SOCIAL HOUSING
In a densely populated urban development that exhibits a multitude of social groups and urban conditions into a vibrant cultural district today. With the constant fluctuation; people moving in and out , as well as the business enterprises. From the neighbourhoods development to Juta Street and intertwining of informal markets and shops around and in-between. Considering the great contribution of these developments to socio-economic issues we face in the country, there are still many unused structures populating the area.
With that in thought we look at one of the buildings, 155 Smit Street. “Once derelict building now converted into modern, up-scaled apartments will face its third round of intervention. Being in on of the city’s social link and neighbouring Juta Street hosting the most innovative set pf programmes which play an integral role in the envisaged intervention or project. The project was aimed at redefining this iconic building into something that will drive the inner-city rejuvenation for years to come. With the existing structure, redevloping it into a social housing component with intcorporating an activated streetscape containing retail and social programmes on ground level.
