Welcome to the 7th annual Star Gate Cattle Bull Sale. It has been a great time to be in the cattle business, and I’m not convinced that some of our best days in this market aren’t still out ahead of us. We appreciate our customers both old and new who have weathered the storm with us from 2019 till 2026. Talk about a change for the better.
This bull offering reflects our program goals. Essentially your registered Angus bulls that will be sold here today are geared towards making females with added fleshing ability, longevity, and fertility. As you’ll notice there’s not a lot of new cutting-edge sires we use; simply because they’re unproven and we’re not willing to gamble with our program or yours. The SimAngus bulls will be more of a dual purpose with added performance and growth. As always there will be some outliers in both sets that can lean to either end of the spectrum. We also have a large selection of bulls that will work on those heifers you’re keeping back. Look for our supplement sheet online or printed sale day that will have the latest, genomically enhanced EPDs for the registered angus bulls and those individuals that I would personally recommend for heifers.
We also want our development strategy to match our breeding philosophy. This is a primary driver to our 2-year-old only philosophy. We want to watch these bulls grow up and see what’s working. Every year there’s an additional 10% or so of the mob that we cut or cull from yearling to the 2-year-old mark. I think that’s a big part of why we can warranty these bulls for four years and not have much of any trouble. During that development these cattle will primarily graze or eat long hay. In times of feeding these cattle will not see any rations that exceed a 44 mega cal and zero grain. This would be like what you would feed a stocker calf preparing to go to grass. In the end that’s what we’re preparing them to do, go to work and go to grass.
With a new time, new sale format, new place, hopefully some new faces and all the old ones too; we did have to sell the heifers that we have historically sold in this sale due to the date change. We apologize for that if we had somebody who was banking on us. Also new for this year you’ll notice that every bull to sell here today will have a PAP score. We were able to send these bulls to loa Utah at 7,000 feet in the spring for 60+ days. We kept the development pretty well the same and were able to get a PAP test before the ride back home to Dietrich. We want to thank every one of you for making the drive or being on the internet with us for today. Means a lot and we hope that any business you do with us is of benefit to both parties.
As part of our aim to provide bulls that will withstand the roughest conditions and be profitable to ranchers, we offer the following warranty: All 2-year-old bulls sold by Star Gate Cattle will be guaranteed against injury that renders them incapable of breeding or to be a potential breeder, except those circumstances listed below.
This guarantee only applies to the original purchaser. This guarantee also only applies to bulls that have been maintained, at all times, by the original purchase for standard beef breeding practices and under normal breeding conditions. Bulls must also have been maintained in accordance with good animal husbandry methods and management.
All claims shall be resolved in the following manner:
The guaranteed credit shall equal the original purchase price of the bull multiplied by the appropriate percentage (based on when the injury occurred), less an agreed upon salvage value. This amount shall be credited to the owner for the purchase of one bull from either the present inventory of Star Gate Cattle or at the first proceeding Star Gate Cattle bull sale. If the credit is not used at either of those times, then it will become void.
The amount credited is as follows:
• 100% from the time of purchase until bull is turned out to cows (no later than July 1st)
• 80% from 1st turn-out through October 1st of the same year.
• 60% throughout 2nd year
• 40% throughout 3rd year
• 20% throughout 4th year ending with the 4th anniversary of original purchase
To make a claim, the original owner must contact Star Gate Cattle within 4 days of the discovery of the injury. They must also possess a document of the injury, signed by a licensed veterinarian. Star Gate Cattle reserves the right to have an agent of their own choice verify the injury and documentation of such. If any claims are denied by Star Gate Cattle, the original owner must then respond with a written legal explanation of why the guarantee should apply or forfeit all rights to any guarantee on the bull in question.
Exceptions not covered by this warranty include, but are not limited to:
Injuries or loss caused by motor vehicles, equipment, or trains. Injuries or loss from drowning, predation, or caused by acts of Nature/God (lightning, tornados, blizzard, bitter cold, fires). Injuries or loss from disease, feed intake, or poisoning. Injuries or loss from man-made causes. These include acts of war, acts of terrorism, radiation/nuclear, confiscation, quarantine, theft, malicious or willful injury to animals, carelessness, or neglect.
In the event of sudden death an autopsy must be performed within 24 hours by a licensed veterinarian to determine cause. Without a written report and indentified cause we cannot offer any compensation.

All Angus bulls will have verified DNA on file with the AAA and will be eligible for registration unless otherwise noted. Buyers wishing to have registrations finalized and transferred into their name will need to leave their AAA member number with the sale clerk. All SimAngus bulls will not be registered but can be with arrangements made prior to sale day. Please call Gray @208-481-2857 for that.
EPDS:
EPDS will be published on the sale supplement sheet for the registered Angus bulls. Doing so allows us to get the latest update and provide the most accurate numbers to our customers on sale day. SimAngus bulls will not have any EPDs. EPDs are a limited and finite tool to begin with, and when you add crossbreeding, we don’t believe they add any selection value for our customers.

All bulls are protected under the stipulations in our 4-Year-Warranty. Any event outside those outlined in said warranty is the responsibility of the buyer and their insurance.
All females are checked by a licensed veterinarian to establish overall health, age and reproductive status. We stand behind these females to be just as they are advertised.
All animals become the liability of the buyer at time of sale.

We’ll just jump right out with what I feel is the best bull in the offering. We still have some Charlo straws and we use it sparingly. If I could go back and stash more straws in a tank I would. He’s masculine, he’s long, he’s stout, he’s bold in his shape without becoming coarse. His combination of fleshing ability and real growth are hard to find in a single package.
