‘BETWEEN THE WORLD AND ME’ BY TA-NEHISI COATES
‘AND SO WE PUT GOLDFISH IN THE POOL’ BY MAKOTO NAGAHISA
‘Between the World and Me’ is a 2015 nonfiction book written by American author Ta-Nehisi Coates and published by Spiegel & Grau. It was written by Coates as a letter to his thenteenage son about his perception of what the feelings, symbolism, and realities associated with being Black in the United States are.
‘And So We Put Goldfish in the Pool’ is a 2017 short film directed by Makoto Nagahisa. Based on a true story about four 15-year-old girls in Japan who put 400 goldfish in a swimming pool, this short explores coming-of-age while being trapped in a small town and the existentialism that can come from it.
This is one of my personal favorite books because a lot of the themes really resonate with me. Defently a great read!
I rewatched this film when I was visiting my grandparents in Japan two weeks ago, and I encourage you all to check it out if you have a spare half hour!
