New Century Chamber Orchestra
All of us at New Century hope that this letter finds you healthy and safe. We have missed seeing you in person since our wildly successful “Beethoven in the Presidio” festival last January. During that week of concerts, we broke all of New Century attendance records and presented the largest orchestral works in our history. Thank you for being a part of that thrilling milestone for our orchestra! Since then, we have been exploring new ways to share our music and fellowship with each other and our audiences. Our Music Director Daniel Hope was one of the first classical artists to wholly embrace the digital delivery of his artistry by creating the Arte TV series “Hope@Home.” His programs filmed in his Berlin home have been viewed more that five million times since March, and have now expanded to include European orchestras and ensembles as the EU has slowly opened for live concerts. We look forward to announcing Daniel’s ambitious plans to bring New Century musicians to your home through digital offerings in the fall. We are excited to share our plans for 2021 season when we look forward to returning to the live concert performances in February and April. In addition to our regularly scheduled concerts in 2021, New Century will return to Bing Concert Hall at Stanford University, and the Green Music Center at Sonoma State University, and will make its debut at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills. New Century opens its 2021 season with an evening of Mozart masterworks in honor of the composer’s 265th birthday. Music Director Daniel Hope shares the stage with American violist Paul Neubauer for Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Viola and Orchestra and leads two of the composer’s most revered symphonies, No. 55 in E-flat Major and No. 40 in G minor. New Century returns to Stanford’s Bing Concert Hall for a one-night-only appearance featuring the world premiere of a new work for piano and strings by Academy Awardwinning composer with Ukrainian pianist Alexey Botvinov. Showcasing songs from the Great American Songbook, New Century will also perform a variety of popular classics by George Gershwin and Kurt Weill in two special arrangements for string orchestra.
