LETTER FROM THE DESIGNER As we all begin to step out into the world and enjoy shared experiences once again, my vision for Spring 22 was to design our collection so it would spark a unique sense of enthusiasm for our customers. Spring is the perfect season to break the cycle of dependence on leggings and sweatpants and the Rubyyaya Spring '21 collection certainly offers plenty of alternatives. Our eclectic range of original prints were globally inspired and our mantra for the season was “striking yet timeless”. The collection offers a number of new designs and also our most trusted silhouettes. It was only fitting that this season we include a few fun, printed pieces in tiered maxi skirts, bomber jackets and versatile maxi dresses that will hopefully help our customers celebrate possibilities of a post pandemic life. At Rubyyaya we love casual elegance and our sequin enhanced t-shirts worn with our maxi skirts or linen palazzo Pula pant under our gold lurex embroidered jackets is the thinking shopper’s alternative to athleisure wear. While there is nothing more invigorating than trying out a new silhouette or print, there’s also a case to be made for trusting wardrobe essentials such as our Norma jeans but elevate your look this Spring by wearing our Maxi dresses belted and half open over the jean. Simple yet stunning swimwear pieces have been injected into the resort collection and we are excited to introduce our sand-free towels when the weather warms and once again we can frolic freely.

DESIGNER FOCUS: Suru Studio

What inspired you to create Suru studio?

Jewellery making has always been a part of me. I used to do it back in Argentina. Back then it was more like a hobby I did my wedding ring or would create special pieces for friends. I just loved the process. As Covid hit I realised I missed the craft of jewellery making and the desire to have my own brand grew exponentially. So I decided to find a way I could, with the help of hands around the world, get the engine moving. And so Suru Studio was born.

What have been the biggest learning curves of running your own business? I’m still learning, but so far I believe it has been patience, planning and trusting myself.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I’m mainly driven by nature’s shapes and the richness and kindness of the earth, like gemstones and crystals. I grab elements and turn them into pieces for everyday wear. It's very important for me to create items that are timeless.

How do you look after your jewellery?

Because I work with gold plated brass, it’s very important to protect them from water, perfumes, creams among others. With the 9.25 sterling silver items just polish them with a cotton cloth.

What pieces do you never take off? The Feliz earrings.

We know how much you love fashion, what’s your everyday uniform?

For winter: an oversized grey marle jumper, a t-shirt, black and white tailored baggy pants, coloured socks, black leather Nike shoes and Beanie. For summer: a printed dress, always a cardigan in my purse (cause you know, A/C) and a pair of Mexican Bergen’s sandals. Comfort is crucial for me and i always add a little jewellery.

What do you do to relax?

Read a book and exercise. I’ve been doing 30mins workouts for the past couple of months and realised that even thought it’s an effort I end up being relaxed and with a clear mind.

GLOBETROTTER: Argentina Our beautiful stylist and the founder/ owner of Suru Studio, Eugenia, is from the amazing country that is Argentina. Although we are unable to travel at the moment, one of our bucket list places to visit is Buenos Aires. Eugenia has kindly curated her favourite places to stay, visit and eat in Buenos Aires.

Where to stay?

I think the best way to enjoy Buenos Aires is by staying at an Airbnb in the area of Palermo, is close to everywhere and you can enjoy the beautiful parks like ‘El Rosedal’.

What to do?

There are a few musts when travelling to Buenos Aires. Museums are one of them, my favourite is Malba, there’s always a great exhibition on. Going to the theatre is also a must, that way you get to know Calle Corrientes which is a famous one and after the play you should go grab pizza and fauna (chickpea flatbread) at Güerrin. Barbecue is also a must, Argentina is all about barbecue ‘Don Julio’ is one of the best restaurants to do so. Palermo Soho is a great spot for trendy design and you shouldn’t miss a walk through Alvear Ave and Plaza Francia. Visiting greater Buenos Aires is also great. Peru Beach in San Isidro allows a day visit and is close to the river (rio de la plata).

Where to go?

Day trips are a great way to get to know the city, I would definitely recommend hiring a car for this. Some of my fav close by places are San Antonio de Areco which is a nice colonial town with beautiful roads and you get to see traditional Buenos Aires farms. Tandil is another favourite, I would recommend a weekend getaway so you can enjoy staying in a nice cabin in the hills. Tigre is a whole neighbourhood in the river. I would also turn this into a weekend getaway to enjoy the peace of the islands. There’s a beautiful hotel called La Becasina and the famous beaches of Mar del Plata or Carilo (around 4-5hs from the city). If you wanna travel around Argentina, Patagonia is a must as well as Purmarca where the famous ‘Cerro de los siete colores’ is.

Where to eat?

There are so many amazing food options in Buenos Aires! I love going to Bodegones where you have traditional food and you can breathe true Argentinean style. For higher end restaurnat there’s Tegui, Anafe, Narda Comedor. For a good, traditional Argentinean barbecue I would say Don Julio is a must.
