KARA Family Resource Centre is inviting community-minded professionals to join our Board of Directors. We are currently seeking individuals with financial and accounting expertise to strengthen our Finance Committee, alongside candidates with experience in human resources and fund development. This is an opportunity to contribute your professional skills in a meaningful way—supporting an organization that is deeply embedded in the community and focused on prevention-based, familycentred impact. In 2025, we redesigned our service delivery model—shifting from a centralized approach to a neighbourhood-based outreach model, now delivering programs across 16 community locations throughout northeast Edmonton. This shift has significantly increased accessibility for families and strengthened our presence in the community.
As we continue to grow, strong governance—particularly in financial stewardship—is critical to ensuring sustainability, accountability, and long-term impact. About KARA Since 1984, KARA Family Resource Centre has supported children and families through prevention-based programs rooted in: • Early childhood development • Parent education • Family wellness • Community connection All programs are provided at no cost to families, reducing barriers and strengthening protective factors.

Who We’re Looking For We are seeking individuals who bring both professional expertise and a commitment to community. Priority Need: Finance & Accounting We are especially interested in candidates with: • Accounting designation (CPA preferred but not required) • Financial oversight, budgeting, and reporting experience • Experience supporting or advising Finance Committees or Boards • Understanding of nonprofit financial governance (asset) Additional Areas of Interest • Legal Expertise o Charity and not-for-profit law, employment law, governance, contract law, compliance, or risk management • Human Resources o Policy, governance, or people strategy experience • Fund Development o Fundraising strategy, donor relations, or community engagement What You’ll Contribute As a Board Member, you will: • Provide strategic oversight and governance, not day-to-day operations • Participate actively on a Board Committee (Finance strongly encouraged) • Contribute to financial stewardship and organizational sustainability • Support fundraising and community engagement efforts • Act as an ambassador for KARA in the community • Help guide strategic priorities aligned with our mission
