Dedication In recognition of her twenty-five years of service as a teacher in Clarkdale, the Senior Class of 1946 dedicates this Al chemist to Miss Blanche Rayle. During the years it has been our privilege to have Miss Rayle in Clarkdale, she has been an ad viser, friend and inspiration to all of the students with whom she has come in con tact. In this small way the Senior Class wishes to show its appreciation and the appreciation of many others for her help fulness and friendliness, both in and out J !

Foreword For the first time in five years an Al chemist is brought to you by a graduating class facing the problems of peace and reconstruction rather than of war. These problems of peace give us a challenge as great as the emergencies of war, and we hope the coming years will show that the students of Clarkdale High School have accepted their full share of the task of building a world of brotherhood and a peace with lasting qualities. We hope our annual will reflect the spirit with which we go to face the future. In the true spirit of the old Alchemists, who tried to change base metals into gold, we hope our annual will change through the years into a golden spot in the mem ories of our fellow students. Friday November 30 DEAR DIARY—It was a small—but, oh, very select—crowd we had at the Senior Hop tonight. I'm afraid we frightened some of the customers away when we said "Semi-formal," but I still think it was a good idea. Such loveiy corsages—and I do think the boys have a certain something when they appear complete with coat and tie. ' * * We're all proud of Bea Muretic for winning the grand trip to Chicago to attend the 4-H Convention. She left Monday to be gone for two whole weeks. The trip is an award for a report on six years' 4-H activities. * * * Yesterday Howard Pyle talked to us in assembly about his war experiences in the South Pacific where he has been as a special reporter. He certainly did see things, and told about them in a most interesting way. Friday December 7 DEAR DIARY—We're off to a fine start on basketball. Tonight we beat Chandler 34-22 in our season opener. Mr. Goddard, who is coach there now, talked to us in the pep assembly this afternoon. It was good to see him again but hardly seemed natural to have his team playing against C. H. S. He said his boys were Wolves too—in any sense. * * * Yesterday Mary Mosley and Elvira Carlos left to go to o state-wide Student Body Conference in Superior. * * w Oh, yes, lest I forget—reports came out again last Wednesday. It was good to see the college kids home

* Wednesday and Thursday we arrived at school to find most of the rooms slightly frigid-

trouble v/ith the furnace.

So we all adjourned to the gym where we had volley ball and basketball games,

boxing matches, and a variety of entertainment.

Last Monday the Girls' Lcogue had a Christmas party. * * * Mike Krmpotich was selected to play on the North team in the All-Star North-South game which will be played in Tucson next week.

JEROLD "JERRY" FOSTER Sophomore, End. Jerry didn't see any action this year, but he'll be back fighting for old C. H. S. next year. Better keep that ankle out of the way.

MIKE "SQUARE" KRMPOTICH Senior, Tackle. Mike captained our team through many en counters with our enemies this year. His vicious tackles and blocks led the team down the field to victory and placed him on the first string of the All-Northern squad.

Sofurdoy, Fcbruory 8 DEAR DIARY—The team beat Camp Verde 50 to 25. Phil wos * Miss Last night wc defeoted Willijms 34 to 32. star. Watson had the swell idea of dancing at noon—so we fixed up Room 204 for dancing, but the crowd was too large so now we are dancing in the auditorium of the Intermediate building. Everyone is dancing better and having loads of fun. The rule is "Everybody dance"—just looking on is barred.

Friday, February 15 DEAR DIARY —I'm just home from the wonderful Valentine Dance given by the Sophs. The ouditotium fairly blossomed with hearts—that is, if hearts blossom—and I hear they do. Any way, the decorations took the eye. * ’ * This donee wos given after the basketball game with Jerome. We defeated the Muckers 43 to 26 During the dance a few windows were broken. Otherwise, I think everyone had a swell time.

