The Spirit completed its second yeor with five issues under rhe leodership of Suson Zuponcic. Susan, who is probably one of rhe few sophomores in rhe nation to be a newspaper editor, gamed rhe position when Lona Yee resigned to concentrate on academic subjeers. The first issue was rhe Christmas issue, containing poems and stories by many students and a page of Christmas messages.

The second issue come our in February and aos a review of rhe 1979 year. The paper is showing great improvement with each issue and rhe advisor, Mr. Cox, predicts that next year Mingus will hove its first all American newspaper.

Season ploy continued The girls smeared Coconino and rhen come up ogoinsr one of rhe roughesr marches all season Winslow. Mingus hosn'r had a victory over Winslow or Winslow in five years. The Bulldogs won rhe first gome 11-15, bur rhe girls pulled through in rhe second and third gomes ro keep o clean record They then wear on ro ploy marches ogoinsr Globe, Bourgode, and Gilbert, winning them oil and attaining a season record of 16 0 During most of rhe season rhe ream had grown consisrenrly better with their execution, bur maintained a few mental problems. The first problem was getting rhe gome going. Ir seemed rhor they couldn't ger rolling until rhe other ream had scored 4 or 5 points The girls would come back and ger ro gome point when rheir second problem would orise-rhey hod ro ger one more point and couldn't. Towards rhe end of rhe season rhe problems changed The girls would sometimes go into an inactive lapse when they hit eight points These problems didn't show up much in rhe Division Tournament. The girls got it all together when it most counted, downing Bourgode in rhe first march and Gilbert in rhe finals ro win rhe Division Tournament and maintain a perfect record of 18-0.

The next step for Mingus was rhe Store Tournament Defeating Douglas in rhe first round rather easily they went into rhe semis ogoinsr Snowflake who was also on undefeated ream. This march was rhe only one ro go three gomes in rhe whole day Mingus won rhe first gome, Snowflake won rhe second and Mingus pulled our in rhe third ro advance ro rhe finals This is rhe farthest Mingus Volleyball has ever gone. Unfortunately they gave their all ro Snowflake and ler Safford off easy ro win another Store Championship The season seemed shorr, bur a lor of work wenr into producing o ream which brought home three trophies and rhe title of Store Runner-UP
