Amelia came into the living room where her father was sitting in his favourite chair, reading the paper. “Daddy,” she said, “I’ve been thinking…” Her father sighed. When Amelia had been thinking, it usually meant trouble.
Amelia went on, “couldn’t we have a dog? We could take it for walks in the park and it could sleep in my room and keep the monsters away.”