Saturday, February 16 DEAR DIARY—Our team played in Winslow tonight and wos defeated 42 to 39. I hear the boys had an icy time coming home. That's the last game this season 'except tournament gomes), and I'd say we did very well with fifteen victories out of eighteen games. * * * Last week John Stotts and Jack Roberts took a Pepsi-Cola Exam. They were selected by the Seniors as outstanding students. Pepsi-Cola gives a very nice scholarship award to the two hignest-ronking seniors in the state. We hope our boys "hit the spot."

Saturday, February 23 DEAR DIARY—Yesterday morning the Wolves traveled to Flag staff to ploy in the Northern Basketball Tournament. They played their first game with Jerome Friday morning and de feated them 41 to 25. On Friday night we ployed Camp Verde and won 66 to 8 with Phil high-point man again. iComp Verde just seems to bring out the best in Phil.) But Saturday we were defeated by Kingman in an overtime game 24 to 23. Next the Wolves defeated Round Volley with a score of 43 to 26. Phil shared the honors with Henry in this gome. Then in the last gome in the consolation finals we were beaten by Prescott 31 to 27. * * * Even if we did lose at the tournoment we placed two men on the All-Northern, first team—Rhoe Wease, forward, and Tony Maya, guard. Congratulations, boysl * * * Everyone who attended the tournament had a Huba Hubo limel Right, girls?

DEAR DIARY—Lost night Carlos Esqueda placed second in the Oratorical contest district finals. The subject of his oration was "Racial Discrimination." Carlos won first place in Clarkdale in competition with juniors and seniors in the history ond civics classes. Pat Riley and John Stotts placed second and third here. Carlos received an award from the Arizona Republic, sponsor of the contest. * * * The state basketball tournament was held at Tucson this past week. Mesa was the champ.

Friday, March 15 DEAR DIARY—I just got home from the St. Patrick's dance given by the Freshmen. It was really a wonderful dance. The decorations were super—and sure it was a little bit of old Irelond—and the music heavenly. * ' * This afternoon Mr. Guthrie was honored in assembly. He is leaving dear ole' C. H. S. to go to Flagstaff where he'll check planes in and out instead of us kids. We'll miss him, and wish him happy landings. In ossembly several songs were sung by different students. Then Rhae presented Mr Guthrie with a gift on behalf of the student body. * ' * After the assembly the "high and mighty" Seniors defeated the "iow and weakling" Sophs in a softball gome— score 26 to 7. The Sophs came back and challenged the Seniors to a tiddly-winks tournament.

Sunday, March 17 DEAR DIARY—Bonnie has just been over talking to mo about the badminton tournament in Tempo. She and Dolly Lewis. Jenny Prado and Emma Berolatti went down with Miss Arm strong Friday to represent C. H. S. in an invitational archery and badminton tournament sponsored by Arizona State College at Tempe. Dolly and Bonnie placed third in the doubles com petition, and Jenny and Emma both did well ploying singles. It seems they all had a big time. * * * We've started re hearsals on our senior play, "A Little Honey." Mr. Al Truscott is coaching us as Miss Rayle has been ill this spring. We all appreciate Mr. Truscott's fine spirit in taking over tho play.

DEAR DIARY—An all-school music program was presented by students of C. H. S. at the Clark auditorium tonight. The progrom included a variety of musical selections, both vocal and instrumental, among them all the numbers which will be entered in the Music Festival in Flagstaff next month. We're very proud of our C. H. S. musicians and enjoyed hearing them. * * r Lost Wednesday we had another National Assembly. Bob Wood, a cartoonist, gave a very fine performance. So did Gene Tutt, as a matter of fact That was a fine speech he made.

Friday, April 5 DEAR DIARY—The muscle-men are going social tonight. Tonight's the night of the letfermen's dance ond a big time is anticipated by all. * * * Speaking of muscies, our girls went up to Jerome Monday to play volley ball with the girls there. Jerome won 33 to 29,- next Monday they return the game. (Score: Jerome 49, Clarkdale 48.)
