Membership Information

Membership is limited to faculty, staff, retirees, students and degree holding alumni of Georgia State University. Current students are members through their student fees.

Access

All members will sign a waiver with initial membership. PantherCards are required to enter and exit. To request accommodations, please contact the Access and Accommodations Center at access.gsu.edu. During the Spring Semester, the Student Recreation Center will have PantherCard Controlled Access at the Front Doors (Piedmont entrances) during our operating hours Monday-Friday before 7:30 a.m. and after 8 p.m. and all-day Saturday and Sunday. The back doors (Parking Deck entrance) will be under PantherCard Controlled Access during our operating hours all-day Monday-Sunday. During Semester Breaks and Finals Week, the Student Recreation Center will have PantherCard Controlled Access at all entrances during our operating hours all-day Monday-Sunday. During these times an active PantherCard will be required to access the facility.

Locker Rental

A limited number of lockers will be available starting at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, January 12. One locker per member, per semester.

Guest Fees

Members may bring one guest per visit. Guest fees are $7 per visit. Guests aged 7 and under are free. Each guest 18 and older will be required to sign a waiver and present a form of government issued photo identification. Photos of government issued photo identification will not be accepted. The guest must be accompanied by the member throughout the visit. The guest will not have access to program registration or programs.

Courses that have not met the minimum enrollment requirements will be cancelled, and refunds will be issued.

Certifications:

All certifications are given through the American Red Cross.

Lifeguarding

Prerequisites:

Participants must complete a prerequisite swimming skills evaluation on the first day of class, which includes a swim-tread-swim sequence and a timed vent.They will swim 150 yards using the front crawl or breaststroke (no back or side strokes; swim goggles allowed), tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs, and then swim an additional 50 yards. In the timed event (1:40), participants will swim 20 yards, perform a surface dive to retrieve a 10-pound object from 10 feet deep, then swim 20 yards back on their back while holding the object at the surface.They must exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Blended Learning:

This course includes required online coursework that must be completed before the first-class session. Failure to complete the online portion will result in course failure without a refund.

Certification:

To earn certification, participants must meet all prerequisites, attend every class, complete all activities, pass the written exam and final skill assessments. Failure to achieve certification results in forfeit of registration fee.

Beginner 1 is a class for beginners to conquer their fear of water and learn freestyle stroke in a group setting. Skills - water fear, floating, glides, freestyle stroke, treading water, and water competency test.

Swim for Exercise is a class for swimmers who know basic front crawl and can pass a water competency test on the first day. Skills - interval training, stroke refinement, and pacing strategies. Great for Beginner 1 graduates, and those looking to level up their skills!

AquaJam

Dance into the fun with AquaJam, a high-energy collaboration between our Aquatics and Group Fitness! Inspired by our AquaFit Class, this fun event will blend music, movement, and water resistance for a 60-minute class followed by fun & games. Come make some waves, fun for all!

Swim the Blue Line

Aquatic Center

Swim the Blue Line is a self-paced swimming challenge designed for recreational swimmers looking for a fun, goal-oriented way to stay active. Cover 3.7 miles (6,512 yards)—the equivalent of swimming the GSU Blue Line route—at your own pace throughout the semester. Complete the distance, and earn a commemorative Swim the Blue Line giveaway. Dive in, track your progress, and make a splash this semester!

Sauna

Hours of Operation:

The sauna closes alongside the Aquatic Center, 15 minutes prior to the facility closing.

Indulge in relaxation at our Aquatic Center's sauna! Available throughout our operating hours, the sauna invites you to unwind and rejuvenate whenever you desire. Enjoy the soothing steam in 10-minute increments, allowing you to tailor your experience to fit your schedule.

Achieve an inside understanding of your body composition assessment with InBody Technology. InBody provides detailed insights into your muscle mass, body fat percentage, and a better understanding of what is on the inside. Typically takes 15 minutes with measurements and conversation with trainers. Registration Required.

Nutrition Counseling With Pawsitive Nutrition

Elevate your well-being with personalized nutrition counseling in partnership with the GSU Nutrition Department.The nutrition team will guide you through offering practical advice and customized strategies to help you achieve and maintain a balanced and nourishing lifestyle.

• In-person and Virtual Nutrition Consultations are available on Wednesdays.

