September 2026 Ongoing, month-to-month independent contractor agreement Up to 25 hours per month $23.00 per hour (up to $575 per month at 25 hours) Flexible: off-site program/event capture and remote editing, with an inperson KARA check-in approximately every two weeks preferred
The Opportunity KARA is seeking a creative, resourceful Digital Storytelling Creator to turn early-stage ideas into clear, engaging content that helps families, donors, volunteers, partners, and community members understand KARA’s work and impact. This role brings social media, brand stewardship, and storytelling together across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube. The Creator will work closely with KARA staff to identify stories, gather accurate information, develop content, and maintain a consistent, welcoming public presence. Regular communication is expected, with an in-person check-in at KARA approximately every two weeks preferred.
What You’ll Create and Contribute Develop content from initial or “skeleton” ideas, moving concepts through planning, production, review, and publication. • Create platform-appropriate written, graphic, photo, and short-form video content for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube. • Build a balanced content calendar that moves KARA beyond an announcement-only feed and toward repeatable, human stories of impact. • Interview and collaborate with staff, volunteers, partners, and—where appropriate and fully consented— program participants to identify meaningful stories. • Use KARA’s brand guide and style guide to strengthen consistency, recognition, and quality across platforms. • Draft, review, schedule, and monitor content; respond or route questions according to KARA’s engagement and privacy practices. • Track basic performance indicators and use results to improve topics, formats, timing, and calls to action. •
•
Maintain organized content files, captions, approvals, consent records, and reusable assets.
Primary Storytelling Themes Fund development — show the practical difference donations, sponsorships, and partnerships make. Programming — help families discover programs, understand who they are for, and know what to expect. KARA agency and prevention-based advocacy — explain KARA’s role, expertise, approach, and community value in accessible language. • KARA events — build awareness and participation before, during, and after events. • Volunteerism — recognize volunteers, show how they contribute, and invite others to get involved. • • •
What Success Looks Like KARA’s channels feel warm, useful, active, and recognizably consistent. Content increasingly shows people what happens inside KARA—not only what is coming up. Families can quickly understand available supports and how to access them. Donors, partners, volunteers, and community members can see credible evidence of impact and clear ways to help. • Every published story protects privacy, reflects consent, and answers at least one question: How does this help families? Why does this matter? How can the community support? • • • •
Who We’re Looking For A self-starter who takes initiative, manages time well, and follows through. A creative thinker who can bring rough ideas to life while remaining accurate and on brand. Demonstrated experience bringing social media, branding, and storytelling together. Strong writing, editing, visual judgment, and short-form content skills. Familiarity with programming for children, families, and communities, and with the non-profit sector and fund development. • Comfort working collaboratively with staff and receiving feedback within a content-review process. • Sound judgment regarding consent, confidentiality, child and family privacy, accessibility, and inclusive language. • Ability to adapt one story thoughtfully for different audiences and platforms. • • • • •
Working Arrangement and Contractor Expenses This is an independent contractor opportunity beginning September 2026, on an ongoing month-to-month basis. • The maximum commitment is 25 hours per month at $23.00 per hour. Additional hours require KARA’s written approval in advance. • The work arrangement is flexible. Occasional off-site content capture at KARA programs and events and remote editing will be required. An in-person check-in at KARA approximately every two weeks is preferred to support communication and collaboration with staff. • Mileage, cell phone, and laptop/computer costs are the contractor’s responsibility. Any other reimbursable expenses must be approved by KARA in writing in advance. •
Key Agreement Terms Invoices will be submitted monthly. KARA will pay approved invoices within 15 calendar days. The monthly schedule will be agreed in advance. Work beyond 25 hours in a month requires written approval. • Either party may end the agreement with 30 days’ written notice. KARA may terminate immediately for serious confidentiality, privacy, safety, or account-security breaches. • Project copyright will be assigned to KARA, with a moral-rights waiver. KARA-owned accounts and approved storage must be used, with multifactor authentication where available; access will be revoked when the agreement ends. • •
WCB clearance or status will be confirmed before work and payment. Automobile insurance is required when driving is involved; other liability insurance will be required only if recommended by KARA’s insurer. • KARA will complete applicable T4A reporting. GST may be added only if the contractor is registered and provides a valid GST number. •
