PUBLIC ART EXPERIENCE ON THE K AT Y T R A I L
The KTX Biennial is Texas’ first public art biennial launching in Spring 2027 along Dallas’ premier urban greenbelt park, the Katy Trail. The Katy Trail is widely recognized as one of the greatest assets of the City of Dallas, with more than two million unique visitors enjoying the Trail annually. Guest curated by The Marilyn Lenox Curator of the 2027 KTX Biennial, Jovanna Venegas (SculptureCenter, New York), the Inaugural Biennial will present works from nearly a dozen living artists from around the world and will activate the 3.5-mile Katy Trail as an open-air site of discovery. Free and accessible to all, the KTX Biennial will engage millions of in-person visitors, as well as art lovers worldwide, through public on-the-Trail, online, and digital activities; educational programs, such as conversations with artists; and partnerships with local institutions. This rotating outdoor exhibition, on the Trail for 18 months, will elevate Dallas, an international hub for contemporary art, and is rooted in local community, the landscape, and shared public space. The Biennial’s Opening will coincide with the April 2027 Dallas Art Fair schedule. The Inaugural KTX Biennial will include two major events: the 2026 Patron Dinner and Art Preview on November 12 at Mirador restaurant in downtown Dallas, when Ms. Venegas will provide an exclusive look at the planned Biennial artworks, and the April 17, 2027 Biennial Opening Day Walk and Talk, a free and open-to-all event embodying the spirit of public art on the Katy Trail.
