WELCOME
NEW MEMBERS In Jesus Christ, God calls people to faith and to membership in the Church, the body of Christ. The baptism (or reaffirmation of baptism) of those who enter the covenant of membership upon their own profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior witnesses to the truth that God’s gift of grace calls forth a response of faithfulness. (Book of Order, G-1.0301) Today we are welcoming these 12 new members and their families through: Public profession of faith Certificate of transfer Reaffirmation of faith They were formally received into membership by vote of our Session on June 8, 2025 during a called meeting. We praise and thank God for choosing to add to the body of Christ gathered as Vienna Presbyterian Church!
Margaret Andrade is thrilled to be joining such a warm and welcoming church as a new member. Having lived in Vienna for a few years now, she started coming to VPC in search of community, and she very much found her community. She is so thankful to call this church her spiritual home. Margaret and her husband Oscar are the parents of two little girls, Anna James (3) and Luci (6 months). As a family, they hope to be involved in local outreach events, as well as VPC's wonderful children's ministry. Margaret has a fondness for the word "fellowship", so one of her favorite verses is Acts 2:42.
Dean Cheng is delighted to be joining VPC through the confession of faith. He is drawn to VPC’s sense of community. Dean has worked with VPC’s hypothermia project in the past, thanks to his wife Sharon, who has been a member of VPC for nine years. Dean is a long-time China analyst, even longer than he and Sharon have been Vienna residents, moving here in 2001. One of his favorite passages is Isaiah 40:28-31.
David Evans is happy to become a member of VPC and plans to participate in one of the ministries that helps the homeless, needy or possibly our war veterans. Having attended several other churches in the area, he and his wife, Nicki, love VPC’s friendliness and focus on the family. David and Nicki have been married for three years. David's favorite verse is Philippians 4:13.
Nicki Evans is very happy to be a member of VPC. She grew up in the Presbyterian church as a young child in Korea. She is grateful to be able to serve VPC with her husband, David. She loves cooking and serving people. Nicki and her husband, David, have been married for three and half years. Philippians 4:8,9 has always been Nicki’s favorite verse.
Zachary “Zach” Olmsted is delighted to be joining the VPC family and looks forward to becoming more involved in such a great community. Transferring from his hometown church where he was confirmed, Zach appreciates that VPC fosters a similar welcoming and energetic environment. Serving in a caring fellowship means a lot to Zach, as he knows it will further grow his relationship with God. Zach hopes to volunteer in VPC-organized and community-oriented activities along with his fiancé, Nicole. Philippians 4:13 is Zach’s favorite Bible verse and provides inspiration through his faith in God.
Calvin and Julie Scott are happy to formally join VPC after attending since 2017 (interrupted by a short detour to Amman, Jordan for Calvin’s work with the State Department). Calvin and Julie have three children: Ethan (13), Connor (11), and Liam (8), and they are all drawn to the energy of VPC’s worship services and the church’s engagement in the broader community. Calvin and Julie have volunteered at CLUB, Hypothermia Awareness Week, Bags of Love, and in meal preparation for The Lamb Center.
Calvin, who previously served as an elder at Germantown Presbyterian Church in his hometown of Germantown, TN, has attended the Thursday Night Dads group, and they’ve both really enjoyed the Sunday morning Parent Connect class. All the Scotts are looking forward to continuing their engagement at VPC. Calvin and Julie love Jeremiah 29:11 (one of the readings at their wedding) and believe that God truly does have a plan for all of us.
Brea Timmerman is joining Vienna Presbyterian Church by reaffirmation of faith, alongside her husband of six years, Derek, and their two young daughters, Helena (2) and Diana (8 months). She is excited to raise their children in a loving Christian community. Brea is energized by how VPC opens its doors to the wider community and looks forward to contributing to the church’s mission of showing the love of Christ to others. Her favorite Bible passage is Ecclesiastes 3:1–8, which reminds her of God’s presence and purpose in every season of life.
Derek Timmerman is grateful to be joining VPC by reaffirmation of faith. He and his wife, Brea, are putting down roots in the Vienna community and are eager to grow within a church that reflects their shared values of compassion, hope, and striving to live out the Gospel. They are also excited to give their very young daughters, Helena and Diana, the opportunity to experience the love of Christ from an early age. Derek hopes to contribute to VPC through his professional skills in software development/ IT, and by volunteering in neighbor-to-neighbor care efforts. Galatians 6:9 is a source of encouragement to Derek.
Julia and Tom Ulen are very happy to be joining VPC by letter of transfer from First Presbyterian of Champaign, IL where they had lived since 1977. They have been married for 51 years and have two adult sons, with beautiful families. Their older son and his family are regular attendees of VPC, and on many visits to see them, Julia and Tom always joined them at VPC on Sunday mornings. In February, Julia and Tom moved to Vienna, and live next door to their older son and his family. They have always loved the message of God’s and Jesus’s love that this congregation so eloquently displays and look forward to participating in VPC’s many fellowship activities and outreach activities to the community.
Ying Ye is delighted to join VPC and strengthen her faith. She is drawn to VPC's governance and engagement and appreciates its local community service and international ministries. As a nonprofit expert, Ying is considering supporting VPC's international ministry. Ying, her husband Yan, and her daughter Anqi moved to Vienna in 2023. Ying is the first Christian in her family. The quote from Micah 6:8, "Act Justly, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly," has always been Ying's favorite verse.
