A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR For 28 years, Friends of the Katy Trail has worked alongside this community to transform what was once an abandoned rail corridor into one of Dallas' most treasured public spaces. It is hard to imagine that the original proponents of the project could have envisioned what the Katy Trail has become today.

Over time, the Katy Trail has become much more than a linear park. It has served as a catalyst for billions of dollars in economic development, helped foster countless running clubs and community groups that connect Dallasites with one another, encouraged healthier lifestyles, and strengthened the sense of place that makes our City so vibrant.

This past year was another remarkable one for Friends of the Katy Trail. Together, we enhanced the Trail's landscape, advanced important capital improvements, expanded programs and partnerships, and strengthened the philanthropic support that ensures the Trail will thrive for generations to come. None of this would be possible without the dedication of our Staff and Board of Directors, generous donors, committed volunteers, corporate partners, and the countless people who make the Katy Trail part of their lives.

At its heart, the Katy Trail remains a green oasis weaving through the center of urban Dallas. What I love most about the Trail is that it doesn't prescribe how you should experience it. Instead, it quietly meets you where you are. Always ready to offer a walk beneath the trees, a challenging run, a peaceful moment of reflection, a conversation with a friend, or even the setting for a first date. Whatever you need, the Katy Trail is there for you.

A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT

As I think about 2025, I am struck by how much Friends of the Katy Trail continues to give back to our community. The Trail is more than a place to walk or ride; it is a thread that connects our neighborhoods, our residents, and our local businesses. It offers a place for physical and mental well-being, framed by natural beauty that our public art along the Trail only enhances. Increasingly, the Katy Trail also serves as an ambassador to visitors, giving them a memorable first impression of our City.

MEMBERS

This past year was a significant one for Friends of the Katy Trail from a funding aspect, as well. We successfully raised funds for two major Bond Capital Campaign projects: the restoration of the Knox to Harvard segment and a new entrance at Fairmount/Maple. Planning and design for this phase funded directly by FKT will begin in Fall 2026. We are proud to have secured this critical early support and look forward to seeing these projects take shape. Throughout the year, we continued to iterate near, mid, and long-term landscaping projects, keeping the Trail looking its best in every season. Katy Trail Art installations also continued to make art approachable, accessible, and outdoors for everyone. None of this happens without the people of Friends of the Katy Trail. I want to thank our Staff for their tireless work for the Trail and their collaboration with our partners at the City, our volunteers, businesses, and Trail users alike, keeping the Trail safe, beautiful, welcoming, and for being such a great team to work alongside. I also want to thank our Board of Directors for their vision, advocacy, and generous investment of time, talent, and treasure to continue to enhance the Trail. As always, thank you for being part of this community. Please get out and enjoy the Katy Trail!

This year, Trail usage continued to climb, and development on and around the Trail reached an all-time high. We enjoyed a record-breaking year for the Katy 5K, with our largest turnout yet, a great reminder of how much this event, and this Trail, means to the community. And we celebrated the 2025 Jubilee History Maker Award that Friends of the Katy Trail received from the Dallas Historical Society, in recognition of this nonprofit’s contributions to Dallas for over 25 years.
