DEDICATION To Clarkdale High School we, the class of 1951, dedicate the last volume of the Alchemist. "Knowledge has been called the key o 1 liberty. Although the door to liberty cannot be opened with a single key, it certainly cannot be opened without this one. Without knowledge men cannot be free; without knowledge men are incapable of distinguishing friends from enemies; without know ledge men can be lead into slavery shouting the battle cry of freedom; without knowledge men cannot rule themselves; without knowledge men are blind. The long history of mankind shov/s that free men again and again have lost their liberties simply because they did not know the consequences of the choices which they were making or accepting. Democracy, therefore, beyond all other social systems and faiths, must make provision for the enlightenment "of the people. It must do this or perish. We believe that Clarkdale High has played a vital part in the education for freedom. Though it ceases to exist as a separate institution it will not die. The first class graduated from Clarkdale High School in nineteen hundred and seventeen. Since that time a great many changes have taken place. The United States has been involved in two world wars. Airplanes and auto mobiles have become common means of transportation. It is not unusual for a car to travel at the speed of seventy-five or eighty miles per hour, while three hundred miles per hour is average for a plane. During the thirty-four years of its existence Clarkdale High School has maintained always the high standards and ideals on which it was founded. There have been nine hundred and seventy-six students to receive diplomas. These have gone out from their Alma Mater to assume the responsibilities and enjoy the privileges of American citizenship. The benefits of a high school education aTe cf inestimable value, and the teachers to no small degree influence the lives of the students. Ecch one of the one hundred and seventeen teachers who has served in Clarkdale High School has been outstanding in scholarship and professional ability.

The innovation of six-man football was due to the decreased enrollment in Clarkdale High. It proved to be a fast and fascinating game for the fans. Clarkdale did quite well in this new sport scoring a total of 220 points to the opponents 145.

Basketball Clarkdale's team did us proud this year by winning 14 out of 19 games and coming in 4th in the Northern Arizona Interscholastic Tournament at Flagstaff. Here are the boys that made the scores with help from Coach De Vault, and Manager Ray Contreras. ANDY MAYA: Sophomore guard who played good ball this year will be missed next year. ALBERT RODRIQUEZ: A junior guard who showed some good stuff this year. Look for him in action next year. JOE BEROLATTI: Senior forward, Joe was captain of the team. He was a three year letterman, making All Northern, will be missed considerably next year. BILL QUISENBERRY: Junior center. This was Bill's first year. He should see a lot of action next year. DARIO ROSAS: Sophomore center. Dario is a basketball player Clarkdale can be proud of. We'll expect great things from him; next year. ALFREDO VASQUEZ: Sophomore forward. This was Feyo's first year of basketball. With a little more experience we should hear from him in the future. i
MANUEL DOMINGUEZ: Senior guard. This was "Man's" first year out but he always put everything he had into the game. PABLO LEON: Sophomore guard. Pablo was a little late in coming out this year on account of a leg injury. We should see action from him in the future. FRANK MAYA: Sophomore forward. Frank played good ball for Clarkdale this year. He had plenty of fight. We should see plenty from him in the future.
