NOTE FROM SELF
As I conclude my portfolio of sketches from my unforgettable study abroad experience in Scandinavia, I find myself deeply transformed by the insights I gained while traveling through the diverse landscapes of Finland, Sweden, and Denmark. This journey has reshaped my understanding of urban transportation and highlighted how thoughtfully designed urban infrastructure can significantly enhance social welfare. I witnessed firsthand how accessible public transit and pedestrian-friendly spaces create healthier, happier communities, and it became clear that the built environment plays a crucial role in fostering connections among residents.
I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity to explore these countries alongside my peers and professors, who provided invaluable perspectives that enriched my experience. The Scandinavian approach to architectural, planning, and social design stands as a powerful role model, demonstrating how innovative practices can lead to vibrant, sustainable cities. My exposure to these different, often better ways of life has sparked a desire to incorporate similar principles into my own work, encouraging a design philosophy that prioritizes community well-being and environmental stewardship.
Sketching throughout this journey has been a joyous way to capture not just the sights, but the essence of what makes these places unique. As I reflect on the old and new styles I encountered across the Nordic countries, I feel inspired to draw from these critical ideas as I move forward in my career. This experience has ignited a passion for creating spaces that promote inclusivity and happiness, and I look forward to returning one day to further immerse myself in this remarkable culture and continue learning from its innovative approaches to urban living.
