Katarzyna Thomas, aka Kas, works as a designer in Basel, Switzerland since 2017, last four-and-a-half years employed at Manor, the biggest Swiss chain of multibrand retail stores with a private fashion and home decoration brand.
Additionally, in 2022 she graduated Fashion Design in Warsaw (she finished studies, which she had put on hold eight years earlier due to maternity).
Her graduation collection was shortlisted in ARTSTHREAD Global Design Graduate Show 2022 in collaboration with GUCCI in Category Fashion/ Textiles/ Accessories, specialism: Textiles Knit/ Weave (she was the only Swiss-based apparel designer shortlisted in 2022).
Her work received a distinction from IADE (Faculty of Design, Technology and Communication in Lisbon) and was published on two pages of GLAMOUR magazine.
In September 2023 she graduated a ten-months long course of 3d Fashion Design, during which she became proficient with two powerful 3d design tools: CLO3D and Blender.
In April 2024 she received a certificate of attendence at a three-month long Art Direction course at UAL.
Her designs are permanently hosted on NOT JUST A LABEL website under Swiss designers category.
Concept of a pattern inspired by plywood vitra sculpture, in a way that it will translate to a DNA of MARNI, which often includes in collection navy and royal blue hues and patterns resembling those from the 60s (moodboard on the right).
I combined my pattern printed on thick waterproof canvas with navy PU and thicker PU with embossing to create this fun, conversational card holder. I created it in CLO3d and rendered with the above result.
Glamour Poland published in November 2022 a two-page article about my graduation collection, which included photos of 4 out of 6 looks (I have taken the photos myself and added the vintage effect & tape in post-production). Publication also included my drawings and an iterview about my life and inspirations.

Dreadlock is my symbol for Jamaica
I am a product of three, or even four very different cultures: Polish citizen with some Tatar (Muslim) roots, who spent good amount of time around Jamaican culture and since six years lives in Switzerland. None of those cultures seems to fully accept people like myself, different, with mixed backgrounds. With my collection I wanted to visually show that harmonious growth of various cultures is possible. Therefore, I have taken one symbol from each of those cultures, that can be represented by a specific technique in weaving. I intend to weave them into organic landscapes of garments.
I knew nothing about weaving, I had never done it, I decided to learn it as I was creating the collection. Except for the dress made of jeans, I was not designing the pieces beforehand/ they were created intuitively as I was weaving.

Fasnacht wig is an important element of Carnival in Basel, Switzerland
Boncuk is an element asymilated in the 17th century by Polish army from Tatar soldiers and still in use by some units in Polish military. It is a pole with circularly arranged horse or yak tail hairs of varying colors arranged at the top.

Chrysalis- entry in 2023 Redress Award Competition (moodboard)
In this pattern I wanted to use elements belonging to typical streetwear/ hip-hop wear, but in an elevated way.
I wanted to create a flower pattern that is commercial and as universal and possible, with the possibility of being adpoted by various brands and adequate for various demographics.
I used techniques in Illustrator that resemble vintage ink hatching in order to create a unique bold yet nostalgic stylized logotype print.
I was hired in 2018 to create three illustrations for an app called BRANDOO owned by Prestige Magazine Schweiz with over 300k users. This app presents launches of new products by luxury brands in many industries- starting from fashion, via premium food and beverages to limited editions of cars or jachts.