• Services include individualized goal setting such as increasing muscle mass, mindful eating, portion control, improving food choices, and more.

• Body composition analysis using state of the art InBody380 available for In-Person appointments only.

Equipment Orientation

Embark on a journey of equipment discovery with our "Meet the Machines" orientation session. This 45-minute session, led by our knowledgeable trainers, introduces you to the gym's wide array of equipment, ensuring you feel confident and comfortable navigating strength and cardio machines. Drop in participation is welcome during the trial period only. After the trial period, participants must register to continue clinic participation.

Refunds:

Registration and payment are required to attend clinics.

Clinics that do not meet the 3 person minimum enrollment by February 1 will be canceled and refunds will be issued. Participants will be notified by email of cancellations or changes.

From isolations, grooves, and classic moves, this clinic will break it down step by step to help participants build confidence in their rhythm, freestyling capabilities, and learning choreography. No prior experience needed.

Great for both beginners and experienced dancers, this clinic will help increase the strength, endurance, and flexibility required for ballet.

This beginner-friendly clinic will teach participants basic footwork, rhythm, and partner work. No prior experience needed.

Our personal training staff will teach fundamental movement patterns, proper form, and provide guided strength training with weight room exposure. Learn to structure your own training routines and programs. For those looking to gain foundational instruction.

This clinic blends jazz techniques with musicality, isolations, turns, and across-the-floor choreography. No prior experience needed.

Belly Dance Basics 6:15 -

Shimmy, swirl, and roll! This clinic explores the basics of belly dance, including hip movements, isolations, and fluid transitions, set to Middle Eastern and North African music.

Ballet Combinations 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Forfeit Fee Policy:

For league sports, teams will be required to pay a $30 fee if a team forfeits a game. If the team forfeits a game, the captain will be sent a notification through IMLeagues informing them that the team must make the $30 online payment in order to remain eligible to participate. If no forfeits occur, no payment is required.

*Captains must take tests and be responsible for forfeit payment(s).

Climbing Comp

Spring Break: Utah National Park Tour

Join us out West for an unforgettable National Parks hiking adventure! This guided trip will take you deep into the breathtaking landscapes of Utah, where we'll explore Canyonlands, Arches, and Capitol Reef National Parks through invigorating day hikes of up to 8 miles each day. Registration includes all necessary permits, lodging, group gear, and professional instruction. Note: airfare is not

included and travel insurance is recommended. Participants must arrange flights that align with our designated trip meetup at Salt Lake City International Airport. Detailed flight guidelines will be provided upon registration. A non-refundable deposit of $200 is due by February 16, with final payment required by March 6. See website for price and more details.

To ensure this trip is a good fit, attendance at a mandatory pre-trip meeting and conditioning day hike is required. Inability to participate in this pre-trip event may result in forfeiture of your spot and deposit. Prior participation in select TTE trips may be considered in lieu of this requirement.

Bike Services

At the Touch the Earth Rental center, we offer commuter bike rentals for a maximum rental of three days. Helmets, locks and lights are provided. We also offer tube sales and referrals to local bike shops for bike repairs you may need.

Parking For Equipment Loading And Unloading

Customers may park temporarily for free behind the Student Recreation Center in the space marked “Touch the Earth.” To gain access, inform the parking attendant you are a Touch the Earth customer. You will be able to park in the provided spaces and given a voucher that must be validated by TTE personnel in order to exit. Do not park on the curb.

Rental Policies

• Reservations can be made up to five days in advance. Payment will be due upon pick up.

• All rentals priced on per night charge, no modifications to this rate will be made.

• A $1 per item per night late fee is charged in addition to the daily rental fee. Exception: Bikes are charged $10 per night.

• Upon return, all items will receive a full inspection. Pending the number of returns, inspection could take place within a week of return.

• For equipment that needs to be repaired or cleaned, you will be charged $15/ hour, up to original cost of the equipment. Fees associated with these costs will be assessed within a week of equipment return.

• Failure to pay late fees or damages may result in a hold onto your account or suspended rental privileges.

Guidelines

Group exercise classes are FREE and open to all current Georgia State students and employees. Participants must bring their current PantherCard for class entry. Participants must wear appropriate workout attire to the exercise activity. Only closed toe, non-marking athletic shoes are permitted. No boots, flip flops or sandals.
