and productivity,” said Mr Johnson. “We developed VentRidge as a costeffective solution that can easily be retrofitted to ensure better ventilation for existing livestock buildings.”
MAXIMISED VENTILATION
VentRidge has been designed with aerodynamic performance in mind to maximise the benefits of crosswinds. As wind passes across the top of the ridge, the baffles encourage the airflow to accelerate and create a low-pressure zone. That low pressure increases draw – effectively boosting the ‘suction’ that draws stale air out of the building.
PRACTICAL AND SELF-FIT
VentRidge installation can be carried out from inside the building, helping minimise the need for expensive roof safety netting and it comes with a ten-year warranty.
“One of the biggest barriers to upgrading ridges in older buildings is the difficulty (and cost) of working at height on fragile roof surfaces. VentRidge removes the need for extensive structural work, expensive mechanical ventilation, or rebuilding a shed from scratch,” added Mr Johnson.
“If you’re investing in better housing conditions, the ridge is one of the highestimpact places to start – because it’s the part that lets the building breathe.”
